Evaluator: Jake Kerns
Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2017 Round 4 (KC)
RuleV: Eligible
Physical Description: Slightly above-average height with a lean frame. Has room to add strength, but he's carried the same body since college. High character player.
Hit: He's used a few slightly different stances over the last several seasons. Stands open and slightly crouched in the box with his hands back. There's some pre-pitch body sway. Has some noisy hands. Brings his weight onto his back foot as he utilizes a small leg kick to step into the pitch. Redistributes his weight evenly and has a wide base at impact. It's a linear swing that generates a good amount of line drive contact when he barrels the ball, but I've seen him too frequently get on top of the ball. Shows a strong eye at the plate and an uncanny ability to lay off on difficult pitches. Takes his fair share of walks. He has good bat-to-ball skills and works to stay alive at the plate. Capable bunter. Grade: 45
Power: He's a gap-to-gap hitter with below-average raw power. Shows an ability to elevate and drive the ball to the pull-side when he barrels it, but he lacks physical strength, and it's mostly average bat speed. He has a contact oriented approach, and the power plays well-below-average in games. Grade: 40
Field: Instinctual player in the grass with average-to-above-average range. Takes good routes. Traditionally seen as a CF, but he has experience with all outfield positions. It's worth noting he's so far played more in the corners during the 2021 season. Grade: 50
Arm: Shows average arm strength with solid carry from the grass. Plays in CF and LF. On target in limited looks during the 2019 season. Grade: 50
Run: Timed between 4.18 and 4.22 down the line from the left side; he's an average-to-above-average straight-line runner that lacks initial burst. Has shown an ability to pile up steals, much of which is attributable to his strong awareness on the bags. It's worth noting he suffered a torn ACL in 2018. Not quite the burner he once was. Grade: 50
Overall: Gigliotti has a strong eye at the plate and some bat-to-ball skills, but it comes with minimal power. He can play all over the outfield and still has some speed, but he's far enough down the organizational depth chart to suggest it will take a different organization for him to get an opportunity to reach the big leagues. He is trending like an upper minors piece.
