Apr 2021 Report
Evaluator: Trevor Hooth
Age: 23 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 3
RuleV: 2022
Physical Description: High waisted, albeit stocky, build. Lower half is thick, but there is room for some projection.
Hit: Even stance. Stands tall at the plate. Hands start up by his head. Small step load . Quick, fluid, and compact swing. Can cover the plate well. Shows good knowledge of the strike zone. Very patient, almost passive approach at the plate. Walk and strikeout numbers should be close at every level. Pull heavy approach. He hits a lot of fly balls, and with his lack of over the fence power that will result in low batting averages. He would benefit greatly from a more line drive approach. Grade: 50
Power: It's gap power at present, which is likely all it will ever be. With his speed, that will work out well. Most of it is pull side right now, but that very well could be a byproduct of his approach. At present it's safe to say he has below average power that could become fringe-average with less flyballs. Grade: 40
Field: Very smooth actions on the infield. Good reactions too. Can comfortably play anywhere on the dirt, the kind who can thrive in a super utility role. Grade: 50
Arm: Makes accurate throws from around the dirt. Arm strength can handle throws across the diamond. Grade: 45
Run: Average speed allows him to take an extra base if the defense allows it. He can get away with some steals too. Adds to his reactions for good range defensively. Grade: 50
Overall: Steer screams super utility-type profile. He can play all around the dirt with a high degree of proficiency. His bat to ball is good, his strike zone feel is there, but the power is not. His flyball tendency will limit his ceiling as a hitter, but he should still do enough at the plate to contribute. If he can adjust and lower his launch angle a tad, there might me more gap power for him.
