Physical Description: Athletic, thick bottom half but not a huge build. Uses pitchability to make up for lack of physicality.
Delivery & Mechanics: 3/4 arm slot, often works on third base side of the rubber. Turns his back slightly towards hitters during wind up. Hides the ball well and creates deception and gets good extension on pitches. Always appears in control of his body.
Fastball: Works 90-93 mph, extension makes the ball get on hitters even quicker with some arm side movement, very solid command strengthens pitch effectiveness. Grade: 50
Curveball: Third best pitch. Flashes average but often loose and loopy, however it is commanded well. Thrown back door to righties and as a chase to lefties. Point for potential improvement. Grade: 50
Changeup: Best pitch. Sinks and fades. Misses bats, induces weak contact and generates groundballs. Especially rough on right-handed batters. Grade: 55
Control and Command: Pounds the zone. Not afraid to throw strikes and challenge hitters. Consistently being around strike zone improves the overall pitch efficiency and helps steal strikes. Control: 55 | Command: 50
Overall: Allen has been outstanding at every level he has played. He was Florida HS Player of the Year, a three year starter at Florida International University and played on the Team USA Collegiate National Team. Fastball and change up work to keep hitters off balance and continuously guessing. Pounds the zone and limits hard contact, it's not overly flashy but it works, high floor, quick moving prospect, lack of velocity will likely limit the ceiling to the back end of a big league rotation if all goes well. A more realistic role for him is as a sport starter, long reliever/swing man type.
