Vidal Brujan - 2B Tampa Bay Rays

Vidal Brujan

Age: 20 (2/9/98)

Bats/Throws: S/R

Height/Weight: 5’9” 165 lbs.

Pos: 2B

Team/Level/League: Charlotte Stone Crabs/High A/Florida State League

Body/Athleticism:

Small frame. Athletic, wiry build with projectable strength. Well put together for size. Strong wrists/forearms.

Hit Tool:

40/60 - Aggressive, free-swinging pull approach. Turns it loose w/ each swing. Plus barrel control/bat speed leads to consistent pull-side hard contact. Struggles on breaking stuff away. Will swing over off-speed away and out of the zone. Gets to front foot a little too quick which minimizes strong lower half. Hit tool will improve with reps and opposite field approach.

Game Power:

45/55 - Emerging game power for a smaller/leadoff type hitter profile. Plus bat speed. Swing has natural loft/launch and could lead to potential 20-25+ HR at peak. Consistent utilization of lower half will also lead to increased fly ball rate. Power should continue to develop due to build/projection. Does not miss pitches on inner half.

Raw Power:

50/55 - Game power may exceed natural raw power at peak. Swing has consistent loft with pull approach. Power comes from strong wrists and bat speed.

Speed:

80/80 - 3.9 home-to-first from LH box. Accelerates quickly. Hyper-aggressive on basepaths. Loves to apply pressure on defense and take extra bases.

Defense:

45/50 - Quick first step allows for above-average range. Struggles with reads off the bat, especially on balls hit to right. Increased reps should improve defense to average and keep him up the middle. Hands occasionally stiff. May benefit from move to OF.

Arm:

50/50 - Quick release on double-play turns. Throws have carry and zip when body is moving away from first.

Overall:

60 - Athletic, speedy middle infielder that can stick at 2B. May benefit from move to CF where athleticism and speed would shine. Emerging power could lead to potential 20 HR/40 SB seasons. Hit tool is the weakest tool at the moment due to aggressive, free-swinging pull approach, but should improve with reps due to plus bat speed and barrel control. 80-speed burner. Potential All-Star calibre player. Enjoyable to watch, given power-speed combo. Will become a fan favorite.
