Nov 2020 Report
Evaluator: Russ Peters
Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: B/R
Acquired: 2018 Draft - Round 6
RuleV: 2022
Physical Description: Tall, medium build. Strong, athletic and physical but not overly muscular or big. Possibility to add some bulk as he matures professionally.
Hit: Hands at shoulder height away from the body. Back elbow slightly raised with a fairly open stance. Feet a little more than shoulder-width apart. Base expands during swing. Traded a toe tap for a leg kick during the 2019 season which improved swing efficiency. Smooth stroke and patient hitting approach. Both left and right-handed swings appear very similar. Good feel for hitting from both sides of the plate but definitely has been more successful. Is more aggressive and drives the ball better as a left handed hitter. Controls bat well overall. Has had some issues with off-speed pitches so far as pro, which has led to a high strike-out rate. Expect some of that swing and miss to subside with more experience in pro ball. Proven to have adept strike zone awareness. Grade: 40
Power: Drives the ball to the gaps and makes some loud outs. Swing not geared for power at this point, more of a line drive and gap approach, occasionally will flash average power and drive one deep, should develop into fringe-average to average power. Grade: 40
Field: Soft hands, good instincts. Quick transitions. Doesn't move quite as well as you would like at SS. Somewhat limited range. Glove geared more for 2B at this point where the defense will be average. Grade: 50
Arm: Arm strength and accuracy to play short or 3B. Average to slightly above. Grade: 50
Run: Doesn't run well but makes up for it with good instincts and baseball IQ. Comes hard out of the box every time. Stole six bases in 70 games during the 2019 season. Speed is slightly below average and may even tick down as he matures. Grade: 40
Overall: Delgado reached full-season ball as a 19 year old and held his own. The glove and bat best profile at 2B or perhaps as a utility/bench player. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to blossom into everyday big leaguer if he can keep drawing walks and add some more pop to that swing.
