Physical Description: Accomplished college arm, performed well on the Cape and pitched for Team USA. Was very noticed despite being at UC-Irvine. Shorter right-hander with lean, athletic frame. Limited physical projection remaining.
Delivery & Mechanics: Stands tall on the mound. Feet opened towards home. Steps back to begin inverted windup. Waist high leg kick with small hitch before very long arm action. Finishes strong over plant foot when things are in sync. Can drag arm at times and upset timing. High 3/4 release.
Fastball: Lives mostly 90-91, probably lives mid 90s in relief role. Touches 95 as a starter. Fastball is the key to everything. Looks to set up hitters by going up in the zone or away, and then get them to chase with something off the plate in the outer or upper quadrants. Above-average command of the heater. Leans on the pitch heavily. Grade: 50
Curveball: His putaway pitch against left-handers. Breaks off the plate towards their back foot and he gets them to swing over the top of it. Slider has a significant amount of horizontal movement. Can look like a cutter at times because it lacks consistent depth Grade: 40
Slider: Pitch has tremendous horizontal break, utilizes it like a cutter but it has slider shape. Primarily out pitch against lefties, starting over middle and breaking off the plate inside to get them to chase. Grade: 5
Changeup: Inconsistent pitch. Minimal arm side run and fade. Knows how to sequence and will throw it against either handed hitters. Command of pitch is poor. Grade: 40
Control and Command: Pumps strikes, but necessarily not the ones you want at all times. Doesn't have loud enough stuff to live in the middle, and instead needs to live on the black, or even slightly off it. Control: 50 | Command: 40
Overall: Not as great of a risk here because there's some polish. Pallante knows how to sequence and attack hitters at least one time through the order. Right on that line for me of long relief or starter. Must continue to pitch well off of the fastball.
