Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Russ Peters

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 12
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Tall, lean but strong, athletic, wide shoulders, room to add bulk to frame and limbs.

Hit: Wide base, slightly open stance, weight on back foot during load and transferred during swing, hands back and up even with shoulder, elbow up almost on an even plane with shoulder as well, deep hand load, very minimal step/toe tap for timing, fluid, easy swing, linear planed swing but results in both distance and loft, quick bat speed, advanced for his age despite the not so inspiring small sample in the Arizona League, has shown ability to be patient and work counts as a pro, hit should come with more exposure to pro pitching, coaching and reps, fringe-average to average potential in the end. Grade: 45

Power: Above-average raw power, likely to result in average game power if he can add muscle and size, able to consistently barrel balls but occasionally sells out his swing to try for the fences, overall has received positive reviews on the showcase circuit, was the only player to homer at the prestigious Puerto Rican Excellence Tournament in 2019. Grade: 50

Field: Athletic footwork, moves fairly well, nose for the ball, solid motions, actions and transfers with the ball, lacks some of the lateral quickness at short, can currently make high level plays at SS but could see a move to 3B with added size, glove at 3B would improve to become a plus asset. Grade: 55

Arm: Strong arm, throws carry well, sometimes appears to try too hard to add zip to his throws and sacrifices what is generally an accurate arm, clocked at 91-92 mph across the diamond during showcase. Grade: 55

Run: Slightly above average runner currently, potential added size will likely result in just average speed. Grade: 50

Overall: Signed over-slot for $249,000 in 2019, the 11th rounder from Puerto Rico has the size and raw potential to possibly surpass our modest expectations. A large gap between what is and what could be at the plate, tempers an otherwise impressive profile anchored by solid above-average defensive and arm strength. A decent lotto ticket with average regular upside; realistic future is likely a solid bench or utility infielder.
