Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 27 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 207 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2011 IFA
RuleV: On 40-man

Physical Description: Solid, compact frame. Good size to upper and lower half. Sturdy build with narrow torso. Shorter in height, but has strong arms and legs. Uses many components of his body within his swing.

Hit: Open right-handed stance. Legs and hips wide to the plate. Stands tall in the box. Notable left leg kick within his stance. Hands and shoulders stay connected throughout his swing. Above-average hit tool with solid contact to all fields. Stays back on the ball. Finds spots to sneak hits past infielders. Makes good contact on pitches high in the zone. Struggles low and away. Patient approach, waits for his pitch and attacks. Tendency to stay in the count, gets on base consistently. Grade: 55

Power: Well below-average power in his swing. Makes softer contact, doesn't barrel the ball for extra-base hits. Struggles to pull the ball for power. Fits the profile of a contact-oriented hitter. Very little power present, needs improvement. Grade: 30

Field: Above-average outfielder with strong arm and instincts. Makes good routes to the ball in center and right field. Makes up a good amount of ground with his speed. Noteworthy mental errors, doesn't play the ball correctly. Has the defensive prowess to stick in center or right field long term. Grade: 55

Arm: Powerful arm that zips past the outfield. Nabs baserunners from center and right field. Strong arm meets home plate on one or two hops. Good accuracy and velocity. Makes the necessary throws to keep baserunners from advancing. Sound mechanically with a quick arm gets online carryon throws to the infield. Grade: 60

Run: Above-average speed with quick bursts and acceleration. Runs well out of the box. Very aggressive base stealer, but lacks top-end speed. Uses his speed to makeup errors defensively. Must improve timing and discipline to make the most of his base-stealing ability. Grade: 55

Overall: Signing with the Rockies as an international free agent in 2010, Daza made his big league debut last season in large part to his speed and defensive ability. He has a strong arm and good instincts to play right or center field, but his bat lacks hard contact and power. Has the tools to play a bench role but nothing more. Lacks power to make an impact or elite defensive skills to be a true fourth outfielder, defensive replacement. An up and down profile.
