Physical Description: Tall, intimidating force on the mound. High-waisted. Thick core and quads.
Delivery & Mechanics: Stands tall on the mound, knees slightly bent. Pitches from the stretch. 3/4 slot. Falls off toward 1B. Cross-body release.
Fastball: Sits 92-94; averaged 93.3 in limited 2020 action. Two-seamer with some late arm-side run. Has below-average vertical and horizontal movement which leads to it getting hit too frequently, particularly against lefties. He hides it well against right handers. Keeps it around the zone, but gets hit hard when he isn't locating it. Made up 65% of his pitch mix in 2020. Grade: 55
Slider: Sits 82-84; averaged 83.2 in limited 2020 action. Solid depth; shows above-average vertical movement. Takes several forms; at times it's slurvy and other times it has cutter action.. Pitch plays down due to his inability to consistently hit his spots. Made up 35% of his pitch mix in 2020. Grade: 55
Control and Command: Control is ahead of command. He spots his fastball well in and around the zone, but his control of the slider is inconsistent. It often misses down, which has led to too high of a BB rate over the last several seasons. Control decreases as his confidence declines. Control: 45 | Command: 40
Overall: Elledge is a two pitch reliever who debuted in 2020 with limited success. Neither of his pitches are plus, and there are concerns about his ability to put batters away at the major league level. There are some concerning underlying splits over the last two seasons, calling into question his ultimate upside. It's a low-leverage relief profile, but he still has some work to do to avoid being stuck at the AAA level.
