Apr 2021 Report
Evaluator: Geoff Pontes
Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 184 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 1 (LAA)
RuleV: 2022
Physical Description: Compact build, with good strength throughout and some natural twitch. Broad square shoulders, with a strong core. Likely to maintain conditioning but unlikely to be overly physical. Lacks projection physically.
Hit: Set square, lots of hand movement pre-pitch; bat wag pre-load, high leg lift timing mechanism. Short compact stroke with plus bat speed. Will get on base at an average rate, but there will be some swing and miss and chase mixed in. Below average approach overall, but he makes up for it with simple mechanics, a compact swing, and that loud bat speed. Shows the ability to make adjustments, but is ultimately hindered by his aggressive tendencies. Still an average hit with good contact skills and quality of contact. Grade: 50
Power: Power plays in game due to bat speed, and leverage. Hardest contact is almost exclusively to his pull-side. Looks to get out in front and drive pitches in the inner-half. Ambush fastball power that is compact enough to play versus velocity. Lacks the physicality to push the in-game power to above-average. Grade: 50
Field: Below average fielder that doesn't have a true home in the infield. Likely ends up at second where some of his footwork issues can be masked by positioning. Can play third or short in a pinch. Can rush through actions, hands are below average. Actions are inconsistent. Grade: 40
Arm: Average arm, enough to play on the led side of the infield. Certainly enough zip and carry for second base. Grade: 50
Run: Average runner, can add an extra gear when underway. Stretched balls in the gap to triples at times in college. Heads up base runner that will not be a determinant on the base paths. Grade: 50
Overall: Bat first infielder that may land as an offensive-driven utility type. The bat will play and it's the reason Wilson went in the first round back in 2019. Was a strong college performer, but struggled at times out the gate as a professional. The bat speed and his ability to make contact are not in doubt. How much impact he provides overall are, and do to a lack of supporting skills he must hit to earn a long term major league role.
