Evaluator: Tyler Henninger

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 204 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2015 Draft, Round 2
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Solid, compact build with overall body strength. Extremely athletic with athlete bloodlines. Solid build for size, no projection left. Works hard, competitor.

Hit: Slightly closed stance, hands high at the head. Body upright, slight forward lean with feet shoulder width apart. Minimal hand load with small toe tap. Average bat speed with a linear path. Shows ability to use whole field. Good bat to ball skills. Patient hitter with good knowledge of strike zone. Infrequent quality contact, hits too many groundballs. Struggles with advanced spin, overmatched by FB inside. Grade: 45

Power: Fringe-average raw power. Approach and bat path sap game power to below average. Power predominantly to pull-side. Shows ability to drive mistakes. Will have to rely on finding the gaps and utilizing speed for his XBH. Grade: 40

Field: Able to handle routine plays. Hard hands. Waits back on GB. Slow release, although shows potential with quick pivots. Footwork lacking now, athleticism makes up for it. Ranges well to both sides. Will get better, still learning how to play INF. Grade: 40

Arm: Below-average velocity; lacks ideal carry at times. Prohibits ability to make highlight-reel plays. High arm slot, rarely changes angle. Most times on target. Grade: 40

Run: Above-average speed. Long, powerful strides. Gets out of the box well. Type of speed that makes defense rush. Ability to turn soft groundballs into infield hits. Needs to learn how to translate to SB ability. Grade: 55

Overall: There is no doubt Jones is extremely athletic. It's the reason he has been able to switch positions and go through multiple swing changes, but he lacks any standout tools. His patience and bat to ball skills will allow him to be a fringe-average hitter. Needs to make more consistent quality contact, eliminating the excess of weak groundballs. Won't provide much power due to lack of loft and groundball approach. Struggled when he tried to lift the ball. Could produce XBH by using gaps and above average speed. Needs to learn how to transfer speed into stolen bases. A lot to learn defensively, but will get more comfortable with reps. Arm strength lacks, but is playable for the position. Athleticism will allow him to be at least serviceable on the dirt. Likely just a bench or utility guy.
