Nov 2020 Report
Evaluator: Jake Boes
Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2014 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: On 40-man
Physical Description: Well-proportioned, athletic frame with average strength. 6'2" 195 pounds appears accurate; quick twitch movements with no physical projection remaining. Lengthy injury history includes: knee, groin, quad, and back issues as well as Tommy John Surgery in 2016.
Hit: Stance begins slightly open but will close during load. Hands high with back elbow just above hands; utilizes hip turn and maintains a wide base throughout swing. Slight uppercut finish. Above-average bat speed through the zone generated with moderately high leg kick and aggressive hip turn. Approach is over-aggressive and has recently changed to sell out for power; can get behind in counts and will chase at high velocity and good spin both. Strikeouts will be problematic due to approach and inconsistent bat path. Grade: 30
Power: Has shown the ability to hit for extra bases to all fields in-game; home run power mostly to pull field. Speed will push extra-base numbers up. Hit tool and approach will prevent power from hitting average numbers. Grade: 40
Field: Impressive glove; highlight-reel catches consistently. Aggressive instincts and running ability allows him to rob bloop hits and gappers. Excellent routes; is able to track deep fly balls with ease. Reads ball off the bat exceptionally well; strong, reliable defender at any outfield position. Grade: 60
Arm: Average arm strength good for any outfield position; adequate enough to make throws to the nearest bag or hit cut off on relays. Grade: 50
Run: Plus runner; long legs but uses shorter, faster strides to get around the bases. Injury history and physical development have caused regression, but would still be good for double-digit steals in a full season. Leverages legs efficiently in the outfield. Grade: 60
Overall: Hill's fielding prowess and running ability carry the profile; continuing to refine the approach would push the hit grade, power, as well as his role grade all higher. However, minimal time to make such large adjustments at the major league level. Likely has reached projection.
