Physical Description: Athletic build; Wide shoulders with a long, thin waist. Muscular thighs and legs. Big hands. Not body type to add much weight or strength. Built like a wide receiver.
Delivery & Mechanics: Throws from a high 3/4 slot. Starts from the stretch with his back facing the first base side and drives his front front towards home. Long, loose arm action. Hand break, modest leg kick. Repeats delivery consistently; Balance throughout his delivery.
Fastball: Sits at 95-98 t100 with modest life in the zone. Throws downhill with natural tail & sink; Riding life at upper end of velocity. Whip-like life. His best pitch. Grade: 50
Slider: Primary secondary offering; 82-84. Fair bite. Does not use it much. Still learning, Caught in between CB and SL with some break. Grade: 50
Changeup: Lacks feel for pitch; Needs further development. Needs to develop to complement FB. Grade: 40
Control and Command: Commands FB both sides of the plate. Shows good control just a few seasons removed from playing shortstop. He can challenge hitters inside with his fastball. Slider needs to develop more in order to be a consistent second pitch. Flashes a changeup but have not seen it enough to be a consistent third pitch. Control: 55 | Command: 50
Overall: This is a very live arm that could be a steal for the Pirates. Continued development of his slider and changeup could make him a front tier starter. He is only 20 years old so he has time to develop those pitches to complement a very good plus fastball. Current sequencing of his two pitches could also put him as a high leverage reliever. He is new to pitching so he is extremely raw and could get better as he moves through their system.
