Evaluator: Russ Peters
Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 170 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Draft - Round 4
RuleV: On 40-man
Physical Description: Small framed, quick-twitch athlete, plays with speed and passion.
Hit: Slightly open stance. Legs shoulder width apart. Slight leg kick. Short, compact, contact-oriented swing with good barrel whip and bat control. Sees spin well. Patient, and puts a lot of balls in play. Draws walks and rarely strikes out. Needs to hit the ball on a line or on the ground to be successful. Too many popups to result in an above-average tool. Grade: 50
Power: Contact-oriented swing. Three career HR in over 1100 minor league at-bats. Does not make hard enough contact to profile for any power in his game. Grade: 20
Field: Range is good at SS. Should be a better tool than it has proven to be. Projects better as a second baseman or a super-utility player who could handle the outfield too. Grade: 50
Arm: Average, makes throw quickly and efficiently, arm to play anywhere in the infield or outfield with the exception of RF Grade: 50
Run: Above average tool, quick and light on his feet. Plays using instincts, shows poise and confidence on base baths. Can beat out balls on the ground for hits, unfortunately gets caught stealing too often, but to his credit keeps running, just above a 60% stolen base success rate in 2019. Speed is there for an increased success rate going forward. Grade: 60
Overall: Terry Francona said Clement "plays like he is riding on a rocket." Profiles best as a Swiss Army Knife type of player who could see time at 2B, SS, 3B, LF and CF. Plus makeup and grit. Needs to hit and run efficiently to make any impact in the big leagues.
