Dec 2020 Report
Evaluator: Matt Thompson
Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021
Physical Description: Prototype body; looks like an NFL caliber wide receiver. Has room to add significant weight to frame. Currently high waisted with long limbs. Elite athlete with quick twitch. Very long strides and glides when underway. Thick thighs and rear end. Draws you to him when he steps on the field.
Hit: With long limbs and large frame. Elite bat speed and body control are his best traits in the box. It's unusual for a kid this young with a body like this to be fully in control of his body like he is. Quiet stance, w/ minimal movement. Everything is in sync mechanically, but he will expand his strike zone with two strikes, especially up. He has the difficult task of defending such a large strike zone, and there are still approach and swing and miss concerns. He's passive at the plate and will fall behind in the count at times. There were some major swing and miss issues with KRob at the alternate site, and reportedly it was to the point where it affected his confidence. Something to look out for. Grade: 50
Power: He has all fields power. In-game power is still developing, but it's a plus tool. Power comes mostly from the upper half presently. Learning to incorporate lower half in swing more. More line drives than high, towering blasts, due to level bat path. He's going to generate high exit velocities. Game power is future plus with raw power likely being a tick above. During the 2019 season his max EV was 114 MPH, and he average 90. 112. max during fall instructs, while averaging 89. Also improved his launch and added some loft. Future double-plus if the hit tool improves. Grade: 60
Field: He's moved around the outfield, spending time at all three outfield spots as the organization has done with all of their top prospects to increase versatility. He's a future left fielder though because he takes poor routes to balls and lacks feel on the grass. He's also likely to fill out and slow down as he ages. Grade: 40
Arm: Strong arm, he's improved throwing mechanics and moved from below average to average. Some accuracy issues in my looks, but there's enough carry and athleticism to get the ball in from the outfield quickly. Grade: 50
Run: Smooth plus runner with long, gazelle-like strides. Will fill out and slow down as he matures, but with his frame he should still be above-average at peak. Long legs and athleticism and can be a 15-20 stolen base threat once he learns the ins-and-outs on the basepaths. Grade: 55
Overall: It's a high risk but high reward profile and he could be a potential 30-35 homer bat with development. Needs some polish on the defensive side but with a potential bat like this that doesn't matter as much. Big, strong kid with all the necessary tools and has already hit full season ball at 18. He hits hard line drives but will need to generate more loft to fully maximize power potential. Future middle of the lineup bat.
