Jan 2021 Report

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2014 IFA
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Above-average height and slight frame. Has some room to fill out, but has yet to do so into his mid-20s. High IQ player.

Hit: Crouched stance that is regularly open; closes in certain situations and counts. Keeps his hands high and in front of his left ear, reminiscent of many Korean hitters. Slight leg kick as he steps into the pitch. Balanced, technically sound swing that is easy and repeatable. Uses his whole body to generate average bat speed. Good barrel control and notably fights off velocity. Can use the whole field, but is a slap hitter that puts a lot of balls on the ground; has the speed to beat them out. Shows an above-average eye and lays off pitches away and out of the zone. Flashes an ability to bunt. Speed helps the tool play up, but the overall package will lead to an empty batting average. Grade: 45

Power: Fringe-average raw power that materializes mostly as gap power during games. Creates natural loft off the bat, but his approach is geared more towards putting the ball in play. Grade: 40

Field: Average range at SS that plays up due to his positioning and above-average glovework. Has soft hands. Good situational awareness at SS. Keeps the ball in front of him. Covers the bag well and makes the tag on base stealers. Grade: 50

Arm: Average arm strength at SS. Shows good carry across the diamond. Throws were on target in looks. Grade: 50

Run: Timed at and around 4.10 down the line from the left side. Heads up runner that has the speed to take an extra base on balls hit to the grass. A good base stealer that could swipe double digits at the major league level. Grade: 60

Overall: Park offers an advanced approach at the plate and projects as a future fringe-average hitter. He has the defensive chops to stick at SS and enough speed on the basepaths to take a base, but the lack of power that is becoming the norm at the position holds him back. It's a backup profile if he maxes out, and he still has some work to do to get there. He'll be 25 to begin the minor league season and was passed over in the 2020 Rule V Draft.

Evaluator: Tyler Henninger

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 170 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Trim, wiry build. Long limbs. Athletic body. Minimal muscular development, lacks overall strength. Frame has room to add weight and strength.

Hit: Open stance, hands just below the head. Crouched with feet shoulder width apart. Active hand load with hitch, sizeable leg kick timing mechanism. Toe taps with two strikes. Average bat speed, barrel is occasionally late due to excessive hand movement. Swing lacks drive and torque. Linear bat path with excellent bat to ball skills. Can make contact with almost anything. Uses the entire field well with contact-oriented approach. Ball rarely hit with authority. Approach could be fine tuned, needs to be more selective. Has ability to utilize the bunt. Bat to ball skills will allow him to make enough contact to be an average big league hitter. Ability to hit the ball with more authority will become crucial. Grade: 50

Power: Below average raw power, game power plays even lower. Power is not bottom of the scale, but close. Lacks necessary strength to drive ball. Turns into a slap hitter at times. Future power will be predominantly of the XBH variety, a result of finding gaps and using speed. Adding strength will help improve power, but approach will continue to hinder ability to drive the ball. Needs to be more selective and find pitches to drive. Grade: 30

Field: Sure handed defender. Instincts to make plays apparent. Soft hands, catches the ball well. Quick transfers and release. Footwork could improve, waits on GB occasionally and can lose body control at times. Above average range, moves well both ways. Speed and athleticism help. Flashes ability to make highlight-reel play. Needs more reps, but playable up the middle. Grade: 50

Arm: Fringy arm that needs more consistency. Good throwing mechanics with quick release. Lacks ideal carry. Usually around the bag, will make first basemen work at times. Able to throw from multiple angles and while on the run. Probably stretched at 3B, but playable up the middle. Best suited for 2B. Grade: 45

Run: Above average speed. Long strides. Gets out of the box well with good acceleration. Utilizes well for bunting purposes. Potential base stealer. Needs to improve instincts, gets caught too often. Ability to take extra base. Uses speed to make things happen. Grade: 55

Overall: Marcano's ability to make contact with almost anything is extremely impressive. His bat to ball skills are exceptional and will allow him to become an average hitter. While he does have a good ability of recognizing balls and strikes, he needs to become more selective. He has limited strength, so he needs to wait to get a pitch he can drive. While adding strength will help his power tool, it will never be one that stands out. Homerun power is never going to be the norm for him, rather he is going to have to rely on his speed to collect XBH. His speed is an above average tool, but he needs to learn how to use it to steal bases better. His stolen base success rate has been low due to a lack of instincts. Defensively, his glove and range stand out. He has the ability to get to a lot of balls and he catches the ones he gets to. The range and hands will play at short, but the arm is a question. It lacks consistency in both strength and accuracy. If he wants to stick, he will need to improve both, but he is more likely to slide over to second. As of now he fits the below-average, utility type role.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Danny Brackman

Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2017 Round 2
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Medium athletic frame. Very well put together. Long, thick legs with relatively short arms that help quicken levers. Pretty bulked and can look stiff at times, though raw athleticism and strength are evident.

Hit: Feet start ever so slightly open with a small pre-coil and front shoulder turn. Keeps his hands up and back near his neck as he stretches forward to create separation, generating good torque and showcasing rotational ability. Finish somewhat reminiscent of Kyle Seager. Capable of hitting to all fields but definitely still wants to pull. Good strike-zone awareness and plate discipline help but poor pitch recognition and timing issues currently cap potential. Grade: 45

Power: Exceptional strength and athleticism. Able to generate great bat speed however inconsistent barrel accuracy creates some launch angle looseness. Sizeable variance from raw power to in-game power in terms of consistency. The swing is geared to launch and he'll hit some tape measure shots when he gets his pitch. Projected above average pop though improved pitch selection still leaves some room for growth. Grade: 55

Field: Shaping up to be an average right fielder or a slightly above average left fielder. Gets mediocre reads off the bat and can be overly aggressive pursuing the ball but athleticism makes up for it. Not great lateral movements though his tracking is improving and he can even play a serviceable center in a pinch. History of infield defense from early days of college is still apparent in glove work. Grade: 50

Arm: Very good arm strength with good carry and a pretty quick release. Decent on-target accuracy. Potential to make some sort of impact chipping in assists or limiting runners taking the extra base. Grade: 55

Run: Average peak sprint speed but an explosive first step helps both in the field and on the bases. Good instincts and controlled aggressiveness show enough promise to keep the line moving. Should walk enough to get a decent amount of stolen base opportunities. Might slow down a step as he ages but athleticism suggests explosiveness should hold for a while. Grade: 50

Overall: Injuries have plagued Deichmann over his three years in pro ball and he's looking like a potential three-true-outcomes profile going forward. If he's able to improve certain areas regarding his contact ability, there's a chance he becomes a solid regular with his raw power and defensive capabilities. Perhaps the injuries are what have been holding him back, though at this point, a platoon/bench role seems most likely.

Apr 2021 Report

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 8
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Tall and lanky frame on the mound. Has added good size to his upper half; broader shoulders and more defined chest area. Long legs and limbs highlight his lower half. Solid size and height, near full maturity.

Mechanics: Shortened three-quarter delivery from the right side. Pitches above the letters; creates good extension and momentum high left leg kick. Over the top release point; clean delivery with little hiccups. Locates well and hits his spots.

Fastball: Low-to-mid 90s offering that continues to add velocity. Sits 92-94 and touches 96-97 seldomly. Good feel for his fastball with subtle spin and run. Lacks swing-and-miss results, but creates soft contact. Above-average pitch in his arsenal. Grade: 55

Cutter: Recently adopted cutter that is still a bit behind in development. Sits 87-89 and reaches the low-90s. Rarely thrown in any count. Shows signs of solid, tight spin against righties. Can play well off his fastball. Needs more reps and consistency. Grade: 45

Curveball: Low-70s curveball that shows signs of improvement. Sits 72-75 with inconsistent 12-6 depth and break. Good drop out of the zone, lacks consistency. Gets loopy within his delivery. Commands it well, stands out amongst his off-speed stuff. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Shows a good feel for all four pitches. Stays heavy on his fastball-curveball combo. Mixes in his changeup. Has solid command low and away. Pitches comfortably from the stretch. Gets away with several hittable pitches. Lacks strikeout stuff, struggles to put opposing batters away. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Kilian has a solid feel for his arsenal, but his stuff needs to improve. He improved his fastball velocity with added weight to his frame. His curveball remains a solid off-speed offering, while his changeup and cutter are still a bit behind it in development. He has the size to fill in as an occasional backend starter, but his ceiling doesn't point to much more.

Evaluator: Geoff Pontes

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 160 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Average height but gangly build with long arms and legs. High waist, above average athlete. At nearly 24 I'm not sure how likely another 10-15 pounds of projection is, but there's definitely room for growth.

Mechanics: Easy loose delivery, with a slight leg lift, that features a moderate hitch before foot plant. Delivers from a three quarters arm action with an average release height on the fastball. He puts his long limbs to good use getting above average extension to the plate. Not really a drop and drive delivery, more of tall and fall with good balance and a whippy arm keeping him on time.

Fastball: Plus velocity sitting 94-96 mph ruching 99 mph multiple times across a handful of starts. In consistent movement, cuts his fastball too much to command it consistently elevated. Misses bats due to his velocity and late action on his fastball. Lacks average command however and will miss locations badly. With a little refinement Vizcaino has the ability to see his fastball really play in a relief role. Grade: 50

Slider: Sits 82-86 mph with slurvy break, looking almost like a harder curveball. Will get some swings and misses but mostly there as a change of pace for his fastball+off-speed combination. Grade: 40

Changeup: Plus pitch with nasty drop and tumble. Gets above average armside fade and sells it with the same arm speed and release point as fastball. The definition of a Bugs Bunny changeup. Sits 87-91 mph with heavy armside break, KC area the pitch well in all matchups, difficult take as it's mistaken for his fastball out of the hand. Will need to see how the pitch plays against high level competition, but should be a weapon in a bullpen role. Grade: 60

Control and Command: Struggles with his ability to consistently land his fastball to the desired spot. This in turn has led to fringe-average control of the zone despite excellent feel for his changeup. Fringe average strike thrower with below average command. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: The combination of velocity and a true swing and miss offspeed make Vizcaino a perfect fit for a pen role long term. Lacks the ability to command his stuff for long stretches and his changeup first approach fits well in the modern game of three batter minimums. A relief role long term that the organization showed belief in by adding him to the 40 man prior to the 2020 Rule Five. Late bloomer with a major league profile.

Apr 2021 Report

Evaluator: Ian Smith

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 165 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Very advanced physically. Muscle definition throughout his frame, with plenty more room for growth. Huge strength in his shoulders and lower half stand out. D1 WR type of build.

Hit: Canario stands in the box with a slightly open stance that sits around shoulder width apart. Primarily upright with a slight dip in his back leg. Hands sit right above the chest with a pronounced bat wiggle into a short hanging leg trigger. Canario will open early on occasion and the swing can get long, but presents electric bat speed through the zone. Creates noteworthy hip to shoulder separation and the overall use of his lower half is impressive consistently. Bat path creates easy loft and will show juice to all fields, primarily pull side. Canario is still working to pick up spin at a high level leading to some swing and miss, but the overall plate discipline is there. Grade: 45

Power: There's not much discrepancy between game and BP power for Canario, it's legit plus either way. Canario combines the use of his physical lower half and insane bat speed to create outrageous exit velos to all fields. Will routinely put balls off the batter's eye. As a teenager in 2019, Canario had an eye popping max exit velocity of 117, with multiple 105+ batted balls and 22 HR in 104 games since coming stateside in 2018. Grade: 60

Field: Canario has shown a confidence to attack balls while ranging in or on balls over his head. Takes smart routes to the ball and isn't afraid to put his body on the line for a catch. Foot speed allows him to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time. Has shown the ability to be a quality center fielder early in his career as well, but profiles best in a corner long term. Grade: 50

Arm: One of the louder tools in Canario's bag. Gets big carry and accuracy on throws anywhere on the diamond. Simple mechanics and natural strength allow easy throws without having to sell out and lose any efficiency. Arm has the potential to profile at all three outfield spots. Grade: 55

Run: An underrated aspect in Canario's game. A very quick first step both out of the box and in the outfield allow him to make difficult plays seem simple. Body control is evident in his stride and can reach top speed quickly, albeit without a blazing second gear. Speed will allow him to potentially reach double digit steals as he matures as well. Grade: 50

Overall: San Francisco could be hiding a legit dude in plain sight in Alexander Canario. A steady performer in Rookie and short season ball since coming to the states in 2018 with power potential that is on par with anyone in the entire Giants organization. There's some swing and miss here and Canario is coming off a torn labrum that's forced him to miss a good chunk of spring training, but the soon to be 21-year-old is likely to start in High A in 2021 with a bright future ahead.

Evaluator: Tyler Jennings

Age: 18 yr
Height: 6-6
Weight: 188 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 IFA
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Large, lanky frame with plenty of projection remaining. Athletic player with long levers. High ceiling, plenty of time to develop within the Yankees system.

Hit: Slightly open stance with hands starting above the ears and operation triggered by a sizable leg kick. Hands move slightly skywards before swinging down during coil. Slight upswing, though the swing plane can get a bit flat and inconsistent at times. He has solid rotation in his swing and he uses all fields. Alcantara's largest concern is with breaking balls, thanks in part to the aforementioned leg kick. He's a fastball hunter with a tendency to swing and miss, primarily with off-speed stuff away from him. Grade: 50

Power: The power potential for Alcantara is noteworthy. With the long levers and projection he has, Alcantara will certainly grow into his power, with some of it already showing. He's got a fast bat and some of the higher exit velocities in the Yankees system, averaging 88.5 MPH and reaching a maximum of 108 MPH in 2020. Presently, power mainly shows to the pull side, though he will likely use all fields eventually. Likely to be above-average power once he fully fills out his frame. Grade: 55

Field: Alcantara is likely to have a good chance to stay in center field, as he moves well and covers ground very easily. He takes good routes and he's got very good instincts and IQ. If he does move to a corner spot, the arm would definitely play well in right field. Grade: 50

Arm: Alcantara has a strong arm that will play well in the outfield, especially if he gets moved to right field. Arm strength will gradually get better with more weight added on, which brings about a potential plus grade here. Grade: 55

Run: As previously mentioned, Alcantara moves well and can cover a lot of ground thanks to his long strides. He will lose speed as he gradually adds strength, but he will still be an above-average runner. Grade: 55

Overall: Alcantara has one of the higher ceilings from his international class. He's got a ways to go before he reaches the majors, but there is a need for some refinement with the hit tool if he's to reach his full potential. With that said, he projects to be an average everyday center fielder with power, but as aforementioned, don't rule out a move to right field.

Evaluator: Mike Kinsela

Age: 19 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2020 Round 1
RuleV: 2024

Physical Description: Slender, athletic build with twitch throughout as well as room to fill out. Has done well to begin process of filling out, looks good and projects 10-15 pounds more at least.

Hit: PCA employs a smooth, whippy stroke from the left side with plus bat speed, generating good torque in his hips and getting the barrel on plane. There have been some small adjustability concerns but scouts were encouraged by early spring returns prior to COVID. Bat to ball has always stood out, sprays whole field and can work gaps. Grade: 55

Power: The most worrisome aspect of his profile on the summer circuit, added good strength to frame and was showing power prior to draft. Wiry strength with above-avg. bat speed and ability to lift to pull side work well, should fill out into more, barrel frequency should allow for raw power to play close in game. Grade: 45

Field: Perhaps PCA's best non-run tool, he covers tons of ground thanks to advanced instincts and reads along with that plus speed. He glides in the outfield and was one of the 2020 draft's best defenders, projecting to be a defensive asset at a premium position at the highest level. Grade: 60

Arm: Above-average raw arm strength, can generate mid-90's velocity on throws, quick release with solid accuracy, good throwing mechanics in general, arm should be an asset for him defensively. Grade: 55

Run: A true plus runner, PCA is regularly at 4.00 seconds down the line and can burn faster times depending on how he gets out of the box. He's an asset on the base paths and should steal 20+ bases annually at his prime. Grade: 60

Overall: Plus defensive center fielder with feel to hit, plus speed, and more power than one expects. Chance to be a leadoff-type hitter with good offensive projection and the aforementioned defense, upside of an All-Star.
