Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Jake Boes

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 3
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Sturdy, well-proportioned frame with minimal room to add strength throughout; list height and weight appear accurate. May not be done growing, but advanced physically for his age; square shoulders with strength throughout torso and forearms; thick, strong thighs and legs. Frame reminds me of Max Muncy.

Hit: Stance slightly open with his hands above the letters. Feet begin and stay just over shoulder width apart through swing; healthy leg kick and will roll the front ankle over upon hip-turn. Generates plus bat speed by engaging legs and leveraging quiet, quick hands. Loud contact almost exclusively to the pull field. Tends to pull front shoulder off against left-handed pitching. Approach is over- aggressive at times; wants to hit. Will strikeout at a manageable rate. Overall, hit tool plays above average thanks to plus bat speed and a bat path that maximizes time in the zone. Grade: 55

Power: Flashes plus raw power in BP; over-the-fence contact almost exclusively goes to the pull field. Approach, mechanics and frame are geared for power. Shows average in-game currently but figures to play above average with additional physical gains and continued pro-instruction. Grade: 55

Field: Overall a below-average fielder; lacks quick-twitch movements sometimes necessary for a corner spot in the dirt. Glove transfers are quick and clean; footwork is technical but needs an extra crow hop at times; could be fixed with pro-instruction. Grade: 40

Arm: Fringe-average arm currently; relies on his feet to help with arm strength. Shows good throwing mechanics with accuracy. With continued development physically, arm could play average and strong enough to play anywhere in the dirt, but won't be a weapon necessarily. Grade: 50

Run: Times in the 4.30-4.33 range home-to-first; below average and figures to lose a step as he matures physically; will be fine on the basepaths but will not be a base-stealing threat or likely to take an extra base. Grade: 40

Overall: Hit tool will carry the profile, but significant risk because there is so much pressure on the hit tool to realize above average ability. Finding a defensive home will prove challenging, but may fit at second where quick twitch is less requisite while range continues to be less and less necessary thanks to the increase in shifts throughout the league. If the hit tool turns out, there is an average big-leaguer in there. More likely, it's a platoon infield profile the organization can leverage matchups with.
