Physical Description: Medium build, sloping shoulders. Lean build. Some room left for projection on the frame.
Delivery & Mechanics: High 3/4 arm slot. Low effort delivery. Starts square to the plate. Hands at belt height, raise up to his neck at the height of the balance. Leg kick is stomach high. Bend in the back leg as he extends out toward the plate. Body tends to pull off as rotates to throw. Finishes tall with no leg kick on the follow through.
Fastball: 93-95 T98. Plays up in the zone, especially with two strikes. Creates weak grounders when spotting it low in the zone. He goes through spurts where the pitch is all over the place, then he can consistently place it on the corners. With the velo, it makes it a tough pitch. More control would make it plus, but it's still an above average offering. Grade: 55
Curveball: 82-84. 1-7 movement. Can be a swing and miss weapon low in the zone. He can lose control of it, but when locked in he utilizes it in any count. Shows confidence, even when down in the count. More consistency could make this an average offering, but as is it's fringe. Grade: 45
Changeup: Decent fade and deception. Not used often. Can work well low in the zone. Might grade higher if used more often. Grade: 30
Control and Command: Berroa's control is all over the place. He posted high walk numbers and hit a high amount of batters. There are stints where he's dialed in, but it's inconsistent. He doesn't miss over the middle too often, but he is liable to miss out of the zone by a lot. This will be a big part of how far he advances through the Giants organization. Control: 30 | Command: 30
Overall: Berroa is a power arm with a power fastball and a high velo curveball and the velo comes easy. The 1, 2 punch can be a real weapon. He has a changeup that he flashes too. The real story of his career will be written by his ability to reign in the control. His power arsenal will likely mean he thrives best in the bullpen, but he'd still need to see improvements in control.
