Jan 2021 Report

Evaluator: Rogelio Castillo

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Round 21
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Athletic build. Well proportioned. Strong legs. Future strength gains minimal.

Delivery & Mechanics: Throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Starts with his glove near his bottom of his stomach, raises his right leg right above his belt and plants it forward as he strides to the plate. Long arm action. Repeatability in his delivery. Works quickly.

Fastball: Sits 88-93. Throws downhill with arm-side run. Effective inside. Pitches to both sides of the plate. Has some deception. National tail and sink. Grade: 45

Curveball: Sits 77-80. Good 11-5 action. Tight rotation with depth and late break. Good velocity separation from fastball. Command's it well. Grade: 50

Slider: Rolls more like a slurve. Could use more depth to the pitch. Grade: 40

Changeup: More of a get me over pitch. Effective when down. Can spot inside on lefties. Maintains arm speed. Does not use the pitch as much as breaking pitches. Grade: 40

Control and Command: File has the best command in the Brewers system, allowing the fewest walks in 2019. All of his pitches come out the same tunnel padding deception. Overall there's plus control and above-average command on all four of his pitches. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: File will not overpower hitters on the mound however, his repeatability of his four pitch mix will allow him to get through a lineup once or twice. His ceiling is a back-end starter because his curve is average and the command of his fastball will help keep hitters honest. He changed his windup from Low-A to High-A.
