Dec 2020 Report
Evaluator: Russ Peters
Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: Eligible
Physical Description: Medium sized frame, thick lower half, room to add strength and size.
Hit: Sets up with back elbow up and hands at neck level, slightly open stance, wide base with legs set more than shoulder width apart. Weight shifts to back foot with slight leg kick during load, swing could be quieted and more efficient with less unnecessary movement. Plus bat to ball skills which have led to lack of patience and putting balls in play that he would be better off letting go. There is definite potential for an above average hit tool but unless there is an approach change it will remain slightly below average. Grade: 45
Power: As noted above Mieses currently has a contact-oriented approach. His bat contains power as evident in batting practice but rarely gets to the right pitch to exhibit said power. Easy swing used to try to hit the gaps more than drive the ball out of the park. Adding in game power will likely be at cost of overall batting average but the power is there. Grade: 50
Field: Not the fastest guy on the field but played CF for his first couple of pro seasons. Profiles best as a corner OF with good instincts who can make all of the routine plays and maybe more. Grade: 50
Arm: Plus arm with good carry that would play in RF if the bat suits the position. Grade: 60
Run: Below average runner. May even slow down if bulk is added to the frame Grade: 40
Overall: Signed at 16 years old for $428,000 in the same signing class as Luis Robert but has yet to make his full season debut. Plus bat to ball skills combined with average in game power could lead to a 25 HR, .260 future big leaguer. Flaws in the overall approach and lack of flashing said power leave us wondering whether he can reach that ceiling. Mieses is only 20 but the clock is starting to tick on his ability to be more than an up and down or bench role type big leaguer.
