Weight: 190 lbs

Physical Description: Stocky, physically-maxed build. Squared shoulders, soft torso, wide hips, high waist, thick, sturdy lower half with no projection remaining. Likely 30+ lbs over 190 list. Any additional physical gains will further hinder the profile. Injury history includes two separate hamstring strains. Frame reminds me of Hanley Ramirez.
Hit: Stiff stance; hands rest high above the ear; hunched upper half with a stiff, upright lower. Feet outside of shoulder-width to form a wide base. Weight favors the backside before drastic weight transfer following load. Appears uncomfortable in the box. Struggles with spin; swings and misses and called strikes against it. Issues apparent from both sides of the plate; strikeouts will be an issue long-term. Struggles to make adjustments within at-bats, hindering consistency and quality of contact. Overall, a well below-average hit tool padded by the ability to drive the ball. Grade: 40
Power: Recent physical gains have helped power; shows plus raw in BP with the ability to drive the ball from both sides of the plate; opposite-field power primarily gappers; home run power favors the pull field heavily. A possible above-average grade with approach refinement, but likely settles in at average considering contact issues long-term. Grade: 50
Field: Nearly exclusive to third base; brief stints at second but struggled; shortstop days all-but-over with recent physical gains. A fringy third base; shows soft hands and makes expected plays; shows more finesse than twitch with movements. Gets ate up on occasion. Grade: 45
Arm: Plus arm; shows strength deep in the hole; resets feet well when moving glove-side. Comfortable throwing on the run and in the hole. Over-qualified for the right side of the infield; arm would play fine at either spot on the left side. Grade: 60
Run: Well below-average runner; lacks effort at times; home-to-first times ranging 4.52-4.63; not a base-stealing threat; lacks strong jumps necessary to take extra bases; not going to leg out infield hits. Grade: 30
Overall: The profile has changed significantly over the past couple of years from Maitan, shifting from a highly-thought-of shortstop prospect to a below-average third baseman within a short window. Maitan's profile as it stands does play at the big league level, but the role is fairly limited. High strikeouts, some thump, and passable defense when considering the arm will ultimately result in a reserve/niche role on a roster long-term.
