Rhys White here. Thank you to everyone who has subbed to our new site. I am very excited about this, and Smada has been working his tail off behind the scenes to make it happen. This new site opens up a lot for us, and I can’t thank everyone who has subbed enough!
Thayron Liranzo, DH DET (Grapefruit League) 0-for-1, 3 BB
That is one way to get on base. Three walks for the talented catching prospect. I am excited to see him and the young crop of hitters the Tigers have coming up with Max Clark and Kevin McGonigle. The dream with Liranzo is that he develops into a middle-of-the-order bat who hits 25-28 homers and remains a catcher.
Andrew Morris, RHP MIN (Grapefruit League) 2 IP, B, K
Cory Lewis, RHP MIN (Grapefruit League) 2 IP, H, BB, 2 K
The depth in the Twins rotation came out and pitched rather well. Both of these guys could collect a handful of starts each. Andrew Morris gets a more conventional manner, with a typical four-pitch mix to get his outs. His cutter got 2 of his four whiffs. Now, onto the good stuff, Cory Lewis, who got five whiffs by way of the knuckleball. 84 mph knuckleballs are crazy to me, but hey, it gets whiffs. I wish he would lean more into the knuckleball and push that bad boy to 50% usage.
Will Warren, RHP NYY (Grapefruit League) 3 IP, 4 K
The former Southeastern Louisiana arm has a chance to provide some innings for the Yankees this year. The rotation for the Yankees is complete at the moment, so much so that Stroman and the Yankees are having issues, let's call it. It mostly stems from Stroman wanting to pitch enough innings that his option vests and the Yankees wanting anything other than that. Warren's sinker and slider combo gives him a high floor, and he has enough other pitches to maneuver through a lineup once or twice. The best way for him to contribute to the Yankees this year is by being part of a trade or pitching out of the bullpen in a long-relief role.
Sean Burke, RHP CWS (Cactus League) 2 IP, H, BB, 2 K
For those not in the know, there was no player drafted more than Sean Burke in the Prospects Live Dynasty Startup we did than Sean Burke. I drafted him two times, and at one point, while we were waiting to do the prospect portion of the draft, Sean Burke was the placeholder for Roki. Sean Burke should be a solid back-of-the-rotation starter for a normal team, the ace for the White Sox. Nothing will blow you away, but he can mix and match his way through a lineup with solid to above-average pitches. At his best, he is probably a nice streaming option.
Hagen Smith, LHP CWS (Cactus League) IP, H BB, 3 K
Getting all three outs by way of the strikeout is pretty sweet. The fastball was up to 98, and the slider looked disgusting; he collected 4 whiffs and only threw the slider 11 times, so not a lousy donkey, not bad. I will be interested to see how aggressive the White Sox are with him and Noah Schultz specifically because there are only so many bullets in the chamber, and I would just rather those pitches be at the big league level, even if they are both slightly underbaked as prospects.
