Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 160 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021
Physical Description: Above-average height. Signed with a slender build and has begun adding muscle to his frame. Heavier than his listed weight. Still offers some physical projection. Athletic. High character.
Hit: Has used several stances during his professional career and still appears uncomfortable in the box. He stands slightly crouched. and keeps his right elbow high and back. Moderate amount of pre-pitch bat movement prior to loading. Present iteration is more balanced pre-pitch than before but he has a noisy load. Uses an unorthodox timing mechanism where his hands work backwards in the load. His upper half is often out of sync with his lower half, which creates a hitch in the swing and hinders his bat speed. Bat speed is inconsistently average and wavers below that when he's out of sync. Struggles with velocity and often fails to make good contact. He gets under the ball with regularity and created a lot of fly outs in 2019. Strikeouts will be an issue until he finds a swing that works for him. In two abbreviated seasons, he's struck out at a 37% clip. He's athletic and has the aptitude to show growth with the tool, but he's notably raw. Grade: 40
Power: Flashes raw power to the pull-side but it mostly manifests itself to the gaps during games. He generates a good amount of leverage and natural lift off the bat, and has already begun getting the ball in the air. His ultimate power output will depend on his ability to consistently barrel the ball. There's average or better power here waiting to be unlocked, but his swing so far restricts it. Grade: 45
Field: Has fluid actions in the field. His speed helps him cover ground and he has close to plus range because of it. Still raw with his reads. Grade: 50
Arm: Strong arm that plays in all OF positions. Shows good carry from the grass and was on target in limited looks. Grade: 55
Run: Timed 4.30 down the line from the right side. His awkward swing leads to him being slow out of the box, but he's a plus straight-line runner once he hits his stride and demonstrates that once he's on base. He's capable of taking a base but can be slow with his breaks. Grade: 60
Overall: Deveaux is toolsy, but he's incredibly raw with the stick and is the type of prospect that might not make it out of A-ball because of it. On the flipside, he offers enough athleticism and aptitude to suggest he's capable of making the requisite changes. He needs to start with finding a swing that helps him drive the ball. He'll go as far as his bat takes him.
