Physical Description: strong, boxy frame, broad shoulders with a strong lower half. Moderate athleticism and high level upper body strength.
Hit: Switch-hitter with different setups from each side of the plate. Starts open when hitting left handed, deep bend, almost toilet seat, busy hands, with a long, slow, and high leg lift trigger mechanism. As a right handed hitter, sets square to the pitcher, with very busy hands pre-load, it's a strong, quick swing, with less moving parts but less natural fluidity than his lefty stroke. The two swings share a common characteristic of being heavily hands driven. Doesn't tap much into his lower half, particularly right handed. Strong approach works deep into counts with limited swing and miss. Elite on-base skills, and strong quality of contact. No split issues, but stronger performance versus left handers. Above-average hit tool. Grade: 55
Power: Above-average bat speed, strong leverage swing and a bat path driven toward elevating. Consistently gets to power in games, driving the ball heavily to his pull-side from each side of the plate. Above average exit velocity and the metrics back the performance. Strong barrel control, limits bad contact, and despite loft and a heavy flyball approach he limits pop-ups. Stronger to his pullside from the left side of the plate but his power plays from both sides. Grade: 50
Field: Average fielder, good catch and throw type with strong receiving skills, but at times below average blocking. Working more from one knee during instructs. Likely to stick behind the plate, but more as steady defender than an above-average one. Grade: 50
Arm: Above average arm, with consistent sub-two second pop times. Accurate on throws to second. Has the arm to stick behind the plate. Grade: 55
Run: Below average runner, that will hustle out of the box. Not a base clogger, but speed may diminish over time. Not a part of his game. Grade: 40
Overall: Strong all-around catching prospect, with the bat to be one of the better offensive performers at the position. Strong combination of approach, contact, and power. Good build with enough athleticism for him to maintain civility behind the plate. Good catch and throw skills, and average framer. Should move fairly quickly, splitting time with Joey Bart.
