Physical Description: Average height with a wiry frame. Not the most physically imposing athlete but has well-defined muscles in his arms and legs. Corbin Carroll is built similarly to a traditional NFL slot receiver.
Hit: Carroll has a simple pre-pitch set-up standing straight up with minimal movement. As the pitch is leaving the pitcher's hand he squats down, has a slight leg kick, and is short and direct with the bat. Carroll looks to hit the ball to all fields but is at his best when he is spraying hard line-drives in the gaps. possesses the ability to turn on a pitch inside and drive towards his pull-side. He has a level swing plane which will result in his fair share of line-drives. He shows great plate coverage with the ability to make consistent contact on pitches in the zone. He shows a plus understanding of the strike zone which will allow him to draw his fair share of walks. Carroll has a plus ability to read spin out of the hand, which allows him to not be fooled by breaking stuff. Carroll rarely strikes out thanks to his pitch-recognition and polished approach at the plate. Grade: 60
Power: Carroll has average raw swing-strength with plus bat-speed and a level swing path. There are some concerns on how he will be able to turn the bat-speed and swing-strength into over-the-fence power because of his linear swing plane. He does show average pull-side power from time to time. There is some slight projection in the frame and there are some swing-path adjustments that he can do to unlock more power. Grade: 50
Field: Carroll is a no-doubt centerfielder. He is equally adept at going forward on weak bloopers as he is going backward to collect balls hit at the warning track. Carroll reads the ball well off balls that hit off the outfield wall. He makes good reads off the bat and takes quick and efficient routes to the ball. He is able to move both to his left and his right to get balls in the gaps. He covers ground well thanks to his double-plus speed and has above-average range for the position. To go along with all of his physical gifts he has well above-average instincts which allow him to make the difficult plays in center. Grade: 60
Arm: He has more than enough arm for any spot in the outfield. His throws are accurate with good carry. He gets the ball in quickly to the infield when the ball is hit in the outfield. Grade: 55
Run: Easy double-plus runner. Underway Corbin is an electric athlete with a smooth stride and a good first step. He will be a stolen-base threat at the highest level because of his quick jump, his outstanding foot-speed, and his great feel for the game. If given the opportunity to run Corbin Carroll can easily surpass twenty stolen-bases in a full season, with the upside for more. Carroll's legs are an asset in all facets of the game, as a fielder in center-field, to help leg out infield singles, to go first-to-third on a routine hit, and as a stolen base threat. With his speed he is going to wrack up extra-base hits, extending singles into doubles and extending doubles into triples. Grade: 70
Overall: Corbin Carroll has the tools to be a very valuable big-league player with a long and fruitful career. He is a plus hitter who is a plus defender at a premium defensive position and will provide value as a base-runner thanks to his double-plus speed. To go along with Carroll's physical abilities he has a great feel for the game that will allow him to impact the game in a multitude of ways. The only thing holding him back from being a true five-tool player is the power projection. There is a top of the order hitter with the speed and hit tool combination to be one of the more electric hitters in the game of baseball.
