Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 3

Physical Description: Short for the position. Average build. Lacks present upper body strength but has some room to grow. High-waisted.
Hit: Upright stance with knees slightly bent. Keeps hands high and left elbow back. Little pre-pitch movement. Small leg kick as he loads and steps into the pitch. Weight evenly distributed at contact. Level swing that generates line drive contact. Velocity can give him trouble down and on the inside half of the plate. Fights off pitches and shows an average eye. Barrels the ball but does not impact it. Strikes out too often. Grade: 40
Power: Below-average raw power. Mostly pull side. Makes soft contact which leads to a high-percent of singles. He has some physical projection and there is room for his in-game power to catch up to his raw power, but there's little indication he'll ever be a true power threat. Grade: 30
Field: Moves well in the field. Stays low on the ball and scoops it. Good backhander down the line. Has decent range laterally. Possesses solid awareness and makes the right play in the field. Grade: 50
Arm: He has some arm strength; sat mid-80s off the mound in HS. Gets the ball out quick. Grade: 50
Run: Fringe-average runner. Runs with some effort. May slow as he fills out. Not a threat to steal. Grade: 45
Overall: Naranjo has some room to grow, but none of his tools particularly stand out. He does not possess the power to profile at 1B and faces an uphill battle to reach the big leagues without hitting for more contact. He showed an intriguing collection of pitches off the mound as an amateur, but his velocity was below-average.
