Nov 2020 Report
Evaluator: Justin Lada
Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 2
RuleV: 2023
Physical Description: Tall and physical build with long levers. Muscular upper body and arms with broad shoulders. Already a physically impressive, maybe maxed out body as a prep draft pick. May get a little bigger. How much is added to the frame may have to be monitored to how it affects his ability to run and play in the field.
Hit: Even stance with slight back leg bend. Barrel over shoulder. Leg kick pre- load for timing mechanism with moderate weight transfer. Uses leg kick to drive power to his back leg and lower half. Good hip/hand separation. Still hands during weight transfer and works under the ball with the barrel. Attacks the ball out front. Will pull head down from pitch early. Uses hips and upper half well to match swing plane to pitch. Has above average bat speed needed to make up for long swing. Power over hit oriented bat and approach. Grade: 30
Power: Extension and bat speed yield loud and impressive double-plus raw. Power is heavy to the pull-side; power to the opposite field when he lets the ball travel. More than enough power to carry profile; hit tool deficiencies will have to shore up however to reach plus potential. Grade: 60
Field: Played three games at third in his brief pro exposure in 2019 and was a shortstop as an amateur. His build overall forced him to a corner in the pros. At short as an amateur he had already looked too tall but showed decent lateral quickness and inconsistent footwork. Hands showed inconsistent as well. It seems hard to believe he'll stay on the dirt long term. Looked much more natural charging balls as an outfielder than on the dirt Grade: 45
Arm: Up to 98 on the mound as an amateur. Plenty of carry on throws. Struggles with arm angles and consistency issues throwing and with accuracy. Footwork and accuracy issues need to be cleaned up to work at third base. Grade: 60
Run: Clocked at 7.09 in the 60 yard dash as an amateur and given build, wouldn't expect speed to be a stand out tool in his game. Athletic build overall but overall not going to steal many bases. Any weight added to the frame will bring this down as well as he's already 20 and basically physically maxed in many ways. Grade: 45
Overall: A chance to hit 35 home-runs annually in the majors will carry any hitter's profile. Hinds' top range of probabilities might be as a three true outcomes hitter who provides some defensive value in right field thanks to a plus arm. Valuable upside, but it will take top range of outcomes to make full impact of tools.
