Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 Round 2
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Ideal frame. Tall and athletic, wiry build. High waist with broad shoulders and long levers. Upper body lacks significant strength. Average core; sturdy lower half. Impressive athlete with excellent coordination and fluid actions. Projectable frame that should fill out nicely. Injury history includes Tommy John surgery performed back in September of 2018.

Delivery & Mechanics: Semi-windup; tall and fall. High 3/4 arm slot with above-average arm speed and moderate effort in the delivery. Solid deception from letter high leg kick and hand break; claws behind back during long arm path. Above-average extension. Frame and high arm slot generate steep downhill plane. Fluid and athletic motions that are repeated fairly well.

Fastball: Sits 90-94; showed the ability to reach 97 in shorter stints prior to 2018 shutdown. Shows steep plane and solid arm-side run; riding life when he climbs the ladder. Fringy command; misses are predominately glove-side and low unintended spikes. Deception and late life pad overall quality. Grade: 55

Curveball: Classic power curve. Sits 79-83 with tight rotation and 11/5 depth at its best. Feel and consistency wavers, yielding the occasional hanger or cement mixer. Swing and miss present in the zone as a setup or spiked as a chaser. A solid fringy offering that falls just short of average. Grade: 45

Changeup: Sits 83-85; has feel, thrown with conviction while maintaining arm-speed. Features impressive late tumble and arm-side fade at its best. Challenges same sided batters; tough against LHB. Elicits swing and miss and weak contact. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Shows flashes of advanced pitchability; sequencing well, pitching backwards and attacking all four quads. Will then revert back to a FB heavy nibbler hunting for strikeouts, resulting in long at-bats and free passes. Overall it's a likely a limited command profile probably better suited for a reliever role. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Cloudy future as MacGregor hasn't pitched in a game since 2018 as Tommy John surgery sidelined him in 2019 and 2020's pandemic provided another lost season of development. The profile features a projectable FB/CH combo that's solid enough to challenge big league hitters. Overall a solid lottery ticket that could easily trend upwards and reach draft day's mid-rotation ceiling, but more realistically a potential spot starter or low leverage reliever without significant command gains.
