Jan 2021 Report
Evaluator: Jake Kerns
Age: 19 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 165 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft, Round 2
RuleV: 2023
Physical Description: Above-average height. Long levers. Strong hands. Has added good weight to his frame since signing, including upper body strength. He's retained his athleticism despite the added weight.
Hit: Slightly crouched and balanced stance. Hands stay high and back. Some pre-pitch bat movement. Keeps his weight on his back foot as he loads and transfers into his swing. Moderate leg kick. Linear swing that produces a lot of line drive contact. Shows plus bat speed during BP but would need to sacrifice some of his contact ability to get to it in-game. Has an understanding of the zone and shows an ability to lay off bad pitches. Timing on his swing is sometimes off, leading to parts of his body being out of sync and him being behind the pitch; growth with his pitch recognition will help. The current profile will come with his share of strikeouts. Grade: 45
Power: Average raw power with room to grow. The ball jumps off his bat during BP and his swing is designed to drive the ball to the gaps. Those balls will clear the fence as he continues to physically mature and create more leverage. Grade: 50
Field: Stays low and keeps the ball in front of him. Displays good footwork and an ability to get to difficult balls. Moves well laterally and can cover a lot of ground to his left. Shows a good backhand moving to his right. Above-average range. Physical maturation may move him off SS, but the eventual package will play at 3B. Has some recent experience with 2B, too. Grade: 55
Arm: Strong arm with plus carry across the diamond. High release point. Mostly accurate in looks from the amateur circuit, but the ball has a slight tendency to sail when throwing to 1B. Arm fits on the left side of the infield. Grade: 60
Run: Clocked above-average times in the 60 as an amateur. No recent looks. Grade: 55
Overall: Paris' profile has changed slightly since signing in 2019 largely due to his added strength and burgeoning power. Paris received positive reports from instructs, and there may be additional untapped potential with the stick. While it's a profile that doesn't necessarily lend itself to being a quick mover, the ultimate upside is that of a regular or more. He'll need to work to get there.
