Physical Description: Large frame, Lean but strong and sturdy build. Toned: noticeable, muscular definition in forearms and solid strength throughout. Impressive athleticism. Modest room for additional growth/gains. Bloodlines: the son of Jose Cruz Jr and grandson of Houston Astros great Jose Cruz Sr.

Hit: Open stance; hands at the head; upright with a narrow base. Above-average bat speed. Quick to and through the ball with a level bat path; swing can get long at times -- yielding swing and miss against above-average or better secondaries. Modest pre-load waggle but relatively quiet; slight stride assisted toe tap timing mechanism and quick trigger. Contact oriented approach with a respectable amount of power. Aims to put the ball into play without sacrificing power. More than enough polish to handle the lower to mid-levels of minor league ball. Continued development with pitch recognition and improved consistency with driving the ball will be important moving forward. Grade: 40

Power: Bat speed and leverage in swings indicates future average power; Barrel control indicates an inconsistency in barreling up for power; however, can handle wood. Pitch recognition will need to develop in order to hit for power consistently. Line drive, gap hit type. Grade: 40

Field: Solid average fielder - good defensive habits. Clean and quick footwork; soft hands with solid transfers and good range that can play up anywhere in the infield. The game speeds up on him at times; errant throws and misreads on semi-difficult hops. Pro instruction should clear up some of these minor deficiencies, yielding an adequate and capable defender. Grade: 50

Arm: Arm strength is average, inaccurate throws, and inconsistent release make it a borderline fringy tool. Enough arm to handle the left side; could see him benefiting from a move to second base. Grade: 45

Run: Smooth runner out of the box, average speed. Playable speed for his position with good instincts on the basepaths. Grade: 50

Overall: Fringe-average to average parts that could evolve into a solid utility or role player. Comes out to play and his versatility and bloodlines will help him wherever Detroit decides to play him. If he can barrel up the ball consistently, he could surpass a 40 hit tool and tap into the raw power that he has.
