Evaluator: Geoff Pontes
Age: 20 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Round 6
RuleV: 2022
Physical Description: Medium build with lean frame. Looks heavier than listed weight, but still has room to add some weight to the frame.
Hit: Slightly open stance, slight bend at the knees. Hands start at helmet height, bat rotates in a circle. Long stride for a wide base to start the swing process. Quick hands at the plate. Expands the zone and can struggle to recognize pitches. Grade: 30
Power: The quick hands will generate some gap power, but he likely will be limited to that. With his speed, the gap power can play. He showed the ability for occasional home run pop at the rookie level. Grade: 30
Field: His great speed and ability to read the ball of the bat make him a plus defender that can easily handle centerfield. Grade: 60
Arm: As a pitching prep he touched low 90's on the mound. To a degree that arm carries over to the grass. More than enough arm to stick up the middle. Grade: 50
Run: Short, quick strides. Quick twitch athlete means easy plus speed if not more. Grade: 60
Overall: Hilson shows a lot of athletic ability that mostly surfaces on the defensive side of the ball. It's a glove-first centerfield profile, but he'll have to improve with the bat in his hand to climb the ladder. He's the kind of player where it could all click at once. He's got more than enough ability to stick in center if his bat will allow him.
