1. Marco Luciano, SS - 60 OFP
Age: 20 Highest Level: A+
2021 Pre-season Rank: 1 Pre-season OFP: 55
Hit | Power | Field | Arm | Run | Risk |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
55 | 60 | 45 | 55 | 40 | Moderate |
PHYSICAL Has plenty of room to add more strength to his frame. Stands tall with a surprisingly wiry frame. Has substantial room to fill out in the upper body, and in the lower half.
STRENGTHS Can hit the ball out of any part of a ballpark, showing power to all fields. Generates that power thanks to tremendous bat-speed, good raw strength, and loft to his swing. Makes solid contact and will make more than enough contact to tap into his power. Shows a solid eye at the plate, which should only get better as he matures and works on the craft of hitting. Above-average plate-coverage skills and shows an ability to take the ball the other way when pitchers pitch him outside. Good accurate arm that should help him as he transitions off of short, possibly to third base or right field.
WEAKNESSES Not overly explosive, and that shows when he is in the field and as a base-runner. Struggles with getting to balls deep in the hole when occupying short, and his lack of lateral agility hurts him on balls that he has to go get. As a base-runner he isn’t much of a threat to push for the extra base or steal a base because of his lack of explosiveness.
SUMMARY Struggled in a brief cameo in High-A and the Fall League but getting there as a 19-year-old is impressive in itself. Has allayed some of those worries with early 2022 performance. There is a 60 OFP player here because of his combination of hit tool and power, which both could get even better as he gets more seasoned and adds more muscle. Needs to improve the glove if he wants to stay at short. His field grade reflects him as a shortstop, but when he moves off the position he should be more than adequate in an outfield corner or third base. Has all the makings of a middle-of-the-order run producer at the highest level.

2. Luis Matos, OF - 55 OFP
Age: 20 Highest Level: A
2021 Pre-season Rank: 4 Pre-season OFP: 50
Hit | Power | Field | Arm | Run | Risk |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
55 | 55 | 55 | 50 | 60 | High |
PHYSICAL Good frame to continue to dream on, stands at a decent height with room to fill out especially in the upper-body which could only add to the raw power. Twitchy-athlete who moves well. Short arms but that allows him to stay compact.
STRENGTHS Shows above-average plate coverage and can get to nearly any pitch in the zone. Quick and explosive swing withenough bat-speed to catch up to velocity and hit for power. Above-average game power due to combination of loft in his swing, plus bat-speed, and above-average bat-to-ball skills. Above-average defender in centerfield with his plus speed, and efficient routes. Chance to develop into a plus defender there with more reps. On the basepaths he makes good jumps because of his explosiveness which will allow him to be a base-stealing threat as he continues to climb up the ladder. Also uses his speed on the basepaths to leg out extra-base hits.
WEAKNESSES Hyper-aggressive approach, swinging early and often. Does not look to draw walks. Mostly good swing decisions, however more advanced pitchers may sequence against him to take advantage of his aggressiveness. Pitchers with good fastballs can attack him up in the zone and get him to swing-and-miss, but that should be able to be cleaned up as he gets more experience against premium stuff.
SUMMARY There are a bunch of different ways in which Luis Matos can impact a game thanks to his feel for contact, power, speed and glove. If he can work on being slightly more selective at the plate that would only be a benefit to him. Overall, there is a future above-average big leaguer here because of all the ways he can impact the game, not a five-tool talent but very close making him one of the better prospects in the minors.

3. Kyle Harrison, LHP - 55 OFP
Age: 20 Highest Level: A
2021 Pre-season Rank: 7 Pre-season OFP: 50
Fastball | Slider | Changeup | Command | Risk |
---|---|---|---|---|
60 | 60 | 50 | 45 | High |
92-95 mph | 81-84 mph | 82-85 mph |
PHYSICAL Average height and build, long skinny limbs, wide shoulders, high waisted. Lots of projection remaining to add strength and lean muscle. Compact coil on leg lift, drops down low driving to the plate, long hooking arm action leads to a low 3/4 release. Repeats delivery very well, overall operation creates uncomfortable at-bats for opposing hitters.
STRENGTHS An overall metric darling. Entire arsenal has above average movement horizontally due to his low-release and follow through. Electric fastball with cutting action, absolutely eats whiffs up in the zone. Slider is the best offspeed pitch with sweep, has low spin but it plays up due to Harrison’s tunneling ability. Change up is still raw but showcased over 18 in of HB and a 45% whiff rate in his first pro season. Profiles well to work off his fastball.
WEAKNESSES Harrison is still young and stereotypically, has control and command issues. Thrived in 2021 purely from his overpowering mix of pitches but he ran out nearly 5 walks per 9 innings. An improvement with the overall strike throwing ability and quality strike throwing will allow Harrison to pitch deeper into games and more efficiently per at-bat.
SUMMARY Harrison is an exciting arm who has a lot to build off of after a dominant debut season. The delivery and arsenal have shown to give hitters fits and can only develop even further. The next step for Harrison is to maintain his stuff while improving command.

4. Joey Bart, C - 50 OFP
Age: 24 Highest Level: MLB
2021 Pre-season Rank: 2 Pre-season OFP: 55
Hit | Power | Field | Arm | Run | Risk |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
45 | 55 | 55 | 60 | 40 | Moderate |
PHYSICAL Muscular, sturdy frame with well-proportioned strength. Physical upper body with broad shoulders and thick, strong thighs in his lower half. Reached physical maturity, no projection needed in the body.
STRENGTHS Confident performer on both sides that can make an immediate contribution at the MLB level. Strength and physicality translates offensively with lots of pull-side power when squared. Solid leverage and intent in the path, and it shows. Has shown more patience at the plate this year. Above-average receiver behind the dish at a premium position. Moves well laterally for his size with softer hands and a solid pop time. Plus arm strength able to nab runners on the move. Fires it out of a cannon. Lots of physical tools at his disposal.
WEAKNESSES Questions remain on just how much he can hit at the MLB level. Feasts against heat middle-in and up, but has struggled and gets long against spin. Really aggressive approach can lead to inconsistent results and whiffs. Parts of that were exposed in his big league debut in 2020. Needs to find more consistent ways to get on base. Below-average runner that won’t be much of a threat on the paths. Has made strides defensively, but still has room for growth in his blocking and receiving ability.
SUMMARY Bart has a clear opportunity at the major league level as an everyday catcher this season. Time till tell if everything comes together for him. The physical tools and improvements defensively are hard to ignore. He produces loud contact when squared and has a true plus arm behind the dish with the defensive growth along with it. But his bat will have to improve at the MLB level in order to fulfill a significant role with the Giants.

5. Will Bednar, RHP - 50 OFP
Age: 22 Highest Level: A
2021 MLB Draft Rank: 16
Fastball | Slider | Changeup | Command | Risk |
---|---|---|---|---|
55 | 55 | 40 | 50 | Moderate |
96-99 mph | 85-87 mph | 87-89 mph |
PHYSICAL Durable, broad-shouldered frame. Thick and strong lower half. Improved core physical maintenance would improve his flexibility needed for his delivery. Utilizes a drop-and-drive delivery with a 3/4 arm slot. Strong, fiery competitor on the mound. Has baseball bloodlines with his older brother David pitching for the Pirates.
STRENGTHS With slightly above average velocity, Bednar has a fastball that has ride and arm side run and plays well up in the zone with good command. Possesses a high spin slider with late sweep and more than enough vertical break. Devastating on the back foot of a left hander and away from right handed hitters. The sweep of the slider going glove side tunnels well off of the fastball’s arm side ride. Controls both pitches at an above-average rate and overall.
WEAKNESSES Fastball is above-average but could be more explosive in velocity with improved conditioning and mobility in his delivery. Bednar’s changeup has the makings of an average pitch with some tumble and arm side run, but he struggles to get the movement to be consistent and lacks control of the pitch. There is some effort in his delivery.
SUMMARY Bednar already has two above-average pitches that potentially could be plus offerings, especially in the bullpen. He commands both pitches at an average rate but the changeup is lagging behind both quite a bit. Needs to develop the third pitch to turn lineups over and stay a starter. The delivery could be improved with San Francisco's ability to develop pitchers and some maintenance for Bednar. There’s relief risk here but there’s also a good amount of rotation upside, especially with what the Giants have done with pitching and Logan Webb, who has a similar build, delivery and pitch mix. If Bednar is forced into the bullpen, he should thrive as a reliever.
