Age: 24 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 160 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2015 IFA
RuleV: Eligible
Physical Description: Wiry frame; squared shoulders, long arms, high waist, wide hips with long thighs and legs. Lacks definition throughout. Likely 10 lbs over list. Frame reminds me of Yordano Ventura.
Mechanics: Stretch-exclusive with a high 3/4 slot generated from a tilt-to-clear motion. Twitchy movements; struggles with repeatability. Hooking action yields plus arm speed yielding modest deception. Lacks downhill plane and gives hitters an early look out of the hand.
Fastball: 96-99 with modest arm side run; explodes out of the hand but struggles to command consistently. Pitch tends to get flat in the lower third and misses within the zone get barreled consistently. Double-plus velocity that likely plays more plus when considering the command and movement profiles. Grade: 60
Slider: 88-90 flashing above-average but sitting below average. Command is inconsistent; at its best, the offering flashes late bite beneath the zone as a chase pitch. More often, it lacks the necessary teeth entice hitters to swing and tends to nibble with it when throwing in the zone. Likely settles in at fringe-average long-term. Grade: 45
Control and Command: Fringe control with below average command. A relief profile all-the-way due to pitch mix and strike-throwing issues. Misses the glove with both offerings. Highly predictable sequencing with misses in the zone getting punished consistently. Walks will be an on-and-off problem long-term. Control: 45 | Command: 40
Overall: Peguero's impressive velocity continues to intrigue and he has played the opener role on multiple occasions in 2021. His ceiling is a middle relief arm out of the bullpen, but his command will need to show gains to realize that potential. More than likely, he's an up-and-down option with a chance to stick if he gets hot long-term which isn't out of the realm of possibility considering the volatility of bullpen arms.
