LIVE Rumor Updates: MLB Draft Day

Information is changing by the hour and we’re using this space to post the latest we’ve learned from our sources. This will be a live post with the most recent information at the top. All times are east coast.

UPDATES

7:03 PM: Zac Veen and Kansas City may not be a match afterall. 11th hour re-negotiations are possibly in the works.

6:47 PM: Jared Kelley is a name that is plummeting off draft boards. He may not even be a day one pick anymore. He’s very sign-able, but doesn’t mock well. Watch for his name 40-45.

6:33 PM: With the changes potentially coming at no. 2, Emerson Hancock is suddenly getting helium at no. 4 to KC.

6:29 PM: Nick Gonzales and Heston Kjerstad, as well as Zac Veen are still very much in play at no. 2…

6:24 PM:. Hearing Justin Foscue is the pick at thirteen to San Francisco. Certainly a surprise but tracks with the earlier reports that he was in play with multiple clubs in the top 25.

6:14 PM:. Looks like the Angels are backing off the rumor they would punt pick ten. Now heavily linked to Louisville lefthander Reid Detmers. Still the biggest question mark in the first half of the draft.

4:54 PM: Garrett Crochet is all but a lock to go no. 11 according to multiple sources. Austin Hendrick also looking like a strong possibility at 21 to the Cardinals.

3:58 PM: Pretty substantial rumors of a Dax Fulton-Landon Knack combo at 30/39 for Baltimore. Would ultimately finalize the idea that Austin Martin goes no. 2.

1:11 PM:. Looks like Sabato at 14 is a done deal. The first surprise of the mid-first round which may be a turbulent group of picks. Similar rumors around Oregon prep righthander Mick Abel to Boston at 17.

12:49 PM:. The zeal behind certain teams being in better positions to sign UDFAs is overblown at this point. I've talked to probably ~100 of the prospects ranked in the 200-500 range in this class. Only 3 of them are willing to sign as UDFA, and two of those guys are 22 years old.

12:24 PM:. Hearing Texas Tech’s Clayton Beeter is in play as high as pick 20 to Milwaukee.

12:05 PM:. Updating an earlier note on this post Jared Jones has been heavily rumored to Chicago at 16, and is very much in play. Tampa Bay, Minnesota, and the Dodgers are all said to have interest in the California native.

11:37 AM:. Hearing from multiple sources that Picks one, two, and three are set. Locked in are Tork 1.1 to Detroit, Martin 1.2 to Baltimore, and lefthander Asa Lacy to Miami at 1.3. This on the heels of this morning’s earlier report of a Martin+Bitsko combination at pick two and thirty.

10:51 AM:. Multiple sources including Kiley McDaniel of ESPN and Baseball America are reporting that a combination of Austin Martin at pick two and Pennsylvania prep righthander Nick Bitsko at pick thirty is in play for the Orioles first two selections this evening. That’s estimated in the neighborhood of $10,000,000 to $11,000,000 in pool dollars between their first two picks. However, with the draft’s largest bonus pool at $13,894,300 there’s still plenty of cash (estimated $2,900,000 to $3,300,000 in remaining money) to land talent at picks 39, 74, 103, and 133.

10:32 AM.: Teams are moving off of Austin Hendrick, currently he’s projected to go in the 20s by several contacts we spoke with. Questions around the Pennsylvania slugger’s hit tool are a bigger concern than anticipated.

10:21 AM.: Couple of updates, Aaron Sabato is now heavily rumored to Texas at 14. Previously he was thought to be at earliest a late first rounder.

10:07 AM.: Multiple teams within the Top 25 are rumored to be heavily connected with Justin Foscue. Very likely a first rounder at the moment.

9:59 AM.: Colorado is being heavily tied this morning to Tyler Soderstrom and reports per Baseball America mention the Rockies being heavily linked to hitting at pick nine.

Draft Day

11:14 p.m.: Coastal Carolina RHP Chase Antle is in play in the fifth and possibly earlier as a cash saving under slot.

10:52 p.m.: Carson Tucker underslot at 17 to Boston. Must mean Abel and Crochet are off the board.

10:48 p.m.: The Orioles very much have New Mexico State second baseman Nick Gonzales in play at 2 as they search for the right formula of pool money between picks 2, 30, and 39.

10:37 p.m.: The Mariners prefer Georgia righthander Emerson Hancock to Minnesota righthander Max Meyer or prep slugger Zac Veen.

10:11 p.m.: Sounds like Arizona might be a landing spot for Bryce Jarvis. Not sure if that’s at 18 or 33 however.

9:45 p.m.: Masyn Winn might be in play at 20 to the Brewers.

9:08 p.m.:The Cardinals may be in on Arizona catcher Austin Wells at 21.

8:05 p.m
.: Jordan Walker is absolutely in play. There are still teams who believe he’s sign-able and considering him early on. Depends how the draft shakes out. He’s in the budgets.

5:11 p.m.: While likely not a day one pick, Hayden Cantrelle is receiving a lot of interest from the Dodgers and Red Sox.

4:45 p.m.: Jared Jones may sneak into the Top 20. There’s one team in particular that has his name circled in the 15-20 range. He’s very much looking like a Top 40 pick.

3:11 p.m.: Justin Foscue is likely a first round guy. He’s receiving a late charge from the Twins and Cardinals.

2:24 p.m.: ‘Tink’ Hence is shooting up draft boards and the expectation is he will be selected on Day One, if not very shortly thereafter.

10:42 am.: The Los Angeles Angels are reportedly considering punting their first round selection. The pick would be Harvard-Westlake SS Drew Bowser. He would be offered 40% of the slot value ($1.9 million) with the expectation he would turn it down.
