Evaluator: Joe Drake

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 Round 6
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Thick, stocky build but has longer levers. Sturdy. A little soft on the surface, but plenty of muscle underneath. Short torso; long legs with big, muscled thighs and butt. Maxed out frame that is thick all the way through. Looks like a slugger. Sprained MCL August 2019.

Hit: Tall stance, mostly upright with slight knee bend; slight hip hinge leans upper half toward plate. Lead leg open by a foot length, shoulder-width base; Hands at the eyes, bat at a 45 degree angle over the shoulder with some rock; Torso has moderate coil. Loads with a moderate leg kick that hangs before striding toward the pitcher. Slight additional torso coil. Hands drop to shoulder-height. Swings hard, borderline overswing. Fooled by spin often - swings through it and watches it drop in the zone; opposing teams know it. Flat, but uphill swing path gives some loft. Not very discerning at the plate; aggressive on anything close, expands often on spin and swings at tough pitches when he doesn't need to. Gets a piece of the bat on most pitches in the zone. Chokes up with two strikes. Poor hitter who does his damage on fastballs and mistakes and really struggles with spin and offspeed Grade: 30

Power: Big raw power that comes from strong build and average bat speed. Grades out at plus. The ball just carries off his bat, indicative of backspin. Swings to drive the ball in the air, but goes the other way frequently. Consistently drives the ball over the wall to dead center and in the opposite field alley -- true all fields power. Poor hit tool and pitch selection really hold power back in games. Grade: 45

Field: Calls his own games. Starts in a crouch but drops the left knee during the pitcher's delivery with bases empty; remains in crouch with runners on. Typically receives softly and presents well; frames subtly but well. Turns high fastballs down really well. Receives the ball out in front. Strong enough to hold breakers at the bottom of the zone without much drift. Picks balls in the dirt pretty well. Presents clear target for pitcher. Sways the body to receive closer to the middle of his frame. Stabs occasionally when reaching across his body. Ball can get away from him on the edges of his reach. Quick feet when readying to throw and generally agile behind the plate. Calming presence for the pitcher in meetings. Solid but not spectacular with occasional miscues. Grade: 50

Arm: 2.08, 2.06 pop times. Throws have tail but he appears to compensate for it; Some throws sail high or are in the dirt, others have picture perfect placement. Grade: 50

Run: Lumbers. Not an asset on the basepaths. Can leg out extra bases in the gaps, but not with regularity. Not quite station to station, but close. Grade: 30

Overall: Power bat who has become a solid defender behind the plate. He's not going to win any gold gloves, but the total defensive package is serviceable. The power and defense profile will carry him to the majors, but his inability to make consistent contact will relegate him to a fringy backup role. His approach and major contact issues make him a liability against advanced pitching. Hit tool will drive the playing time with a floor of a AAA emergency catcher and ceiling of a below-average regular.

Jan 2021 Report

Evaluator: Rhys White

Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 211 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Round 5
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Drew is slightly shorter than what you would want as a pitcher but he makes up for that lack of an inch or two with a balanced well filled out frame with a good lower half.

Delivery & Mechanics: There is little wasted movement when Rasmussen pitches. He releases the ball from a high three-quarters armslot. He has a fast and loose arm. His delivery is simple, he lifts his front leg up and drives towards the mound releasing from his high three-quarters slot. The fastball comes out of his hand slightly higher than the slider, curveball, and changeup, which opposing hitters have picked up on in his short major league career and is going to be something he has to work on to be effective at the highest level.

Fastball: Drew Rasmussen can reach 99 with his fastball and sits as low as 96 with it. He gets arm-side movement on his fastball. He uses the fastball in any and all counts. Late in counts he likes to throw the ball up in the zone to get batters to swing and miss. The fastball is most effective when he can spot it up in the zone, and he understands the armside run he generates with the pitch and will try and back-door right-handed hitters with the fastball. Rasmussen lacks command of his fastball, which causes the fastball to play down. Grade: 60

Curveball: He sparingly throws the curveball, using it as a show pitch, trying to catch opposing hitters off-guard when they have keyed in on the fastball or slider. His curveball gets up to 83 mph and has a standard 12-to-6 shape that has posted as high as 2700 rpms. He tends to throw his curveball most frequently to left-handed batters, where he is trying to throw the curveball low and inside. It does an average job of generating swings and misses but it more frequently causes off-balance swings resulting in batters fouling it off or weak contact. Grade: 45

Slider: The slider is a true swing-and-miss offering for Rasmussen. In his brief major-league career he was able to throw the slider as high as 89 mph. It is closer to a slurve than the traditional hard-sweeping slider. It gets good 1-to-7 movement with hard vertical movement. The velocity and movement profile of the slider allows him to throw the curveball and sequence with the slider and curveball. He generates swings and misses with the slider, but one thing to note is he does release it slightly lower than the fastball and hitters did start to key in on that in the major leagues. Grade: 60

Changeup: He lacks feel for the changeup, you might be wowed that he can throw his changeup as high as 91 mph but as we know changeup velocity is rather useless, the most important thing with a changeup is the feel, the arm-speed at which the pitcher throws it, the velocity separation that the pitcher has between the fastball and changeup, the raw velocity of a changeup is useless. Rasmussen overthrows the changeup, lacks feel for the offering, gets below-average separation, and it lacks tumble and fade. Going forward I believe if he is to stay in a relief role he should abandon the changeup. Grade: 30

Control and Command: He tends to be erratic, he has well-below average command and below average control. Oftentimes the catcher sets up for a pitch on one side of the strike-zone and Rasmussen will throw the ball to the opposite side, causing the catcher to have to make a quick play to avoid a wild pitch. Up in the zone the fastball gets erratic, as he can have a propensity to overthrow any of his offerings. Control: 40 | Command: 30

Overall: Drew Rasmussen has already made the major leagues in 2020. He showed a high-octane fastball to go along with a plus slider. He profiles best as a reliever because of his underwhelming command and control. He needs to see the command and control of his pitches take a step forward for him to be a more consistent reliever. He will also need to get the release point of the fastball and slider to be consistently the same to avoid hitters being able to guess which pitch is coming.

Jan 2021 Report

Evaluator: Rhys White

Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 210 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2016 Round2
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Tall and well filled out at 6'3" and 210 pounds. He has a prototypical frame for a corner infielder, strong and broad-shouldered.

Hit: Erceg stands straight up with his hands at his head, with the majority of the bat above his head. When the pitcher starts his motion he squats down, and raises his front foot and brings his hands towards the ball. He has an upper-cut swing path and because it is so drastic I have noticed that pitchers will throw pitches up in the zone to exploit his swing. He has an average understanding of the strike-zone. I do worry that along with the bat-path he will swing and miss more at the highest level because of his lack of bat-speed, and opposing pitchers can attack up in the zone with premium velocity. Grade: 30

Power: Erceg pairs his upper-cut swing with a quick bat and above average raw strength. He hits most of his homers to his pull-side where he easily gets to his above average power. He has the pull-side power to hit it out of any ball-park, he has not to this point translated that power to opposite-field power yet. Grade: 55

Field: Lucas Erceg has split his time between third and first base but I believe he profiles best as a first-baseman. He lacks the lateral agility one would want for a defender at the hot corner, and routinely would get eaten up by hard ground balls hit to him as a third-baseman. At first his lack of lateral agility isn't as prevalent and he showed a good ability to scoop the ball out of the dirt and set an easy target for his fellow infielders. As a third-baseman he's a below average defender where at first, where I would ultimately play him, he can be an average defender. Grade: 45

Arm: What has kept Erceg at third is his plus arm, It has good carry and he is very accurate with his arm. He has the arm-strength to play in a corner outfield spot if needed. Grade: 60

Run: Lucas Erceg will never be a stolen-base threat. He has a clunky stride, and he doesn't have a great first-step which limits him as a base-runner. Grade: 40

Overall: A once popular prospect has seen his stock tumble because of his inconsistent ability to hit. Erceg is going to have to hit for power to carve out any sort of role as a big leaguer. More advanced pitchers have carved him up in the upper minors by attacking him with premium fastballs up in the zone. The arm is the only other tool that is above average. I have questions about his future, and even with the weird 2020 season the Brewers did invite Erceg at the alternate-site and they are an organization that is rather thin with upper level hitters so it was a clear sign what the organization thinks of Erceg.

Age: 23 yr
Height: 5-10
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 8
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Wiry and athletic frame. Fairly ordinary muscular build with long arms and legs. Good strength for his compact size. Incorporates lower half into his swing. Near full maturity, little room for development.

Hit: Closed and compact left-handed stance. Hands stay slightly above the letters. Feet stay shoulder width apart in the box. Added a more prevalent right leg kick within his load. Has a tendency to stay on his back foot. Makes adequate contact to the opposite field. Solid approach, takes pitches the other way. Lacks consistent hard contact, soft grounders sneak through the infield. Needs to adjust to big league pitching. Grade: 45

Power: Struggles to tap into much in-game power. Occasionally hits hard-hit balls to the outfield. Has more of a contact-oriented approach. Lacks ability to consistently drive the ball for extra bases. Doesn't get the ball in the air. Grade: 30

Field: Shows the defensive ability to potentially stick at shortstop or second base long term. Crisp movements and instincts, always on his toes. Makes up solid ground and has good timing where to play the ball. Gets the ball out quickly on double plays. Solid traits as a defender. Grade: 50

Arm: Fringe-average arm from the infield. Throws have good accuracy, but lack the needed velocity from shortstop. Needs to improve his arm strength for more consistent throws from the infield. Grade: 45

Run: Flashes plus-speed and athleticism. Has immediate burst out of the box, with quick strides and good acceleration. Reaches first to third in a hurry. Speed and hustle stretches for extra bases. Makes the most of his athletic traits as an aggressive base stealer and runner. Grade: 60

Overall: A torn achilles hurt Hamilton's draft stock in 2019 out of Texas, but his athleticism and defensive tools speak for themselves. His hit tool and power limit his offensive ceiling, but he's showcased the ability to potentially stay on the dirt long term.

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 230 lbs
Hits/Throws: S/R
Acquired: 2019 Round<a0>5
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Listed at 6'0, 230. Round build; no prototypical physical projection but potential for reverse projection and reshaped physique with pro conditioning program. Well below-average athlete.

Hit: Switch-hitter. Wide base with closed stance and quiet setup from both sides of plate. Toe tap. Doesn't really engage lower half in swing but generates easy plus bat speed and whip with hands. Short swing but below-average bat control from both sides of plate; fouls off or swings through too many hittable fastballs in the strike zone for a bat-first player. Swing path is pretty flat as RHH but a little more uphill as LHH. Patient approach. Grade: 40

Power: Has plus raw power from both sides of the plate driven by raw strength and hand speed. Game power plays a tick below that because mediocre bat control causes him to miss some pitches he should drive. Grade: 55

Field: Split time in college between catcher/left field. Lack of athleticism limits him to first base and designated hitter as he progresses through the pro ranks. Grade: 40

Arm: Average arm strength is functional if he plays first base and left field. Not particularly important at DH. Grade: 50

Run: Doesn't move all that well. Clocked home-to-first times in the 4.6-4.7 range as a right-handed hitter, on par with players like Garrett Cooper and Yan Gomes. Grade: 30

Overall: Dillard has patience and plus raw power from both sides of the plate, but the secondary skills are lacking. He's at the bottom of the defensive spectrum already, probably best suited for DH. He needs to be a special offensive player to compensate, but Dillard's below-average bat control causes him to miss too many pitches he should drive.

Evaluator: Justin Lada

Age: 18 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 168 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2019 IFA
RuleV: 2024

Physical Description: Tall, lanky build. Very projectable frame. Already appears to have a strong base and forearms.

Hit: Hits from an even stance with a wide base. Moderately active hands into pre-load to bring barrel slightly vertical. Wait high leg kick into his load but doesn't over stride. Keeps front shoulder and front side closed with good separation from his hips and hands. Bat path is direct into the zone. Fluid swing and generates above average bat speed. Quick hands. Grade: 40

Power: Above average bat speed, loose, fluid swing and projectable frame should allow him to carry above average raw power. Bat path comes in flat so an adjustment may be needed to create more loft in his swing to get to above average power in games. Posts strong exit velos (90.5 average/104.5 max). Grade: 55

Field: No initial looks in the field. Given projection in frame, most think it's likely he grows into a corner outfield spot as a fielder. Grade: 45

Arm: Long arm action but stays behind the ball on throws. Does not get exceptionally strong carry on throws. May gain a tick with added a strength as he matures physically. Grade: 50

Run: No initial looks running but like the fielding projection, his long legs and frame give him the appearance that he will be an average runner, but may lose a tick as he fills out. Grade: 45

Overall: Medina's tools give him the profile of a bat-first corner outfield with above average raw power. His projectable frame combined with raw set of tools make him a prospect that could flash star abilities in several areas of his game, though this profile has a long, high risk developmental path. His tools and projection give him an all-star ceiling but a flameout floor.

Age: 23 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 210 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 4
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Very stocky frame with limited projection remaining. Shows present strength throughout his frame, with a well defined lower half.

Hit: Right handed hitter who will operate out of an open stance with a shoulder width base. Hands sit at his ears with his elbow high. Bat speed is average but will take a short path to the ball with impressive contact rates. Bat path will get into impressive vertical bat angles and finishes. Shows ability to recognize breaking balls and high fastballs, but has small trouble with upper velocity. Very good BB/K% throughout his college and early pro career Grade: 50

Power: Primarily gap-gap power with ability to get lift into balls pull side . Bat path and natural raw strength would be conducive to slightly more pop as he develops, but his overall line drive approach caps the overall ceiling. Grade: 45

Field: Limited flexibility moving east to west, but shows athleticism getting out of the crouch and blocking the plate. Pop times in the 1.92-2.05 range. Has earned rave reviews for his game calling ability Grade: 45

Arm: Very accurate on throws with impressive carry. Will use a short arm path and gets his weight behind his throws. Impressive caught stealing numbers Grade: 50

Run: Below average runner. Will take short, choppy steps and does not reach top speed till very late in his stride Grade: 35

Overall: Kahle shows the ability to hit for a solid enough average and playable power, combined with a relentless work ethic behind the plate. Gives you a very solid floor as a platoon catcher. If he improves his receiving, then possibly a starter role is in his future.

RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Athletic build. Well proportioned. Strong legs. Future strength gains minimal.

Delivery & Mechanics: Throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Starts with his glove near his bottom of his stomach, raises his right leg right above his belt and plants it forward as he strides to the plate. Long arm action. Repeatability in his delivery. Works quickly.

Fastball: Sits 88-93. Throws downhill with arm-side run. Effective inside. Pitches to both sides of the plate. Has some deception. National tail and sink. Grade: 45

Curveball: Sits 77-80. Good 11-5 action. Tight rotation with depth and late break. Good velocity separation from fastball. Command's it well. Grade: 50

Slider: Rolls more like a slurve. Could use more depth to the pitch. Grade: 40

Changeup: More of a get me over pitch. Effective when down. Can spot inside on lefties. Maintains arm speed. Does not use the pitch as much as breaking pitches. Grade: 40

Control and Command: File has the best command in the Brewers system, allowing the fewest walks in 2019. All of his pitches come out the same tunnel padding deception. Overall there's plus control and above-average command on all four of his pitches. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: File will not overpower hitters on the mound however, his repeatability of his four pitch mix will allow him to get through a lineup once or twice. His ceiling is a back-end starter because his curve is average and the command of his fastball will help keep hitters honest. He changed his windup from Low-A to High-A.

Evaluator: Anthony Franco

Age: 24 yr
Height: 5-6
Weight: 160 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2018 Round 17
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Listed at 5'6, 160. Andrews is as small as any player in professional baseball. Short with a really narrow frame. No physical projection.

Delivery & Mechanics: Has an exaggerated lean on his drive leg, but maintains impeccable balance throughout his delivery. Stays online to the plate and repeats his delivery and arm slot consistently. Low 3/4 slot. Plus-plus on-mound athlete.

Fastball: Flat, 87-90 MPH fastball. Occasional cut when located glove-side but it doesn't have the velocity or life to miss bats or barrels. Grade: 40

Slider: Mid-70's breaking ball. Has slurvy action but flashes bat-missing depth at times. Grade: 50

Changeup: Leans on changeup heavily. Mid-70's offering with consistently plus sink and some arm-side fade. Mimics fastball arm speed and gets whiffs from opposing right-handed hitters. Grade: 55

Control and Command: Throws all three pitches for strikes. Works to both sides of the plate. Lack of velocity and fastball life keeps him from being able to go up in the zone. Control: 60 | Command: 50

Overall: Andrews is an interesting gadget prospect who tests the lower bound for reliever velocity. His high-80's fastball lacks life and gets knocked around when he uses it in the strike zone. Andrews mitigates that by leaning heavily on his secondaries (especially his plus change) and working east-west, which his elite athleticism allows. A two-way player in college, Andrews still occasionally gets an opportunity to hit in pro ball. His minimalist offensive approach allows him to make a ton of soft, ground-ball contact but without a modicum of impact. A plus-plus runner, Andrews might sometimes serve as a late game defensive replacement in the outfield, but his primary role is on the mound. He could have a niche as a lefty bullpen complement to a series of high-powered arms.

Hit: Long and open right-handed hit tool. Hands stay just below the letters with noticeable rhythm and sway. Feet stay and lower half stay wide to the plate, open and exposed. Heavy left leg kick. Aggressive approach and heavy swing. Reliant on his back foot. Needs to improve plate discipline and mechanics. Closing his stance could benefit his future hit tool. Grade: 40

Power: Projectible pull-side power from the right side. Physical strength produces hard exit velocities. Gets good leverage and bat speed. Added strength will give his power a boost. Shows promising in-game power as he matures physically. Grade: 50

Field: Fringe-average fielder with an iffy defensive fit. Bounced between second and third. Size and lack of athleticism projects to third base. Struggles covering ground consistently. Lacks awareness on routine plays. Can improve defensively once he sticks to a position. Grade: 45

Arm: Above-average arm strength highlights his defensive skill set. Quick glove-to-hand transfers. Throws come out quick with good velocity. Arm strength truly shines at third base, makes difficult throws from awkward angles. Grade: 55

Run: Below-average speed and athleticism. Lack of athletic traits hinders his defensive potential. Lacks burst and acceleration to reach top-end speed. Long and slow strides coming out of the box. Grade: 35

Overall: Parra possesses tantalizing size and power for a teenage prospect, but improvements in his mechanics and approach will help his offensive profile. His lack of speed puts a cap on his defensive fit, but his strong arm suits him well at third base. Evaluator: Joe Doyle

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 220 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2020 Round 4
RuleV: 2024

Physical Description: One of the most physically imposing athletes in the 2020 MLB Draft. Tall, strong, wide-shoulders outfielder with immense strength that comes from a lean, muscular frame. Long levers and explosive movements on the field. So much so that he can get a little outside of himself at times.

Hit: There's a lot of moving parts in Wiemer's swing. Plenty of bat waggle pre-load and an exorbitant leg kick have gotten in the way of consistent contact. Despite the long, anxious swing mechanics, Wiemer draws his walks and isn't overly aggressive at the plate. He hunts fastballs and absolutely punishes mistakes. It's a line drive swing right now that lacks consistent barrels, but when he connects, it's loud. Grade: 40

Power: One of his potential calling cards. It's 70 raw, but only 50 game right now. The moving parts and inconsistent swing plane have made lifting and launching difficult. Wiemer produces outlanding exit velos, something his organization will try to harness more consistently. If he learns to lift the ball and drive the ball with more regularity, the sky is the limit in terms of natural impact ability. Grade: 50

Field: Despite the big body, Wiemer is a supreme athlete and can handle any outfield position. The arm and lack of natural routes to the ball suggest he fits best in a corner where he's a half grade better than average. Grade: 55

Arm: His second carrying tool. Absolute howitzer in either corner. Best outfield arm in the 2020 class. Already one of the best outfield arms in minor league baseball. Was up to 98 on the mound at the University of Cincinnati. Smooth, fluid arm action plus natural athleticism suggests the tool should age well so long as durability holds. Grade: 70

Run: Very good runner. Long strides and body doesn't lumber. The physique for a guy his size will need to be tracked as he ages, but early in his career, could be an asset on the basepaths, certainly in the field. Grade: 60

Overall: Wiemer is about as raw as they come. The clay to mold here is substantial, and the raw tools are considerable. If his organization can tap into even a fringy hit tool, the game power should come where he has a chance to become a 20-20 player with semi-regular playing time. If the swing plane adjustment doesn't take, he could wind up a career minor leaguer.

Physical Description: Strong, lean, and athletic build with wide shoulders and long limbs. Looks taller than listed 6'1. Frame is close to maxed out, but has a little projection left. Muscular thighs and butt, wide back, square shoulders. High waist. Built like a wide receiver. Severe hamstring strain in 2019.

Hit: Upright stance with a shoulder-width base, open by a half step. Hands are head-high at the back shoulder with a moderate circling motion before coming to a stop. Bat angled at 45 degrees over the shoulder. Torso slightly coiled. Loads with a low leg kick that hangs and steps at the pitcher. Hands drop down and back, chest high. Swings hard; downward bat path. Aggressive at the plate; attacks the first pitch frequently, swings at most pitches in the zone. Frequent swing and miss, fails to square up pitches regularly. Fair knowledge of zone; frequent check swings. Works a surprising amount of walks given his aggressiveness. Can battle with two strikes, but typically ends up putting the ball in play. Currently well below-average, but has feel for the strike zone and good swing that should allow him to find more success if he can refine his approach. Grade: 40

Power: Live body and strength give him a chance to get to plus raw power. Likely above-average at present, but he struggles to utilize it in games. Contact issues and poor pitch selection keep him from squaring up and driving the ball. When he does connect, the ball really jumps off his bat. Legs will help him stretch for extra bases here and there. Hit tool development will drive the outcome. Grade: 50

Field: Good reads and instincts give him solid range that might allow him to stick in center if he doesn't outgrow his speed. Occasional miscues. Routes get adventurous at times, but is always able to recover and make the play. Has a better chance to stick in center than you might guess at first glance, but will need to maintain his above-average speed and improve routes. Otherwise, he's an above-average RF. Grade: 50

Arm: Solid carry from center to cutoffs. Very little if any tail. Gets into position to throw when he's able, gets his body into the throw. Enough arm for anywhere in the outfield. Grade: 55

Run: Good runner; long strides cover a lot of ground. Needs a couple steps to get up to speed. Aggressive on the basepaths; will reach for an extra base any time he sees an opening -- stole home on a pickoff to first. May lose a step depending on how much he fills out in his 20s. Grade: 55

Overall: Potential center fielder with big pop. Gray has the look of a classic high-risk, high-reward, athletic prep hitter who struggles with good pitching early in his career. He could even stick in center if he doesn't fill out much more. The ceiling is tantalizing as a power-hitting CF who anchors a lineup, but the floor is just as low as a big RF who whiffs too often and ends up as org depth. His solid defensive skills will help balance his profile a bit and should help him stick in the majors in a bench role.

Age: 20 yr
Height: 5-10
Weight: 150 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Wiry and athletic frame with short arms and legs. More room for physical growth, development for his age. Needs to add more size and strength to help his offensive profile.

Hit: Compact left-handed stance. Elbows and knees stay close together. Hands remain just above the letters. Subtle right leg kick within his load. Short and quick bat speed makes contact to all fields. Slashes line drives to the opposite field. Shortens his swing, dips his back shoulder at times. Patient approach leads to hitter-friendly counts, but lacks consistent hard contact. Showed growth in approach and improvement. Grade: 45

Power: Lacks power from the left side. Flat, contact-driven swing struggles to get the ball in the air. Makes the majority of hard contact pull-side. Struggles to tap into in-game power. Power can improve as he physically matures and strength. Grade: 20

Field: Above-average defender with solid instincts and range. Covers a good amount of ground with his speed and gets a good jump on the ball. Plays the ball well in the air, makes adjustments on the fly. Speed and versatility projects well to center field at the next level. Grade: 55

Arm: Average arm strength with accurate throws from the outfield. Throws lack velocity, but remain on target. Makes the necessary throws from center field. Improved arm strength can help improve his defensive profile. Grade: 50

Run: Flashes above-average speed across the board. Short strides, immediate bursts of quickness out of the box. Shows good hustle and speed for extra bases. Lacks elite top-end speed. Athletic traits have yet to translate to stolen bases. Grade: 55

Overall: Rodriguez has the athleticism and defensive skills to stick in center field, but his offensive profile leaves a bit to be desired. Concerns remain over his inability to make consistent hard contact, and he hasn't tapped into projectible raw power. If Rodriguez ascends up Milwaukee's minor league system, he must grow into his frame and show more offensive prowess.

Evaluator: Justin Lada

Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 199 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 Round 5
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Average build. On the smaller side of a frame for an MLB starter, but has enough athleticism to profile as one. Athletic, gets off the mound and fields his position well.

Delivery & Mechanics: Utilized over the head full wind up from third base side. Drives well into back leg. Gets good extension with lead leg and shows good toe drag, staying over the rubber long with his drive leg. Uses spinal tilt to generate energy upwards and create a high 3/4 arm slot. Head whack present during deceleration and has a high effort delivery. Naturally above average arm speed.

Fastball: 89-92 t94. Shows good armside run but will flatten out at times. Works east to west very well. Low spin dictates better usage in and off the plate rather than north and south. Works in well to right handers. Average command. Very hittable pitch if left in hitting zone. Not enough active spin or velocity to avoid mistakes over the plate. Grade: 45

Curveball: 81-83 with vertical drop, power movement. Good depth and sharp, late break. Throws it for easy strikes over the plate and down in the zones, getting hitters to chase. Hard for hitters to square up due to late, sharp break and depth. Grade: 55

Changeup: 85-87. Shows promise with fade and armside run. Inconsistent vertical movement. Below average command but can get hitters to chase with deception and good arm speed to sell the pitch. Low usage third offering that should keep left handers honest. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Generally fills up the strike zone or doesn't miss by much. Will miss arm side with the fastball with too much run at times. Struggles to hit his target up and down, but locates better east-west. Fringe-average control despite efforted delivery and headwhack with below average command. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Brown has more consistently sat 91-94 with his fastball in the past but his stuff and command were off in 2019. He needs the fastball velocity and command of its sinking action to make it playable. His curveball still flashes plus at times and is an effective swing and miss pitch. He has enough movement on his changeup at times to get left handers out with it. The effort in his delivery and headwhack suggest it will be hard to get the consistent command to be a starter long term, but historically has thrown enough strikes anyway. He has the athleticism and enough frame on the low end to start, but his fastball could see a tick up as a reliever and he could rely heavier on the curveball in a multi-inning relief role to be an effective reliever.

Evaluator: Joe Drake

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Round 11
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Ideal frame at 6'3, 185 pounds. Broad shoulders, long limbs, has some muscle but plenty of room for good weight. Wiry, borderline lanky. Athletic; can field his position and make plays around the mound. Baby-faced.

Delivery & Mechanics: Moderately-high effort delivery with over the top arm slot. Leg lift peaks at letters and pauses for a moment before moving toward the plate. Big time extension; gets terrific separation at foot plant; Arm might be a touch early; good scap retraction. Arm action is short; straight back and over the top. Lacks arm speed. Abbreviated leg kick from stretch, moves quicker through delivery; mixes in a slide step. Quick pick move.

Fastball: 85-89; Over the top release gives it good ride and with his great extension creates a very flat approach angle. Works up with it often and hitters swing through it. Great example of the modern optimized fastball minus the velo. Loses a tick from the stretch. Velocity wanes later in the start, sitting 86. Gets hit hard when left down in the zone, runs into barrels. Lack of velocity may limit its effectiveness against upper level hitters. Grade: 45

Curveball: 72-76; Steep vertical break from over the top slot; good depth; tunnels with the fastball, hitters struggle to recognize it, swing through it often. Humps out of his hand when he doesn't have feel for it and those break real softly with only moderate depth. Gets blistered when that happens. Falls off the table when it's on. Can freeze guys with it in the zone or get them to chase when he buries it. Solid command, appears to drop it he wants most times, but will leave it up a little more often than he should. Break may not be sharp enough to beat upper level hitters. Grade: 45

Changeup: 79-83; Used sparingly, clear 3rd pitch. Good separation from fastball; tunnels well. Will leave it up. Gets hitters to pop it up, suggesting it has more lift than you'd expect from a change; other times it appears to get good sink. Not much fade to it; straight change. Not a swing and miss pitch. Seems to lack feel. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Pounds the zone, constantly working edges. Loses a fastball here and there, but not frequently. Seems to have feel for each pitch in most outings. Keeps hitters on their toes because he's so consistently on the edges but knows when and where to get away from the zone for chases. Key to his effectiveness. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: Soft-tossing, pitchability righty who lives and dies with command. Dominated the Midwest League in 2019; Lazar's stuff plays when it's located well (which is often) but is hammered when it's not given the lack of velocity - doesn't have the stuff to consistently put away good hitters. There's a chance he adds a tick or two as he fills out his frame, but it would still leave him below average at the MLB level; he would need a significant bump to change his stars. There's a chance he could find a way to stick as a back-end starter - he has a real knack for missing bats - but it's more likely his subpar velocity is less effective against good hitters and relegates him to a long-relief/multi-inning role.

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-6
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2019 Round 2
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Tall, athletic build. Frame to add good weight and strength. Already has begun to fill some of that frame out. Long legs, high waist. Good wingspan.

Delivery & Mechanics: Works from third base side of the rubber. Balanced, mid section knee kick. Works front hip to stay back, showing back to the hitter. Gets into drive leg well. Long arm action. Strides closed and fires across his body from a 3/4 arm slot. Easy, smooth arm speed. Will use both a slide step and leg kick from the stretch. TIilts front hip up occasionally a little like Aroldis Chapman, which he used as a prep athlete but has opted more for a hip turn as a pro. Crossbody delivery makes it hard for him to repeat delivery and consistently get square. Gets good extension with long legs and stride.

Fastball: 90-95 t97. Ball jumps out of his hand. Closed stride sometimes cuts off his velocity. Features occasional arm side run. Extension and wingspan can help it play up. Average spin. Gets good angles and plane on the heater. Gets swing and misses in the zone. Below average command. Potential for triple digit velocity with added strength and consistent mechanics. Unsure how velocity will hold up over longer outings without seeing more than 60 pitches. Grade: 60

Slider: 83-84. Lacks consistent shape. Shows 2-9 break at times and acts more like a crude cutter at others. Below average command. Has the arm slot and delivery type to unlock an above average offering with more consistent shape. Grade: 45

Changeup: 85-88. Occasionally shows deep vertical break like a splitter. Will also show arm side run. Shows good arm speed to sell the pitch. Needs consistent shape. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Lacks present command of any of his three offerings. Can get away with missing with his velocity. Cross body delivery and inconsistent mechanics give him reliever command at best right now. Athleticism is there to improve on mechanics and consistency to lead to average command. Control: 40 | Command: 30

Overall: Kelly has excellent, easy arm speed and velocity. He has a projectable, athletic starters frame. The crossbody motion and mechanical inconsistencies have him tracking more as a reliever currently with his control. There's reasonable hope for triple-digit velocity with added strength to his frame and more consistent mechanics. He tracks more as a reliever due to having two below average pitches right now and needs to develop one of pair with his fastball to excel as a reliever. He'll need to improve to at least fringe average command and an average secondary to fill a relief role.

Evaluator: Rhys White

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 210 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 CBA
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Well filled out kid with good muscle. Athletic frame, good height built like a receiver.

Hit: Pre-pitch he has a slight bend at his knee and has a hunch to his back. Lutz has a small toe tap that he uses to start his swing. When he swings he takes a quick stride towards the mound and looks to hammer baseballs. He is looking to hit balls in the air where he hopes to hit the long ball thanks to the noticeable upper-cut in his swing path. Lutz is very aggressive at the plate looking to take hacks early and often, which when he makes contact is helpful but he is often late resulting in swings and misses or weak contact. He does have a problem against right-handed pitchers as he tends to struggle seeing spin out of the hand, making me wonder if he is a potential platoon bat going forward. He is much better against lefties and really benefits from that extra time that a right-handed hitter gets against left-handed pitchers. Grade: 45

Power: Lutz has plus power, he can take the ball out of any ballpark he plays in. He has above-average bat-speed to go along with tremendous raw strength and the loft he generates. He hits the ball hard and has posted exit velocities as high as 114mph in his professional career, but something to take note of is his exit velocities have been slightly dipping over the years. Most of his power goes towards the pull-side but he does have the power to go to the deepest part of any ballpark and hit it out. Grade: 60

Field: Tristen Lutz has split his time in the minors between center field and right field but he profiles best in a corner. He struggles in center because of his lack of lateral agility and he takes sub-optimal routes to the ball, when he is in centerfield. In a corner his lack of lateral agility and poor routes to the ball will be covered up. Grade: 45

Arm: Tristen Lutz arm is strong with good carry and he is accurate with his throws. His arm profiles anywhere in the outfield but profiles best in right-field. Grade: 60

Run: Lutz is an average runner under-way with an average length stride. He isn't going to be a stolen base threat because of his below-average jumps. He isn't an explosive athlete which causes his first step to be below-average hurting his overall run grade. As he has filled out his foot-speed has declined. Grade: 45

Overall: Lutz has everything you want out of a corner outfielder. He has plus power and a plus arm. I do have concerns about his ability to hit right-handed pitchers which may push him towards being a platoon bat. He struggles to pick up pitches against right-handed pitchers and if he can improve upon that there is a chance he could be a low end regular.

Evaluator: Anthony Franco

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: S/R
Acquired: 2020 Round 3
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Listed at 6'0, 190. Medium build. Muscular arms and shoulders. Narrow frame, particularly in hips, caps potential physical projection.

Hit: Upright, slightly open stance with hands behind head. Small leg kick as timing mechanism. Pretty fluid weight transfer as left-handed hitter; a little stiffer and forced from the right side. Above-average bat speed as LHH; average bat speed as RHH. Current bat path is suboptimal; chops downhill and limits the amount of time his bat is on plane and in the hitting zone. Has good, strong hands through contact when he finds the barrel. Average bat control as LHH, fringe as RHH. Patient approach with discerning strike zone feel from both sides. Might be some swing-and-miss in his game but picks good pitches and peppers the gaps with solid contact, so he should compensate with high BABIPs. Grade: 50

Power: Fringe-average raw power. Bat path issues prevent him from lifting the ball and check current in-game power, but there's some potential for growth with a swing adjustment. Grade: 40

Field: Warren showed average infield actions at third base on the Cape in 2019. Converted to catcher his junior season at CMU but didn't get much in-game experience because of the COVID-19 shutdown. Will be interesting to see his development behind the plate (Milwaukee announced him as a catcher on draft day) but has floor of average defense at third in his back pocket. Grade: 50

Arm: Above-average arm strength was sufficient to make necessary plays at third and should be fine behind the plate. Grade: 55

Run: Below-average to fringe-average home-to-first times in summer ball. Grade: 45

Overall: Warren's a really interesting third-round flier. It's a collection of generally average physical tools but he has a track record of performance. Warren was one of the most productive players in the MAC during his time at Central Michigan and, more importantly for his pro evaluation, showed well on the Cape the summer before his draft year. He's got interesting offensive traits, particularly as a left-handed hitter- bat speed, strike zone feel, bat control- and a bat path adjustment could help him get to some in-game power. If a mechanical tweak enables him to hit for a little more power or if he proves to be a viable defensive catcher, he's a quality MLB role player. If both those things click, he's an above-average everyday player.

Jan 2021 Report

Evaluator: Russ Peters

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Stocky and thick, specifically in the bottom half. Definitely closer to 210 lbs. than the 185 he is listed at. Slightly low waisted. Solid pitcher's build.

Delivery & Mechanics: 3/4 arm slot, works fairly quickly. Uses a pretty low effort and repeatable delivery with good balance. Hides the ball well to create some deception during wind up and delivery.

Fastball: Pitch was average when it was working 91-94 with armside run. Reports from instructs have Castaneda pumping 95-96. If the velo sticks this can be a plus pitch. The fastball, when combined with the splitter discussed below, has a history of keeping hitters off balance. Added velocity will make splitter/fastball combo even more devastating. Grade: 55

Curveball: Thrown at 77-79. Used mostly as a get me over or show me pitch, sometimes for strike one. Appears that hitters have an easy time spotting the spin out of his hand and either lay off or square it up. Often flat with little break and more of a slider shape with a bit more velocity (low 80's). Neither of these pitches are above fringe level at this point. Will need an improvement in breaking pitches in order to have a chance at a spot in the rotation. Grade: 45

Splitter: Castaneda's nastiest pitch. Drops off the table when it gets to the plate. Used as a put away pitch but he is not afraid to throw it in just about any count. Actually controls splitter better than fastball. Delivery is very similar to the fastball which keeps hitters guessing, especially with the added velo noted above. This pitch could already give Major League hitters trouble. Grade: 60

Control and Command: Command has been an issue in the past. It appears that progress has been made in this area when looking at appearances from the 2019 Arizona Fall League and hearing reports from the 2020 fall instructional league. If this continues Castaneda will be working with average control and fringe average command. Control: 50 | Command: 45

Overall: Assuming the added velo and command were not an aberration, Castaneda has made significant progress towards making the big leagues sometime during the 2021 season where he profiles best as a power arm out of the bullpen who can pile up the strike outs. Used as a reliever and closer during the 2019 regular season and as a starter in the Arizona Fall League. Becoming a successful back of the rotation starter is not out of the question. If he proves himself out of the pen when he is called up, however, there is a good chance he is destined for late inning work in close games. 2021 is a big year where Castaneda can prove that these improvements are legit and sustainable.

Physical Description: Small and wiry frame with solid physical traits. Strong and compact upper half, filled out size. Sound lower half with strong legs. Has reached full maturity in physical development.

Hit: Violent left-handed swing with several moving parts. Hands drift apart, rock back-and-forth and remain well above the letters. Lower half stays hips apart, close and compact. Swing needs tinkering. Upper and lower fail to connect at times. Head pulls up at contact. Makes the majority of his contact pull-side to left field. Inconsistent results at the plate. Shows glimpses of hard contact, yet struggles with pitch recognition and strikeouts. Needs to improve his plate discipline and swing for offensive success. Grade: 40

Power: Average raw power as contact struggles plague its potential. When his swing connects, raw power truly shines with moonshots to right field. Has good hand speed and raw power from the left side. Sells out for power for inconsistent results. Grade: 50

Field: Fielding grades as average across the board. Has good speed to cover ground in center field. Shows solid range and quickness. Lacks eye-popping defensive awareness and ability. Shows the skills necessary to stick in center field. Grade: 50

Arm: Fringe-average arm strength from center field. Throws lack consistent velocity and accuracy. Puts extra effort into his motion and delivery. Arm strength continues to improve with each season. Grade: 45

Run: Plus-speed with good quickness and burst. Great acceleration out of the box. Adaptive base stealer, picks his jumps wisely. Hustles for extra bases. Speed makes up for weak contact results at times, beats out softly hit ground balls. Athletic traits should translate well to the next level. Grade: 45

Overall: Ray's injury and struggles have plagued him to this point, as his lack of plate discipline and contact limit his true offensive ceiling. He shows glimpses of above-average power, but doesn't show it enough consistently to grade out. His speed and defensive abilities bode well to his overall profile, but he must improve offensively.
