Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Jake Boes

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2015 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: On 40-man

Physical Description: 6'2" 215 pound frame appears accurate; well- proportioned and strong; wide, square shoulders with long arms. Wide hips and sturdy lower half and with no physical projection remaining. Average athleticism.

Delivery & Mechanics: Smooth mechanics from a high 3/4 arm slot with moderate effort; recently shortened arm action to minimize reach back but remains fluid. Glove comes high immediately after hand break but delivery lacks deception overall. Consistent mechanics with an average leg kick and consistent with plant foot; will head whack occasionally which will cause arm slot to near over the top. Holds runners nicely by varying time set and slide step.

Fastball: Pitch sits 92-94 t95 with arm side run away from LHB; recent move to the bullpen has unfortunately not increased velocity. Attacks all four quadrants of the zone; able to get swings and misses up in the zone. Fringe-average reliever velocity plays up due to ability to command. Grade: 50

Curveball: 75-77; fourth-best pitch; used rarely almost exclusively against right- handed batters. Lacks conviction. 11/5 action; lacks bite. Likes to throw early in counts. Grade: 40

Slider: 83-85; Inconsistent spin; sweeping action at times down and away to right-handed batters. Lacks late break; generates swings and misses when thrown down with good spin. Grade: 45

Changeup: 83-85 with consistent arm speed with fading action arm side. Flashes above average. Swings and misses vs LHB. Lacks ideal velocity. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Moves the fastball around the zone but will miss up occasionally; slider command inconsistent but able to throw strikes. Control: 55 | Command: 50

Overall: Middle inning reliever ceiling; more likely mop-up or long man out of the pen. No projection remaining; physically matured and fastball has had a modest decrease in velocity since draft night. Single inning relief outings may help fastball velocity. Curveball may be phased out if he works middle relief.
