Physical Description: Adams is lean, but strong and looks like a Division I wide receiver. Broad shoulders, large neck. Explosive hips and bottom half. The ideal body. An elite athlete, the type of kid that excels in any sport you drop him into.
Hit: He's reworked the swing since his high school days, quieting down that massive leg kick for a more controlled version. He raised his back elbow a bit while also constructing a bat path made for generating natural loft and getting into his power. He starts with his hands high, and stance slightly opened and bent at the knee. The swing is relatively long, two different loading mechanisms are present, I would like to see him eliminate the second one and reduce the length to the stroke. Lightning quick bat speed. Good batting eye, but can struggle against breaking balls. He's a tough player to evaluate because he's just starting the first time in his life where he's solely focused on one sport, and some of the inexperience in relation to his peers shows but he powers through it because of his athletic prowess. Grade: 40
Power: Adams has strong hands and wrists and has above-average raw power right now. His 50% ground ball rate doesn't allow him to fully tap into all of his power yet, and his swing is a bit flatter than you would like, but that has supposedly been a point of emphasis for him during the shutdown. Right now he can hammer balls to his pull side and will work the gap the opposite way. His speed will always turn singles into doubles and double into triples. Power could eventually be plus with time, but we aren't there yet. Grade: 45
Field: Elite athleticism allows him to chew up turf in the outfield and he gets to many balls that other centerfielders simply can't. He gets gap to gap with ease and is an aggressive outfielder. He's also mistake prone and will have lapses of concentration on some of the most routine balls. I typically don't pay attention to defensive stats but they help prove my point here. Adams had ten errors in centerfield in the Midwest League and that's far too many. The ingredients are here to be a potential plus fielder, but he needs to work on the finer points of his game first. Grade: 45
Arm: Adams has a strong arm. The type of arm that will allow him to settle in at any outfield position. Strong and accurate, he also displays good footwork and has a quick release. Grade: 55
Run: Adams is an 80-grade runner. Was getting plus run times on him after he broke it down two-thirds of the way down the line. He needs more polish on the basepaths to be a true stolen base threat, but you need to know exactly where he is when he's on base. Grade: 80
Overall: There's a strong chance Jordyn Adams is THE best athlete in all of affiliated baseball. Adams was a three sport star in high school, and even had a scholarship to the University of North Carolina to play both football and baseball. The Angels were interested and drafted him in the first round, and paid him a healthy overslot $4.1 million bonus. Adams is still growing into his baseball body, but the tools shine through. There's a chance he settles in as a plus hit, plus power 80-grade runner with plus defensive skills. It could happen because of his athleticism and as his inexperience fades away. Putting him as a present role 50, but that could easily jump up to a 60 if his offensive skills continue to develop.
