Harris Yudin's Live Looks: UNC-Florida State, 5/19

Alberto Osuna, DH, North Carolina

Osuna provided the lion’s share of the offense for Carolina Thursday evening, driving in six of the team’s seven runs. He helped the team jump out to an early 4-0 lead with a three-run blast well past the left field fence. The Heels failed to push another run across until they were down to their final strike in the bottom of the ninth, when Osuna reached out and muscled a 1-2 breaking ball over the wall in left-center to walk it off. The multi-homer game gives him 18 on the season– the 2022 team lead and tied with former 1B Aaron Sabato for the most in a Carolina uniform this century. Osuna should hear his name called on Day 2 in July.

Danny Serretti, SS, North Carolina

Serretti quietly collected three hits Thursday evening, including an RBI double to open up the scoring in the first. The switch-hitting infielder has been on fire lately, with 21 hits in his last nine games, and now boasts a .372 average and an OPS just shy of 1.000 for the season. The fourth-year player offers little in the form of power or speed, but his plate approach and on-base skills give him an intriguing offensive profile nonetheless. Despite middling range, he offers smooth actions and incredibly reliable hands at shortstop. Currently ranked 380th on Prospect Live’s Top 500 list, Serretti could make a push to be a top-10 round selection.

Jordan Carrion, SS, Florida State

Carrion showed off his skills on both sides of the ball in Game 1 against Carolina. The Florida transfer made quality contact in all four of his plate appearances, including collecting two of Florida State’s 11 base hits. His power is incredibly limited – he got ahold of a Davis Palermo fastball in the eighth, but left fielder Mikey Madej was able to make the grab up against the wall – but the draft-eligible sophomore has displayed strong contact and on-base skills in his first season in Tallahassee, as well as the ability to make an impact on the basepaths. He is sure-handed at short with an incredibly strong arm– although he sailed a throw over his first baseman’s head in the second inning on Thursday.

Brett Roberts, 2B, Florida State

Roberts walked away from Thursday’s series opener against Carolina with little to show for several hard-hit balls. He lost an extra-base hit – and a surefire RBI – in the second inning on a Vance Honeycutt diving grab, and smoked a line drive directly to second baseman Colby Wilkerson in the sixth. Roberts, Prospect Live’s 255th-ranked draft prospect, has struggled a bit in his first season at Florida State and lacks a standout tool, but he’s athletic with a quick bat and is a solid defender up the middle.
