Physical Description: Sturdy, strong frame; more athletic than average for the position; thick neck with sloped shoulders; strong, well-defined forearms; thick, muscular lower half. 6'0" 215 lbs list height and weight appears accurate. Good work ethic; wants to be better. Did not start catching until high school.
Hit: Slightly open stance; hands sit high near the helmet away from the body; wide base. Small circle motion with the bat going into load; will step with the front foot but no stride; stiff lower half. Patient approach; contact issues especially with velocity; bat stays in the zone very little time; takes walks but will also strike out against good spin. Overall below-average hit tool. Grade: 40
Power: Power projects average; raw power shows flashes in-game; will hit home runs to left and center. Limited physical projection remaining will limit additional gains; contact issues cause power to play fringe-average. Grade: 45
Field: Plus fielder; agile movements behind the plate; excellent job blocking balls in the dirt; keeps the ball in front. Quiet glove; sets a nice target for pitchers and excellent framing ability. Grade: 60
Arm: Arm is double plus; strong and accurate. Unafraid to back pick runners sleeping on the base paths. Quick transfers with strong throws: pop times will range 1.88-1.95. Accurate; throws directly to the base. Grade: 70
Run: Well below-average running ability; station to station but will be able to tag on deep fly balls on the bases. Average runner for a catcher; not a base stealing threat. Grade: 30
Overall: Textbook backup catcher profile; strong defensive instincts and skills with work ethic to help reach that potential. Will need to hit to stick but defensive abilities should get him a look at the MLB level.
