Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: B/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 4
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Well built, quick-twitch athlete. Listed at 6'. Noticeably more filled out as a pro. Strong forearms and thighs. Plays with moxie.

Hit: Switch-hitter with quick hands and plus bat speed from both sides. Mirror image, level swing. More of a contact hitter with gap power. Utilizes a leg kick as he loads, and his swing is fluid throughout. No hitch. Looks more comfortable and makes better contact from the right side in BP; no discernible difference in- game. Tracks the ball and has a solid understanding of the zone. Takes big, long cuts but adjusts well while working the count. Regularly barrels the ball from both sides. Grade: 50

Power: Swing not geared for power but has the natural strength and bat speed to hit the ball out of the park. Needs to better utilize his hips and lower body. Strong forearms and thighs give him more power projection than he has so far shown. Grade: 45

Field: Played SS and 2B in his first year in the pros. Tools are more suited for 2B. Plays with some bounce which allows for good reaction times. Moves well laterally. Solid range. Charges and gets low on the ball. Good at getting the ball out of the glove and to 2B. Has good footwork, particularly when making the turn at 2B. Grade: 55

Arm: Does well adjusting the angle of his throws to the situation. Mostly sidearm from 2B. Good transfer from the glove allows him to get the ball out quick. Overall an average arm that profiles better at 2B. Grade: 50

Run: Quick out of the box. Plus times down the line and in the 60. Hustles and moves faster than it looks. Smart runner. May slow in the future. Grade: 60

Overall: Near average across the board. His understanding of the strike zone and his bat speed should allow him to hit for average. Will need to work to reach his power potential. Should stick at 2B and could slide to SS in a pinch given his experience with the position. Physically looks like a big leaguer, but the bat will need to play to get there.
