Acquired: 2019 Round 5
RuleV: 2022
Physical Description: Listed at 5-10, 181. Lean, lithe build. Athletic but narrow frame; not much room for physical projection.
Hit: Really quiet setup; bat rests on shoulder with no pre-swing movement. Doesn't really engage lower half in swing but has visible effort in upper half; that generates above-average bat speed but leads to poor bat control. Very aggressive approach with poor pitch recognition. Grade: 40
Power: Bat speed drives average raw power. Game power plays down a bit because of poor hit tool. Grade: 45
Field: Solid infield actions; has the ability to stick at shortstop. Light on his feet with average lateral quickness. Flashes decent hands and transfer at times but struggles with consistency; cam be error-prone. Grade: 45
Arm: Average arm strength; might not be capable of making plays from deep in the hole at shortstop but enough arm otherwise to adequately handle the position. Grade: 50
Run: Plus runner; enough speed to do damage on the basepaths and play some small ball at Auburn. Grade: 60
Overall: Holland has an interesting combination of defensive upside and bat speed, but he's less of a finished product on both sides of the ball than most players drafted out of the SEC. Poor pitch recognition and bat control will probably limit him offensively, making it all the more important he becomes more consistent at shortstop. If he does, he might get to the big leagues as a valuable utility piece off the bench. After a big sophomore season at Auburn, Holland struck out a ton as a junior, dropping him into the fifth round of the 2019 draft. He's more toolsy than most fifth rounders, making that a worthwhile pick for the Twins, but the draft position bakes in the risk he can't hit high-level pitching.
