Dec 2020 Report

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 3
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Short and wiry frame on the mound. Small arms and lower half. Despite his small size, has an athletic frame. Good definition to his shoulders and upper half. More room for growth and maturity.

Delivery & Mechanics: Semi windup and with a 3/4 arm slot delivery. Works his approach from the from the left side of the rubber. Whippy arm action with a high right leg kick from his shortened windup. Good extension and follow through, sound mechanics for a prep arm. Has a good feel for off-speed.

Fastball: Low-to-mid-90s offering with arm-side run. Fastball touches 95-96, sits 92-93 consistently. Forces weak contact, lacks swing-and-miss capabilities. Solid offering in his arsenal. Grade: 50

Curveball: Mid-70s curveball that he utilizes well. Good break inside on righties, thrown as first pitch for called strikes. Sharp depth gives it late life, forces whiffs. Thrown with good extension, above average off-speed pitch. Grade: 55

Slider: Low-to-mid-80s slider that shows signs of improvement. Lacks consistent horizontal depth. Behind development to his curveball. Good velocity and control. Needs more refinement, shows potential of a solid third pitch. Grade: 50

Changeup: Low-80s changeup that needs more development. Rarely thrown in his arsenal. Shows bits of fade and run, but lacks consistency. Stays firm in the zone. Needs more repetitions to become effective. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Average control and command in his first pro season. Picks his spots and hits the zone for strikes. Has a good feel for his curveball and slider. Solid mechanics helps his ability to throw quality strikes. Control: 55 | Command: 45

Overall: Dalquist may lack the eye-opening size and velocity, but his command and control continues to improve. He has a good feel for his four-pitch arsenal and continues to develop physically. If his velocity ticks up along with his off-speed, he can shoot up the White Sox's system.
