Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Round 2
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Shorter in height, but packs a good amount of size in his frame. Little room to fill out and develop physically, reached full maturity. Injuries halted development.

Hit: : Compact right-handed swing; bent and low throughout his stance. Hands slightly above the letters, stays locked in throughout his pre-load. Solid approach and average bat speed. Shows a good feel for contact, pounces on some mistakes in the zone. Flatter swing path with little leverage, but works an at-bat. Injuries have stunted his growth the past two years. Grade:

Power: Below-average power at the plate. Flat swing path limits loft; lacks the strength to carry it. Showed some gap-to-gap power, but lacks over-the-fence pop. Grade:

Field: Average fielding ability with quick motions and lateral movements on the dirt. Stays on his feet to make plays, lacks the athleticism to play balls deep in the hole. More of a natural fit at second base given lack of exceptional defensive skills. Grade:

Arm: Average arm strength at second base. Throws come out accurate, lack much zip and carry. Smooth scoop-and-throw motions for double plays. Grade:

Run: Fringe-average speed across the board. Doesn't get out of the box effectively; some sluggish movements. Still moved well for his added size. Lacks top-end speed and burst, but is instinctive enough to steal a couple bags. Grade:

Overall: Injuries have severely halted Frank's progress, who is now 24 years old and still hasn't played in 2021. When he was somewhat healthy and playing in 2019, Frank showed average tools across the board with below-average pop at the plate. He has a solid approach, but lacks much upside and is now at a disadvantage two years later. Let's hope he gets back on the field soon.

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 17 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 165 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2021 IFA
RuleV: 2025

Physical Description: Tall and lanky frame with plenty of projectibility. Needs to desperately add more size as he physically matures. Long limbs and arms.

Hit: Stands upright in the box from the right side; elbows bent with straight legs. Hands stay slightly above the letters. Slight left toe tap in pre-load; minimal movement. Intriguing potential, all raw ability at the plate. Shows some bat present bat speed, doesn't make much consistent hard contact. Hit tool can develop as he matures and receives more playing time Grade: 40

Power: Very little power with his present frame. Doesn't hit the ball hard for much contact, more of a slap-hit approach. More raw power can be added, but not much of a current tool at this point in his development. Grade: 30

Field: Shows solid range in center field with solid speed and instincts. Speed covers good ground to track fly balls in the air. Has the athleticism to stick in center long term with development. Grade: 50

Arm: Little footage on arm strength with throws from the outfield. Limited throws showed fringe-average carry and accuracy. Takes him some time to get into his motion; lacks the current arm strength to reach the infield on deep throws. Grade: 45

Run: Good athleticism and speed out of the box. Runs with a long, fluid stride with solid quickness. Shows the potential to be a base-stealing threat at the next level. Speed translates well defensively. Grade: 55

Overall: Piron was one of the Rays' top international signings in 2021. He is currently as raw as you can get with limited looks, footage and reports. He has a current blend of speed and defensive awareness, but he needs to physically mature and play to see the rest of his tools develop.

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2017 Round 4 (KC)
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Slightly above-average height with a lean frame. Has room to add strength, but he's carried the same body since college. High character player.

Hit: He's used a few slightly different stances over the last several seasons. Stands open and slightly crouched in the box with his hands back. There's some pre-pitch body sway. Has some noisy hands. Brings his weight onto his back foot as he utilizes a small leg kick to step into the pitch. Redistributes his weight evenly and has a wide base at impact. It's a linear swing that generates a good amount of line drive contact when he barrels the ball, but I've seen him too frequently get on top of the ball. Shows a strong eye at the plate and an uncanny ability to lay off on difficult pitches. Takes his fair share of walks. He has good bat-to-ball skills and works to stay alive at the plate. Capable bunter. Grade: 45

Power: He's a gap-to-gap hitter with below-average raw power. Shows an ability to elevate and drive the ball to the pull-side when he barrels it, but he lacks physical strength, and it's mostly average bat speed. He has a contact oriented approach, and the power plays well-below-average in games. Grade: 40

Field: Instinctual player in the grass with average-to-above-average range. Takes good routes. Traditionally seen as a CF, but he has experience with all outfield positions. It's worth noting he's so far played more in the corners during the 2021 season. Grade: 50

Arm: Shows average arm strength with solid carry from the grass. Plays in CF and LF. On target in limited looks during the 2019 season. Grade: 50

Run: Timed between 4.18 and 4.22 down the line from the left side; he's an average-to-above-average straight-line runner that lacks initial burst. Has shown an ability to pile up steals, much of which is attributable to his strong awareness on the bags. It's worth noting he suffered a torn ACL in 2018. Not quite the burner he once was. Grade: 50

Overall: Gigliotti has a strong eye at the plate and some bat-to-ball skills, but it comes with minimal power. He can play all over the outfield and still has some speed, but he's far enough down the organizational depth chart to suggest it will take a different organization for him to get an opportunity to reach the big leagues. He is trending like an upper minors piece.

Kevin Parada is one of the most talented hitters in the entire country playing at a premium position behind the plate, no less. A decorated member of the Georgia Tech program, Parada spent him summer with the US College National Team after a loud 2021 true freshman campaign. He looks to build upon that success in 2022 and figures to be in the conversation near the top of the 2022 MLB Draft.

2021 USA BASEBALL COLLEGIATE NATIONAL TEAM PREVIEW

Georgia Tech has earned the moniker of “Catcher U” and they added another talent to their line of big catching prospects in Kevin Parada, one of the best bats to reach campus following the 2020 draft. In 52 games, Parada slashed .318/.379/.550 with nine home runs, showcasing an advanced approach at the plate. He’s got considerable pop in his bat, with gap-to-gap power and will utilize all fields at the plate. He’s got good framing abilities and has the tools to stay behind the plate defensively. He’s got good arm strength and moves well behind the dish. It’ll be interesting to watch him during the next year, especially as he will be one of the youngest players in the 2022 draft.

22 IN 22: SOME PREMIER NAMES TO KNOW FOR THE 2022 MLB DRAFT

It seems every other year we’re talking about a talented catcher coming out of Georgia Tech, and Parada certainly fits the bills as next in line. Scouts are in love with the whole package Parada brings to the table. He projects a plus hitter with plus power, maybe more. Behind the plate, he’s an above average receiver with a potential plus throwing arm and strong athleticism for the position. Parada burst onto the scene as a true freshman for the Yellow Jackets anchoring an impressive lineup that scored a lot of runs. Parada was a popular name in the 2020 draft, but with only five rounds and limited bonus pools, he went unselected, a mistake teams may regret for years to come. If history is any indication, Head Coach Danny Hall may let Parada call his own games in 2022, a luxury he provided to Joey Bart and Matt Weiters in their draft-eligible years.

Apr 2021 Article

LIVE LOOKS: EARLY SEASON ACC PLAY

Thanks to a shortened draft last summer, plenty of highly touted prep prospects walked onto campus in the fall and have made instant impacts. Parada is one of them. He’s been one of the more successful freshmen in all of college baseball and he could find himself getting a nice payday atop a loaded 2022 draft class.

Parada is a 6’1”, 197 pound athletic specimen with a strong frame and plenty of projection to come. For a 19 year old, he’s got a mature approach at the plate and sprays the ball to all fields. He’s got a wide stance at the plate and he has a fluid load and generates a lot of bat speed. There’s some decent separation in his operation and it’s all triggered by a moderate leg kick. Pre-swing is unique, as his lead elbow waggles in front of his face, which sets his hands high prior to loading up. He’s got some decent pop in his bat as well, which he utilizes to all fields.

Defensively, he can be a little stiff behind home plate, but moves adequately and shows good blocking and receiving skills. He’s got a strong, accurate arm and has produced above-average pop times, as well. It’s likely he will stay behind home plate at the next level. He’s not the fastest runner you will come across, and it won’t get any better for him. But, he’s an exciting 2022 prospect with aspirations of being a first rounder.

C Kevin Parada, Georgia Tech | Draft Year: 2022 | .473/.532/.745, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 7 2B, 13 R

It would be impossible to write this article without including the all everything freshman Kevin Parada. The hitting machine has only started his Georgia Tech career by earning the starting catcher job and then became instantly the best hitter on the team. His .473 AVG currently leads all freshmen in the nation and he’s doing it with thump, as he’s already notched 7 2Bs and 2 HR. Behind the dish, Parada is receiving a veteran pitching staff that has filthy stuff with relative ease. It’s early, but he’s already showing the making of an elite everyday backstop at the next level.

WHO'S THE SUPER-SLEEPER OF THE 2021 MLB DRAFT? -- MAILBAG

Q: Assuming the probability of staying behind the plate is the same, who has the higher FV, Henry Davis or Kevin Parada?

Henry Davis and Kevin Parada are certainly two of the best catchers in college baseball this season. When Parada’s signing bonus demands went unmet during the 2020 MLB Draft, most evaluators, including myself, were pretty pleased we were going to get the opportunity to see him blossom into a star at Georgia Tech. He looks well on his way.

As far as future value goes, I’d probably give Parada a half-grade edge in the projection department. But let’s keep in mind how early it is in his career.

Offensively, Davis has some similarities to a guy like Evan Gattis. It’s an above average hit tool with plus raw power. He doesn’t quite get to his full raw power potential yet, and some of that has to do with his flatter swing. That said, he gets very high marks for his discipline and approach at the plate.

Parada has a more conventional swing, although he’s tinkered with it a bit since arriving on campus. He’s got a fantastic feel for hit and power. He gets a little better extension than Davis does in his swing. Parada’s bat path is a little more prototypical than Davis’ as well. He looks every bit the next in the long line of super successful Georgia Tech backstops (Jason Varitek, Matt Weiters, Joey Bart).

Both players have fantastic throwing arms and are good bets to stick behind the plate moving forward, and that’s important in throwing a future value on a player, regardless of the parameters of the question.

MLB DRAFT: DATA INFLUENCED BIG BOARD

Kevin Parada, C, Loyola, Georgia Tech commit

A teammate of Hunter Greene in high school, Parada is one of Georgia Tech’s top recruits in the prep 2020 class and has some big shoes to fill in a program that has produced some premium catcher talent over the last couple years. He sports a strong, well-proportioned 6-foot, 190-pound build.

Parada swings from the right side and starts his stance with an exaggerated load into his back leg. It’s a short swing and his barrel stays in the zone for a long time, which is obviously a good thing. Parada has some easy power to all fields in his bat and consistently elevates the ball. His approach at the plate could use some refinement, but he has showed an ability to pick up spin out of the hand. He’s a bat first catcher that is a bit raw behind the dish. Right-handed hitting catchers that don’t excel behind the dish aren’t premium draft guys, so I’d expect him to find his way onto Georgia Tech’s campus.

Dec 2020 Report

Evaluator: Geoff Pontes

Physical Description: Average height but physically strong. Only slight projection remains in the body. Could add strength in his lower half in the coming years to help him maintain his best velocity deep into games.

Delivery & Mechanics: Deceptive delivery, from full windup Liu deploys an exaggerated leg kick with almost a slight hitch before extension (Tanaka-esque). Step and throw mechanics, clean arm action, from a three quarter slot. Low release due to height and drive. Shortens up operation from the stretch, shortens the height and extension of leg kick, will rush through his motion at times from the stretch and lose his feel for his fastball+slider combination. Good mechanics and plus velocity already are a good combination.

Fastball: Up to 98 mph in game as of last fall, sitting low to mid 90s at the moment. Fastball has good life and he can rise it and run it. Late life, will lose release at times and miss gloveside. Still improving feel but it's his best pitch. His best fastballs are elevated with flat approach angles and efficient backspin. Grade: 55

Slider: Slurvy breaking ball with gyro spin, his best sliders have little movement and little late vertical drop. Shows the ability to bury it when needed. Will lose release from stretch and command will waiver. Solid projectable second offering. Grade: 50

Changeup: Similar velocity band to his slider 80-83 mph, gets late fade, used less than splitter in game, only limited looks. Grade: 40

Splitter: Reported velocity in the high-80s runs with drop to his armside. Others will run too much and are easy takes for hitters. Limited feel at this point. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Liu's ability to command his arsenal from the stretch really knocks his overall command grades at the moment. At just 21 and a full year since the most recent game video, it's hard to know if Liu has improved in this area. He's at least an average strike thrower and when he repeats his motion he lives around the upper quadrants. Prone to leave his fastball over the plate and hang his slider when he loses his timing, as his arm drags. Control: 50 | Command: 40

Overall: Has the velocity and movement on his fastball, a secondary that's at least average and two pitches he can develop into a true third offering. Still waiting to make his debut in affiliated ball. Stuff to dream on and his lack of height is becoming less of a detriment and more of an asset. Very limited public profile.

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2018 Round 3
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Above-average height. Solidly built throughout. Carries good weight. Some negative body language.

Hit: Mostly upright stance with a slight hunch over the plate. He's gotten more vertical since signing with the Rays. Keeps his elbows and the bat high. Slight pre-pitch bat movement. Small leg kick as he loads and steps into the pitch. Gets low in a slightly closed stance pre-contact. Average or better bat speed, but he shows a tendency to overswing. Swings on a level plane, but too frequently gets on top of the ball. Can get the ball on the bat, but he has struggled to impact the ball in 2021 and needs to elevate the ball with more frequency. Improving his barrel control will help. Shows an average eye, but I've watched him almost become too passive at the plate. He has some innate bat-to-ball skills, and has a solid track record of getting on base, so there's some room for growth here. Grade: 45

Power: Below-to-fringe-average raw power that has yet to show up during the 2021 season. Has the strength and bat speed to get the ball out of the park, but he creates minimal leverage with his swing. His inability to elevate the ball unsurprisingly hinders his power output, and the whole package plays well below-average. Grade: 30

Field: As is typical with Rays' prospects, he's got experience all around the diamond, but he's primarily playing C and SS to begin the 2021 season. He's still rough around the edges behind the dish, this being his first year getting in-game reps, but he shows an aptitude for the position. He moves well back there and can get low to block pitches in the dirt. He has an understanding of framing pitches and is an average receiver. At shortstop, he moves well enough laterally to suggest he can handle the position, but it's probably just average range. He shows a nice backhand on balls to his right, and he does a good job of keeping the ball in front of him. Given the average range, and pairing that with an average arm, Proctor will likely never profile at the position. He's played C, 2B, SS, and 3B, and he can be a close-to-average defender in several positions. Grade: 45

Arm: Average arm strength that plays as such behind the dish and on the left side of the infield. I have a couple of pop times recorded between 2.04 and 2.13 depending on the quality of the throw down to 2B. He was less on target than desired in limited looks, but he's still green to the position. At shortstop, he throws from a high 3/4 when going across the diamond, but he'll drop that slot down to get the ball to 2B or C. Grade: 50

Run: He's a fringey runner, recording times between 4.22 and 4.27 down the line from the left side. He's not a threat to steal. Grade: 45

Overall: Proctor isn't hitting as well as he has in years past, and it may be attributable to him focusing on his new defensive position. It may also just be the talent gap between A+ and AA ball. It looks like he'll probably be decent enough to stick at C, but he can also step in and play the super-utility role the Rays continue to develop. He was never going to be an impact hitter, but his bat will need to perk up to continue to move up the ladder and not get lost in the shuffle that is the Rays' tremendous depth. Without any kind of growth with the bat, he looks destined to stick in the high minors and be an occasional injury replacement.

Age: 22 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 200 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2015 IFA
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Average height. Strong throughout, but carries some extra weight in his midsection. Thick lower half. Physically maxed.

Hit: Stands upright with his knees slightly bent and his feet wide. Has opened his stance since the minor league shutdown. Keeps the bat vertical and in front of his right shoulder. Gets into a crouched position and cocks the bat backward as he loads. Utilizes a moderate leg kick as he steps into the pitch. Swing can get long. Has above-average bat speed, but tends to overswing. At its best, it's a linear swing that generates linedrive contact to the outfield, but he also has a tendency to uppercut the ball and get underneath it. Shows some feel for the barrel, but he swings through a lot of pitches, particularly on pitches down and on the inside of the plate. Opening his stance has allowed him to make better contact on inside pitches. He lacks pitch recognition, and it's an aggressive approach that will always make strikeouts a part of his gam Grade: 40

Power: Has plus raw power and a swing that gets the ball in the air to the pull side with regularity when he connects. Has the natural power to hit to the opposite field, too. Paired with his quick bat and natural strength, there's reason to believe the power plays at the major league level. Grade: 50

Field: Has familiarity with both corner positions, but probably fits best in LF. He has a thick build and fringe-average foot speed, and accordingly covers a less than average amount of ground, despite getting solid reads. Grade: 45

Arm: Strong arm with good carry from the outfield. Accurate in limited looks. Arm plays in any outfield position, and he's used it as a weapon in the minor leagues. Grade: 55

Run: Timed at 4.31 down the line from the right side, but has added some weight since getting that time. Hustles out of the box. Grade: 45

Overall: Gomez's power is his calling card, but there's significant swing and miss to his game, which will reduce the output and, in turn, the likelihood of him ever impacting a major league lineup. He's still young, but the tendencies that have haunted him since signing still exist, and there's little reason to believe those will disappear.

Hit: Slightly open stance, small leg kick, smooth line drive swing, plus bat to ball skills, looks like a natural hitter, patient and comfortable at the plate, works counts Grade: 60

Power: Current profile is hit over power, more of a singles and doubles approach, slight adjustment to swing path could unlock a few more bombs but hitting for power is just not Ovalles' game Grade: 40

Field: Good instincts in the field, makes all of the routine plays, lacks speed for center field, average to a tick above at corner outfield spots, has also played some 1B, bat leaves a bit to be desired for these corner spots Grade: 50

Arm: Average arm with decent carry, fairly accurate, enough to play right field but more suited for play in left field Grade: 50

Run: Does not lack hustle but is just not a real fast player, run is a below average to maybe even a slightly restricting tool Grade: 40

Overall: sweet swing with above average hit tool and the ability to get on base, limited power and defensive fit make it tough to see consistent playing time at the major league level, however Ovalles is a good ball player who will help a team off the bench or in an emergency replacement role

Physical Description: Stocky, athletic build, thick, powerful lower half

Hit: Starts from a slightly open stance and moves into a fairly significant leg kick, quick bat, makes hard contact from both sides but more polished from the left side, patient hitter who can take a walk, strike outs remain a concern Grade: 45

Power: Bat speed exists to add power, tends to hit more liners and grounders than fly balls, this allows Ramirez to utilize his speed but takes away from his ability to hit homers, would benefit from added loft in this area but could be a catch 22, has shown more power as of late but the average has taken a hit Grade: 40

Field: Very smooth, quick transitions, get to ball quickly, does everything you want a middle infielder to do, covers a lot of ground and could stick at SS Grade: 50

Arm: Strong arm with good carry, would translate well into role as utility player Grade: 55

Run: Plus tool, has shown to be an aggressive runner who will take any extra bases given to him, quick out of the box, efficient base stealer Grade: 60

Overall: Profiles as a potential spark plug type middle infielder, biggest question remains the bat, at this point it seems to be hit or power rather than hit and power, strike outs remain an issue, likely outcome of a super utility type who can fill in just about anywhere but the tools are there to be a steady climber up the rankings if the power and hit can start to play together.

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 225 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R

RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Muscular build. It looks like he's reached physical maturity.

Hit: Hands start by his head and are moving up until the load. Utilizes leg kick that stops just shy of the knee. Swings hard with very fast hands allow him to catch up to velocity. Covers the zone well. Swing is geared to get every drip of power out of his body, because he sells out for power there is a lot of swing and miss. Pull heavy, sees a lot of shifts to the left side. Good feel for the zone and patience leads to plenty of walks. Grade: 40

Power: Hard swing with loft. When he makes barrels up the ball it goes a long way. Raw power is easily plus, if not more. Very good at hunting for pitches to drive when up in the count, but will sell out for power on every swing. The power can play to all fields, but his approach and tendency is to pull the ball, so that's where it shows most. Grade: 55

Field: A reliable glove in the corners. Will make the plays he should. Can play up the middle in a pinch, but is better suited for the corners. Grade: 45

Arm: He will be limited to left with his arm, maybe centerfield. Exhibits fringe, at best, arm strength from the outfield. Grade: 40

Run: Speed plays well on the basepaths, his IQ helps him successfully steal. In the outfield it helps his range and would help him to patrol any of the three spots if his arm allows. Grade: 45

Overall: Hulsizer is a smart player, which certainly helps. When he's up in the count he does a very good job hunting for a pitch to drive. He sells out for power on every swing, so he misses a lot. There is a world where he is one of the most prolific power hitters in the game, but it's more likely he doesn't hit enough to reach that power ceiling. The power makes him very intriguing.

Evaluator: Joe Heinstskill

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2020 Round 4
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Taller for a middle infielder with long legs and a high waist; average bulk.

Hit: Slightly open stance with a wide base, upright with his hands at his shoulder. Compact swing with average bat speed; repeats swing well; does a solid job of making contact; commands the strike zone well; good plate coverage. Grade: 45

Power: Does possess fringe-average to average raw power due to frame and natural strength, however his swing is geared for contact, he does not engage his lower half effectively, leading to little in-game power, on occasion will show some ability to drive the ball into the gaps. Grade: 40

Field: Has the potential to stick at shortstop due to average athleticism and quality instincts. Does not have a quick first step but instincts help make up for slight lack of suddenness. Range is average to slightly above-average. Has the potential to be a serviceable middle infielder who could also play third. Grade: 45

Arm: Strong, loose arm; average carry and accuracy; enough arm to handle short. Grade: 50

Run: Average runner, slightly better underway. Grade: 50

Overall: Murray lacks a standout tool but has enough polish and feel that he should move through the lower minors quickly. He shows the ability to make consistent contact and control the strike-zone, his glove and arm are enough to project him to stay at short defensively. His lack of in-game power is holding his profile back.

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 210 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2014 Round 5
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Above-average height with a good body that is noticeably trimmer in the midsection than in past seasons. Strong throughout.

Hit: Has toyed with several iterations of his stance since signing. Presently stands crouched with his hands back. Significant amount of pre-pitch bat and hand movement, something he's had since signing. Utilizes a small leg kick as he loads and steps into the pitch. Swing can get long. It's above-average bat speed with an upward swing plane that gets the ball in the air often. Has consistently produced more fly outs than ground outs since signing. Shows some bat-to-ball skills and he has a good eye, but he strikes out too often, which has followed him from rookie ball to the big leagues. Strikeouts will be a part of his game, but so will walks. There's potential for average or better on-base ability, but it's going to require him to get to cut down on the strikeouts, something he's been unable to do since signing. Grade: 40

Power: Plus raw power that started showing up with more frequency in 2019 after an adjustment that got him lower in his stance and creating better leverage. He has the bat speed and swing plane to get the ball out of the park with regularity, but the swing and miss hinders the ultimate output. He can also get pull-happy. Grade: 50

Field: Has quick reactions in the field but he covers an average amount of ground at 3B. Moves well enough laterally to suggest he can stick. He's unafraid to charge the ball and shows a good backhand, but mostly just makes the routine plays. Grade: 50

Arm: Strong arm with good carry across the infield. Throws from a low 3/4 slot. Quick transfers. Arm plays at 3B. Pitched as an amateur. Grade: 55

Run: Timed at and around 4.38 down the line from the right side. Hustles out of the box. Not a threat to steal. Grade: 40

Overall: Padlo shows some very real power and a good eye, but he simply struggles with strikeouts. That alone will hinder his chances at starting long term, but he does enough things to stick, likely in a multi positional backup role. He's an average fielder at 3B, something that has been aided by the improvement of his body, and he's also taken reps at 1B and 2B in the minors. He's on the 40-man roster and debuted in 2021.

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 20 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 165 lbs
Hits/Throws: S/R
Acquired: 2018 IFA (CHC)
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Short and compact frame with a good amount of size to his build. Sound upper and lower half with room for more.

Hit: Sets up short and crouched from both sides; knees and elbows bent with arms locked in place. Minimal pre-load movement; subtle leg kick and toe tap for timing and rhythm. Aggressive approach, not afraid to swing heavy first pitch. Solid bat speed and contact from both sides; looks a bit more comfortable from the left with righties pitching him more inside. Flatter bat path, but simple swing and smooth motions. Strikeouts and power-heavy approach has held him back from getting on base more consistently. Raw tools evident, needs more polish at the plate. Grade: 50

Power: Enticing raw pop has yet to translate to games. Shows a good feel for a barrel, but flatter bat path limits power potential. Good strength to lift the ball at times, creates solid leverage. More gap-to-gap power present, sprays mistakes from either side. Shows potential, but power leaves more to be desired. Grade: 45

Field: Added size and weight has pushed him to more starts at third base. Doesn't move well enough to stick at short long term. Still looks like a natural fit for second base. Makes up average ground on the dirt with quick motions. Good awareness. Plenty of defensive versatility as a temporary fill-in at three infield spots. Grade: 50

Arm: Throws come out accurate with good zip and carry from all three spots. A bit of effort in release, but throws meet the target in time. Has the arm to make plays deep in the hole on occasion. Above-average arm strength and accuracy. Grade: 55

Run: Above-average athleticism in all facets. Quick feet out of the box with good acceleration. Covers good ground with his speed defensively. Overly aggressive base runner, lacks the top-end speed to swipe bags in any count or situation. May lose a step if he continues to add more size; it remains a vital part of his game. Grade: 55

Overall: Martinez has intriguing tools, but has yet to tap into them on a consistent basis. His raw power hasn't translated to this point, though he shows an average feel for the barrel. He offers some defensive versatility, but isn't great at one particular position. His speed is still a big facet of his game, but if he continues his hitting struggles, it may not matter much.

Evaluator: Geoff Pontes

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 186 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 2
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Average frame with a lean upper body and long legs. High waist, noticeably thick butt, muscular thighs. Room to add weight up top. Natural athlete who makes things look easy.

Physical Description: Thin but projectable frame, could see him adding anywhere from 20 to 25 over the coming years without his athleticism taking a hit. Wiry strength at this point that should mature in time. Good build, projection, and a frame that shouldn't age poorly.

Hit: Pitch recognition and tracking skills still developing. Has the bat speed to catch up to velocity and flashes above average raw power in batting practice. Right handed swing sets up open, with a front toe tap trigger begins his load with a rock, gets deep into back hip. Stays balanced with a longer bat path with slight angle and an abrupt uppercut finish. At this point Lugo struggles to recognize spin and catch-up to elevated fastballs. This may come in due time, as mechanics are good and he has shown some feel to hit versus age appropriate competition. Grade: 45

Power: it's all projection here, but the combination of plus bat speed, with added strengths gains, and good swing mechanics that engage his lower half I'm willing to gamble on Lugo developing at least fringe average game power. Grade: 50

Field: Projectable defensive profile, quick first step, rangy, quick twitch actions, shows the ability to make athletic plays in the field. However, Lugo is still very underdeveloped fundamentally and will make mistakes that should be cured with experience. Has the hands and actions to stick in the dirt sliding to either third base or second base long term. Tools and speed to transition to the outfield. Projects as an average defender due to tools and athleticism. Grade: 50

Arm: Strong throwing arm with zip and improving accuracy. Was up to 90+ mph from the infield as a high school senior. Strong enough arm to guy anywhere in the infield or outfield should it come to that. Grade: 55

Run: Plus runner, ran a 6.46 60 yard dash pre-draft, has the ability to steal bases, and put pressure on defenders. Grade: 60

Overall: Tooled up player with projectable power and defensive value. Improvements in pitch recognition and approach could see raw power translate to game power. Right now a projectable teenager with loud tools and not much polish. If he maintains athleticism and makes moderate offensive gains in the coming years should reach a utility level floor.

Evaluator: Joe Drake

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2020 PHI
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Average build, unassuming. Wide shoulders, but not built. Not muscle bound but not quite soft. No real distinguishing features outside of slightly long legs. Decent athleticism. Body is mature. What you see is what you get.

Delivery & Mechanics: Throw from three quarters to low three quarters arm slot with relatively low effort. Windup features leg kick to the letters; Simple and easy to repeat, hides the ball decently. Works quickly. Mechanics quicker from stretch with slightly abbreviated leg kick. Not quite the same repeatability.

Fastball: Sits 91-92, T93, with good armside run. More run than rise but can still get a whiff at the top of the zone. Will flatten out occasionally. Hitters struggle to square it up and he can put it by them when he's on. Grade: 45

Slider: Sits 82-84 and has average bite. Able to throw it for strikes and off the plate for whiffs. Can backdoor lefties with it. Tunnels nicely with FB. Confidence to throw it behind in the count and full count. Even 3-0. Grade: 50

Changeup: 79-81 Good depth with armside fade, 10-4. Will throw it to both lefties and righties. Tough on hitters when it's down, feels like it could be his out pitch Grade: 55

Control and Command: Can hit the zone with entire arsenal. Lives on the edges of the zone, rarely leaving anything over the heart. Works both sides of the plate, knack for putting the ball where the hitter can't square it up. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: Finesse over power guy whose average stuff plays up due to command and sequencing. Induces more weak contact than whiffs, but is able to miss bats. Soon as hitters start sitting on the secondaries, he'll blow the fastball by them -- keeps hitters on their toes. More confidence in change could lead to more Ks. Not much upside here, needs the command to be effective -- not enough stuff to get away with mistakes. Stoic on the mound through ups and downs. Good shot as a back end rotation guy between the command, secondaries, composure and pitchability; long relief floor.

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 191 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2016 IFA, SD
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Average frame with a lean upper body and long legs. High waist, noticeably thick butt, muscular thighs. Room to add weight up top. Natural athlete who makes things look easy.

Hit: Moderately crouched stance with wide base. Hands are high with bat bobbing up and down on shoulder. Torso starts slightly coiled. No stride, slight shift back before resetting front foot for launch position. Few moving parts before swing; simple and still. Very patient, confident feel of zone, makes pitcher come to him. Swing plane feels level. Can lift balls down, but more prone to LD and grounders. Will try and bunt for a hit. Grade: 55

Power: Not a powerful swing. Looking to make solid contact rather than hit homers. Lack of loft makes for more gap power than HR power. Has the legs to stretch extra bases. Enough raw to move up a half grade if the swing is optimized for loft. Grade: 40

Field: Tracks ball off the bat comfortably. Moves easily and takes good routes. Makes it look easy. Above average range. Solid glove, makes good plays but doesn't come up with the great ones. Has that feel of a good, reliable defender. Good instincts. Grade: 60

Arm: Good actions and feel for positioning. Gets himself in position to throw. Ball stays on a line. Passable in right. Grade: 55

Run: Aggressive on basepaths, tries to take the extra base if there's a chance -- can stretch a single into 2. Glides on the bases and in the outfield. Clocked a 4.13 H-1. Weapon on the basepaths. Grade: 55

Overall: Prototypical CF prospect. Plus defender with speed and a good arm and the contact and plate skills to lead off. Not much power to speak of due to approach and swing plane, perhaps an adjustment could add a handful of homers. High probability MLB guy with defensive replacement/pinch runner floor. Feels like Victor Robles Lite.

Evaluator: Tyler Jennings

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 178 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Draft - Round 3, LAD
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Small for a catcher at 6'1" and just shy of 180 pounds. Skinny, athletic frame, but not much projection remaining to his body. Plays second and third base as well. Smaller frame allows for some more fluid movement.

Hit: Moderately wide stance at the plate, leg kick is his trigger. Hands moved to a higher starting point after trade from Dodgers, where his hands started low during his load. Swing is long and his approach is aggressive, which hampers the hit tool. Genuine concern for swings and misses, will need to refine his approach. Grade: 40

Power: Dodgers worked with Wong to give his swing more loft and to lift the ball more into the air. Swing is loose. He has shown solid raw power to all fields, but in game power will likely not be more than average due to contact concerns. Further adjustments will be needed if he wants to tap more into his power. Grade: 50

Field: Versatility is key for Wong. Primarily a catcher, he has played at second and third base in the past. Moves well for a catcher behind the plate. Receiving and framing skills are fringe-average, but have improved and could become average. Smooth hands in the field too, but likely will be placed behind the plate. Grade: 50

Arm: Average arm strength behind the plate. Works well for second base, too. Has worked on throwing as he has progressed, but likely won't reach a higher grade than what it is. Grade: 50

Run: Has shown off speed in the past, particularly in college at Houston, where he stole 26 bases in his final season on campus. Moves well, but will become an average asset as he gets older. Not likely to be a menace on the basepaths. Grade: 50

Overall: Wong's versatility will make him a future utility piece for the Red Sox. Hit tool will carry the most questions as he progresses. Will be interesting to see how far improvements behind the plate with receiving, framing, and throwing progress as well.

Evaluator: Tyler Jennings

Age: 18 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 220 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2020 Draft - Round 3
RuleV: 2024

Physical Description: Very young for draft class, as he reclassified to 2020 from 2021. Frame is nearly filled out, with a body that is physically mature. Maintaining his body is something to watch for, as his body is not primed to age well. Has lost weight and is making a solid effort at maintaining his body.

Hit: Wide stance with a subtle leg kick that he uses as his trigger. Hands start low, has insane bat speed and makes very loud contact. Drives his hips very well. Has previously struggled against older competition on the summer circuit, which does bring about questions regarding the hit tool. Some believe he could make enough contact to be average, but likely to be below-to-fringe average hitter. Grade: 45

Power: Easily Jordan's best tool and is his likely carrying tool. Has good natural loft to his swing and generates power very well. Drives the ball with authority to all fields of the park. Projected to be a plus power tool throughout the minors, due to bat speed, raw strength, and natural loft. Could develop into a barrel machine in the best case scenario. Grade: 60

Field: Due to his big body, his days at third base are likely numbered. His speed hurts his range and he will likely find himself being a first baseman at the big league level. Hands are a bit noisy and the footwork isn't the prettiest. Due to weight loss, his mobility has improved, but isn't likely to stave off a move across the diamond. Grade: 45

Arm: Arm strength is present, but will not be enough to stay at third base. Fringe-average to average tool. Grade: 45

Run: At 6'2", 220 pounds, he does not move particularly well. Not the greatest baserunner. Below-average at best. Grade: 40

Overall: The questions about the hit tool will persist. His power will be his dominant trait moving through Boston's system, and a move to first baseman is nearly certain despite his efforts to improve his body. If he can hit against older competition when minor league ball resumes, could be an average tool. High risk player.

Age: 24 yr
Height: 5-10
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 26
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Undersized. Not excessively muscular or large in stature. Athletic lower body. Springy, quick off the mound. Excellent athlete who excelled at other hand/wrist sports like golf and tennis.

Delivery & Mechanics: Slow buildup from set position can get one-legged. Quiet yet abrupt movement initiates windup from a mid-chest hold. Hip turn is quick and efficient, core strength to gather is significant. Much effort is made to stay on top of ball and force pitches to the lower portions of the zone. Post delivery leg sweep to get balanced into a forward facing fielding posture. Little overall wasted motion.

Fastball: Offerings are 2-seam, 4-seam and occasional cutter. Velocity can reach as high as 93-94. 4-seamer gets late ride and utilized as an effective strikeout finisher due to large percentage of stuff being down. 2-seamer located with high level of accuracy. Spin rates and location make this his preferred pitch. Grade: 45

Curveball: Tight, small spin path occurs ahead of swings without exceptional depth. RHBs seemed especially flustered even if swings were geared up to swing late. Not a tumbler, more a way to throw a different spin or surprise a righty. Can reach low 80's but sits high 70's. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Reaching low-mid 90's with his heat is a gift, but control and command are Roth's best assets. Very rare to have a misdelivered pitch leading to poor location. Spots are hit often regardless of pitch or path to get there. 12.5K/BB in year one; thanks to just two walks over 21 2/3 innings. Control: 60 | Command: 50

Overall: Excelling in a role as a reliever, Roth grabbed the reins and stacked successful appearances in his first year as a pro. A late round draft pick with a high strikeout profile at Randolph-Macon University continued to finish with strikeouts in the pros. Bulldog presence who prefers to come in with runners on or pressure building. The Orioles have turned a late pick into a bullpen pitcher with a developing arsenal. A solid depth piece with a chance for more.
