Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2016 Round 1
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Small and wiry frame with solid physical traits. Strong and compact upper half, filled out size. Sound lower half with strong legs. Has reached full maturity in physical development.

Hit: Violent left-handed swing with several moving parts. Hands drift apart, rock back-and-forth and remain well above the letters. Lower half stays hips apart, close and compact. Swing needs tinkering. Upper and lower fail to connect at times. Head pulls up at contact. Makes the majority of his contact pull-side to left field. Inconsistent results at the plate. Shows glimpses of hard contact, yet struggles with pitch recognition and strikeouts. Needs to improve his plate discipline and swing for offensive success. Grade: 40

Power: Average raw power as contact struggles plague its potential. When his swing connects, raw power truly shines with moonshots to right field. Has good hand speed and raw power from the left side. Sells out for power for inconsistent results. Grade: 50

Field: Fielding grades as average across the board. Has good speed to cover ground in center field. Shows solid range and quickness. Lacks eye-popping defensive awareness and ability. Shows the skills necessary to stick in center field. Grade: 50

Arm: Fringe-average arm strength from center field. Throws lack consistent velocity and accuracy. Puts extra effort into his motion and delivery. Arm strength continues to improve with each season. Grade: 45

Run: Plus-speed with good quickness and burst. Great acceleration out of the box. Adaptive base stealer, picks his jumps wisely. Hustles for extra bases. Speed makes up for weak contact results at times, beats out softly hit ground balls. Athletic traits should translate well to the next level. Grade: 45

Overall: Ray's injury and struggles have plagued him to this point, as his lack of plate discipline and contact limit his true offensive ceiling. He shows glimpses of above-average power, but doesn't show it enough consistently to grade out. His speed and defensive abilities bode well to his overall profile, but he must improve offensively.
