Monte Harrison - CF Miami Marlins

Monte Harrison

Age: 23 (8/10/95)

Bats/Throws: R/R

Height/Weight: 6'3" 220 lbs.

Pos: CF

Team/Level/League: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp/AA/Miami Marlins

Body/Athleticism:

Physical specimen. Chiseled body. Built like a linebacker. Oozes athleticism. Quick twitch with explosive movements.

Stance:

Minimal pre-load hand movement. High leg kick.

Hit Tool:

20/40 - Long swing with a pull heavy approach. Struggles to pick up spin. Susceptible to off-speed away. Indecisive, often late on FBs and out front on off-speed. Expands the zone and runs out of bat on pitches away. Easy bat speed. Hit tool may improve with increased reps and change in stance. Doesn’t need leg kick to generate power due to plus bat speed and sheer strength.

Game Power:

40/60 - Game power at present limited by lack of contact. Plus bat speed and strength should run into double-digit HR. Peak power could play to 70 with improved approach but advanced pitchers should have no problem keeping him in the park.

Raw Power:

70/70 - Impressive size, strength, and bat speed. Puts on a show. Majestic HR in batting practice to all fields.

Speed:

65/65 - Athletic runner, quick first step. Gets to full speed in CF within 2-3 steps. No home-to-first times in 2 looks due to lack of GB contact but he moves well and the athleticism shows.

Defense:

60/60 - Quick first step, good reads off the bat. Speed/athleticism allow him to cover a lot of ground. Grades play up at the corners where he would be a Gold Glove caliber.

Arm:

80/80 - Accurate throws from deep in CF show carry and zip. Likes to show arm off. Good utilization of lower half but even throws on the move are missiles.

Overall:

45 - Low risk to reach 45 due to 4 plus tools but ultimately the hit tool will determine future role. Fun to watch. If he can improve the approach and make more consistent contact, the tools will play at the Major League level, flashing potential 50-55 at peak. However, the long swing with poor pitch recognition skills could limit his effectiveness to a 4th OF/AAAA player. Athletically, he should improve with increased reps and may be a late bloomer.
