Physical Description: Strong lower half with quick arm. Shows strong athleticism on the mound.
Delivery & Mechanics: Vertical release from a full-windup. Gets down the mound well.
Fastball: 87-89 with strong riding characteristics. Command for the fastball is his best pitch, above average. Shows good feel at the top of the zone. Grade: 55
Curveball: Above average spin characteristics. Pitch has added depth in the last couple years. Needs to show better command for it. Lots of swing and miss potential. Grade: 55
Slider: Slider is a half grade lower than the curveball. Mostly horizontal break. Differentiates itself off the fastball and curveball well. Command still an issue. Grade: 50
Changeup: Still developing feel for the changeup. Command is below average. Lacks depth. Grade: 40
Control and Command: Fastball command is average while the other three pitches struggle to land for strikes at times. Changeup command needs work. Control: 45 | Command: 40
Overall: Murray has a lot going for him in terms of pure stuff. His fastball velocity won't below anyone away, but the spin rates he generates are well, well above average. The heater really explodes and has a track record of playing up at the top of the zone. He's got similarly high-spin breaking balls that he's struggled to command, but have the potential to be above average pitches. If the command buoys closer to average, Murray has the arsenal to remain in a starting rotation.
