Evaluator: Danny Brackman
Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2017 Round 2
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster
Physical Description: Medium athletic frame. Very well put together. Long, thick legs with relatively short arms that help quicken levers. Pretty bulked and can look stiff at times, though raw athleticism and strength are evident.
Hit: Feet start ever so slightly open with a small pre-coil and front shoulder turn. Keeps his hands up and back near his neck as he stretches forward to create separation, generating good torque and showcasing rotational ability. Finish somewhat reminiscent of Kyle Seager. Capable of hitting to all fields but definitely still wants to pull. Good strike-zone awareness and plate discipline help but poor pitch recognition and timing issues currently cap potential. Grade: 45
Power: Exceptional strength and athleticism. Able to generate great bat speed however inconsistent barrel accuracy creates some launch angle looseness. Sizeable variance from raw power to in-game power in terms of consistency. The swing is geared to launch and he'll hit some tape measure shots when he gets his pitch. Projected above average pop though improved pitch selection still leaves some room for growth. Grade: 55
Field: Shaping up to be an average right fielder or a slightly above average left fielder. Gets mediocre reads off the bat and can be overly aggressive pursuing the ball but athleticism makes up for it. Not great lateral movements though his tracking is improving and he can even play a serviceable center in a pinch. History of infield defense from early days of college is still apparent in glove work. Grade: 50
Arm: Very good arm strength with good carry and a pretty quick release. Decent on-target accuracy. Potential to make some sort of impact chipping in assists or limiting runners taking the extra base. Grade: 55
Run: Average peak sprint speed but an explosive first step helps both in the field and on the bases. Good instincts and controlled aggressiveness show enough promise to keep the line moving. Should walk enough to get a decent amount of stolen base opportunities. Might slow down a step as he ages but athleticism suggests explosiveness should hold for a while. Grade: 50
Overall: Injuries have plagued Deichmann over his three years in pro ball and he's looking like a potential three-true-outcomes profile going forward. If he's able to improve certain areas regarding his contact ability, there's a chance he becomes a solid regular with his raw power and defensive capabilities. Perhaps the injuries are what have been holding him back, though at this point, a platoon/bench role seems most likely.
