Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: James Chipman

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Well proportioned. Broad shoulders that slope; long neck; strong upper body and core; strong, thick lower half stabilizes delivery. Plus athlete; smooth, low effort actions. Minimal projection remaining. Recent 80-game suspension for PED (Stanozolol).

Delivery & Mechanics: Full windup; drop and drive delivery. High 3/4 arm slot with above-average arm speed and moderate effort. Long stride and extended release; mechanics sap away optimal downward plane; modest deception from leg kick and hand break. Athletic enough to repeat mechanics fairly well; more fluid from the stretch.

Fastball: Sits 90-93 t95; rests higher around 94-97 in shorter bursts. Manipulates the movement well, shows modest tailing action and heavy sink when it's pounded in the lower third of the zone. Above-average command. Shows confidence spotting it to both sides of the plate; routinely pounds it inside and up in the zone as a chaser. Solid average offering that should play up in a bullpen role. Grade: 50

Curveball: Hard breaker between 80-83. Tight 11/5 action with sharp late break at its best. Inconsistent shape and feel; shows less optimal slurvy depth at times. Willing to throw it in any count; just lacks consistent bite. Challenges hitters in and out of the strike zone late in counts. Overall an inconsistent but solid average pitch. Grade: 50

Changeup: Maintains arm speed; has moderate feel; lacks consistency. Flashes average with late tumble, fade and optimal velocity around 81-83. Sporadically shows up below-average firm and flat; blending with FB. Solid enough to keep LHB honest. Enough athleticism and feel to reach average. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Average control; Fringe-average command. Aggressive strike thrower early in the count; nibbles often prolonging ABs. Sequences well and attacks all four quads of the strike zone. Confident working inside and up in the zone. Above-avenger FB command; secondary pitch command is fringy at best. Control: 50 | Command: 45

Overall: Frustrating profile. Signed for $4.75M back in 2016 and it's been a slow burn developmentally for Gutierrez. Unfortunately the past mid-rotation ceiling now features just modest back of the rotation hope. The regression largely in part to his secondary pitches playing closer to average than their past promise of plus. Rule V eligible this December, the 25-year-old also faces an 80-game PED suspension next season. The window isn't closed, but Gutierrez is without question behind the eight ball. Backend SP ceiling; more realistic outcome is a solid long reliever or low leverage guy that bridges the gap.

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 217 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 6
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Tall and sturdy. Muscular back. Thick core and lower body. Country strong. Composed and confident. Bulldog mentality. Maxed out. High character.

Delivery & Mechanics: Delivery notably different since draft day; currently 3/4 slot. Inconsistent release point. Some effort. Aggressive. Falls off toward 1B. Hides the ball well against RHB.

Fastball: Consistently 92-95, touches 97 as a starter. Trackman data shows 93.5 average velocity. Might have more in the tank in shorter bursts as he flashed 99 as an amateur. Pitch shows some natural arm-side run. Inefficient pitch with 2600+ spin rate but comparatively little vertical movement. Gets swings and misses but may get hit harder by better competition due to lack of vertical break. Relies on the pitch. Offers some additional projection given the high spin rate; just needs to become more efficient. Grade: 55

Slider: Trackman darling with a 2700+ spin rate. Data shows 84.4 average velocity. Wraps it. Gyroscopic spin that sweeps about 7 inches and drops 2 inches on average. Late breaker. Locates well and can throw it for strikes. Ahead of the change and has a chance to be a put away pitch. Grade: 60

Changeup: Shows some feel. Currently fringe-average. Trackman data shows 88.0 average velocity and 2100+ spin rate. Looks like FB out of hand; good complement. Solid depth. Does not throw it often but could be average in time. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Significant improvement since amateur days. FB often misses high, attributable to an inconsistent release point. Mostly around the zone with all of his pitches. Control ahead of command. Control: 50 | Command: 40

Overall: Started for Greenville after being drafted in 2019. Did not throw more than six innings in any game. Among the best ground-ball rates for Reds prospects. Flashes three average or better pitches. Backend profile, but stuff may play up in relief. Aggressive mentality would translate well. Has some work to do with his command and change-up to take the next step and project as a rotation member in the big leagues. Underlying spin rates point to untapped potential.

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: B/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 4
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Well built, quick-twitch athlete. Listed at 6'. Noticeably more filled out as a pro. Strong forearms and thighs. Plays with moxie.

Hit: Switch-hitter with quick hands and plus bat speed from both sides. Mirror image, level swing. More of a contact hitter with gap power. Utilizes a leg kick as he loads, and his swing is fluid throughout. No hitch. Looks more comfortable and makes better contact from the right side in BP; no discernible difference in- game. Tracks the ball and has a solid understanding of the zone. Takes big, long cuts but adjusts well while working the count. Regularly barrels the ball from both sides. Grade: 50

Power: Swing not geared for power but has the natural strength and bat speed to hit the ball out of the park. Needs to better utilize his hips and lower body. Strong forearms and thighs give him more power projection than he has so far shown. Grade: 45

Field: Played SS and 2B in his first year in the pros. Tools are more suited for 2B. Plays with some bounce which allows for good reaction times. Moves well laterally. Solid range. Charges and gets low on the ball. Good at getting the ball out of the glove and to 2B. Has good footwork, particularly when making the turn at 2B. Grade: 55

Arm: Does well adjusting the angle of his throws to the situation. Mostly sidearm from 2B. Good transfer from the glove allows him to get the ball out quick. Overall an average arm that profiles better at 2B. Grade: 50

Run: Quick out of the box. Plus times down the line and in the 60. Hustles and moves faster than it looks. Smart runner. May slow in the future. Grade: 60

Overall: Near average across the board. His understanding of the strike zone and his bat speed should allow him to hit for average. Will need to work to reach his power potential. Should stick at 2B and could slide to SS in a pinch given his experience with the position. Physically looks like a big leaguer, but the bat will need to play to get there.

Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Justin Lada

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 2
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Tall and physical build with long levers. Muscular upper body and arms with broad shoulders. Already a physically impressive, maybe maxed out body as a prep draft pick. May get a little bigger. How much is added to the frame may have to be monitored to how it affects his ability to run and play in the field.

Hit: Even stance with slight back leg bend. Barrel over shoulder. Leg kick pre- load for timing mechanism with moderate weight transfer. Uses leg kick to drive power to his back leg and lower half. Good hip/hand separation. Still hands during weight transfer and works under the ball with the barrel. Attacks the ball out front. Will pull head down from pitch early. Uses hips and upper half well to match swing plane to pitch. Has above average bat speed needed to make up for long swing. Power over hit oriented bat and approach. Grade: 30

Power: Extension and bat speed yield loud and impressive double-plus raw. Power is heavy to the pull-side; power to the opposite field when he lets the ball travel. More than enough power to carry profile; hit tool deficiencies will have to shore up however to reach plus potential. Grade: 60

Field: Played three games at third in his brief pro exposure in 2019 and was a shortstop as an amateur. His build overall forced him to a corner in the pros. At short as an amateur he had already looked too tall but showed decent lateral quickness and inconsistent footwork. Hands showed inconsistent as well. It seems hard to believe he'll stay on the dirt long term. Looked much more natural charging balls as an outfielder than on the dirt Grade: 45

Arm: Up to 98 on the mound as an amateur. Plenty of carry on throws. Struggles with arm angles and consistency issues throwing and with accuracy. Footwork and accuracy issues need to be cleaned up to work at third base. Grade: 60

Run: Clocked at 7.09 in the 60 yard dash as an amateur and given build, wouldn't expect speed to be a stand out tool in his game. Athletic build overall but overall not going to steal many bases. Any weight added to the frame will bring this down as well as he's already 20 and basically physically maxed in many ways. Grade: 45

Overall: A chance to hit 35 home-runs annually in the majors will carry any hitter's profile. Hinds' top range of probabilities might be as a three true outcomes hitter who provides some defensive value in right field thanks to a plus arm. Valuable upside, but it will take top range of outcomes to make full impact of tools.

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 3
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Sturdy, well-proportioned frame with minimal room to add strength throughout; list height and weight appear accurate. May not be done growing, but advanced physically for his age; square shoulders with strength throughout torso and forearms; thick, strong thighs and legs. Frame reminds me of Max Muncy.

Hit: Stance slightly open with his hands above the letters. Feet begin and stay just over shoulder width apart through swing; healthy leg kick and will roll the front ankle over upon hip-turn. Generates plus bat speed by engaging legs and leveraging quiet, quick hands. Loud contact almost exclusively to the pull field. Tends to pull front shoulder off against left-handed pitching. Approach is over- aggressive at times; wants to hit. Will strikeout at a manageable rate. Overall, hit tool plays above average thanks to plus bat speed and a bat path that maximizes time in the zone. Grade: 55

Power: Flashes plus raw power in BP; over-the-fence contact almost exclusively goes to the pull field. Approach, mechanics and frame are geared for power. Shows average in-game currently but figures to play above average with additional physical gains and continued pro-instruction. Grade: 55

Field: Overall a below-average fielder; lacks quick-twitch movements sometimes necessary for a corner spot in the dirt. Glove transfers are quick and clean; footwork is technical but needs an extra crow hop at times; could be fixed with pro-instruction. Grade: 40

Arm: Fringe-average arm currently; relies on his feet to help with arm strength. Shows good throwing mechanics with accuracy. With continued development physically, arm could play average and strong enough to play anywhere in the dirt, but won't be a weapon necessarily. Grade: 50

Run: Times in the 4.30-4.33 range home-to-first; below average and figures to lose a step as he matures physically; will be fine on the basepaths but will not be a base-stealing threat or likely to take an extra base. Grade: 40

Overall: Hit tool will carry the profile, but significant risk because there is so much pressure on the hit tool to realize above average ability. Finding a defensive home will prove challenging, but may fit at second where quick twitch is less requisite while range continues to be less and less necessary thanks to the increase in shifts throughout the league. If the hit tool turns out, there is an average big-leaguer in there. More likely, it's a platoon infield profile the organization can leverage matchups with.

Evaluator: Russ Peters

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 220 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2020 Draft - Round 2
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Tall, broad shoulders, athletic looking body, muscular build, thick legs, prototypical workhorse build, team leader at Texas A&M.

Delivery & Mechanics: High 3/4 arm slot, short arm action, first-base side of the rubber, big leg kick, good balance, medium length stride, creates downhill plane and slight deception with size, low effort and clean delivery.

Fastball: 92-94 mph, tops out at 96 mph, inconsistent depending on the day. At its best with arm-side run and two plane movement; pounds the bottom of the zone. At its worst flat and straight; left up in the zone for hitters to feast on. Overall an average offering. Grade: 50

Curveball: Swing and miss pitch that sits 80-81 mph, featuring 11/5 shape with depth and power. Shows great feel and fairly consistent; sweeps across the plate. Potential to be an above-average pitch. Grade: 55

Slider: Occasional nasty offering at 83-86 mph with late bite; other times flat and left hanging. Inconsistent but potentially average with further pro instruction. Grade: 50

Changeup: Possibly Roa's best current secondary, the offering fades and sinks at 81-84 mph. Great feel; consistent pitch that leaves hitters off balance. Features optimal 10-11 mph separation from the fastball; elicits swing and miss. Overall a solid above-average pitch. Grade: 55

Control and Command: Control far exceeds command at this point. Definitely a strike-thrower that does not walk a lot of hitters but leaves pitches in undesirable places; resulting in loud contact. Susceptible to the long ball; makes up for lack of command with strikeouts. Well below-average currently, Roa's command should reach fringe-average at maturation. Control: 55 | Command: 45

Overall: Roa was recently drafted in the 2nd round out of Texas A&M and signed for the full slot amount: $1.5M. His pitching line from his COVID-19 shortened junior year sums up both his strengths and weaknesses well: 20 innings, 35 strikeouts, 8 walks, 4 home-runs, .230 opponents' batting average and15.8 K/9. He has the size, frame, stuff and composure needed to become a middle of the rotation big league starting pitcher. He boasts four potential average or better pitches but must improve overall consistency especially within his secondaries. He has never taken on a starter's workload for an entire season and hangs additional reliever risk. Overall a possible backend SP or back of the bullpen piece.

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 188 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2018 Draft - Round 4
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Average build; athletic and lean but surprisingly strong; Quick twitch athlete; broad shoulders that slope; solid core and strong lower half. Limited room for projection.

Hit: Square stance, feet shoulder width apart; hands at the letters; upright posture; medium base. Mild load with leg kick timing mechanism. Average bat speed; linear bat path. Passive, contact oriented approach; slap and dash type. Sprays the ball from pole to pole; power predominately pull side. Handles pitches up in the zone well; susceptible to above-average or better secondaries. On-base ability pads the grade a tick. Hit tool will ultimately determine big league role. Grade: 40

Power: Shows below-average raw in BP; plays well below-average in game due to hit tool deficiencies. All fields approach; power predominately pull side. Has decent bat speed; mostly line drives - bat path lacks significant loft; extra-bases predominately a result of speed and hustle. Limited over-the-fence pop, likely from mistakes in the zone. Grade: 30

Field: Plus defender. Situationally aware. Takes charge and command of the outfield. Covers impressive ground. Great reads off the bat and routes to the ball. Tracks well to both sides; charges in well on under-hit balls; fetches well struck balls hit over his head effortlessly. Athleticism and plus speed help him mitigate rare mistakes. Not afraid to sacrifice his body for a diving catch. Grade: 60

Arm: Plus arm, occasional weapon in the field; plays at all three OF spots. Impressive throws with optimal carry; strong accurate strikes. Grade: 60

Run: Swift out of the box; reaches top speed quickly and glides around the bases. 4.11 to 4.15 clocks regularly; 4.09 on a jailbreak bunt. Aggressive, but smart and instinctual runner: will go first to third and swipe extra hustle bags. Speed will pad extra-base hits. Always hustles; doesn't take plays off. Impactful asset on the bases: consistent SB threat that often rattles pitchers. Impressive closing speeds in CF; speed helps him mitigate rare defensive mistakes. Grade: 60

Overall: Impact level, plus defensive and speed are the calling cards; development of the bat will ultimately influence his role. Potential second-division regular upside if the bat exceeds my modest projection. More likely outcome is a solid platoon player or defensive replacement type that burns up the basepaths.

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 192 lbs
Hits/Throws: B/R
Acquired: 2018 Draft - Round 2
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Tall. Medium frame; athletic build. Square shoulders that slope. Noticeable strength in upper body and core. High waist, long levers. Moderate room for projection and added strength throughout. A former two-way player with good athleticism.

Delivery & Mechanics: Standard 3/4 arm slot with moderate effort. Works over the middle of the first-base side of the rubber. Waist-high leg kick; then begins to separate hands before plant leg gets out to lead. Short strider; moderate arm swing; uses lower half well. Finishes arm swing with the ball up behind his head which pads deception. Clean well repeated mechanics; maintains a rather consistent release point.

Fastball: Long track record of sitting upper-90s; but ran 91-93 in 2019 occasionally scraping 95. Not a ton of movement or spin; modest tailing action. If he can improve his rather short stride or bring his velocity back up consistently it can be even more competitive pitch. Command and deception pad the quality of the offering's modest fringe-average velocity. Grade: 50

Curveball: 74-77; 12/6 breaker with tight rotation and sharp late break at its best. Thrown for called strikes and swing and miss out of the zone. Enough bite and swing and miss potential to play solid average at the big league level. Grade: 50

Slider: Lacks consistency. Sits 83-86. Shows horizontal movement but lacks consistent vertical drop. Difficult to discern if it was a slider or a cutter. Needs more consistent shape. Strictly a chase pitch. Grade: 45

Changeup: Sits 82-84 lacking ideal separation from FB. Has feel; maintains arm speed; thrown with conviction. Shows tumble and fade. Tough against LHB. Not afraid to throw it to right-handers; routinely double and even triple-up on it at times. Grade: 55

Control and Command: Doesn't miss his spots by much when he does. He's pretty good about not missing in the zone for the most part, which right now is good for him to live on the black with his fastball at the velocity it showed in 2019. With the ability to repeat his delivery and release point thanks to his athleticism, it's reasonable to expect overall his control to be plus with above-average command considering that, and his relative lack of experience pitching compared to many 20-year-olds, so with more reps it should improve as he catches up on experience. Generally doesn't get rattled on the mound or under pressure. Control: 55 | Command: 50

Overall: Depending on what happens with his fastball, sequencing will be important for Richardson. There were times in starts where the velocity went from 92-94 to 89-91 as he went deeper. He should have two above-average to plus major league secondaries to work with and there were times where he started off hitters with curveballs and doubled, and tripled-up on changeups. His arm swing gives him some deception for the fastball if the velocity doesn't tick up. With some added strength and experience, the fastball could improve above this grade. But with a shorter stature and stride, it could end up sitting 92-94 as a starter. Good athlete with a determined work ethic and passion for his craft and game that should get the most out of his ability. Makeup is there to reach his ceiling. The changeup and curveball and command will give him plenty of chances to compete with what he has now, which puts him somewhere in the #4 starter range and a #3 if he hits his upper percentile outcome if the fastball velocity ticks up.

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 200 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Sturdy, well-proportioned build; limited projection remaining. Sloping, muscular shoulders; compact torso with long arms; high waist, ordinary lower half. Calm, collected demeanor with smooth, athletic movements. Frame reminiscent of David Wright.

Hit: Simple stance; square with feet just outside of shoulder width; weight is evenly distributed with only a slight bend at the knee; fairly upright. Hands sit high above the letters; bat nearly touches the shoulder; settles nearly parallel with the ground. High and pronounced leg kick into load but maintains balance throughout; hands and bat perk up at load. Above-average bat speed generated with quick hands through the zone and lower half engagement. Sound approach; up-the-middle and patient early in counts but will swing at the first pitch occasionally; does not force swings; shows strike zone awareness. Shows ability to manipulate the barrel; hunts fastballs especially early in counts; may over- swing at times. Expands the zone when behind in counts. Risky, but overall approach and bat speed should help the hit tool to play above-average in the future. Grade: 55

Power: Flashes above-average raw, shows fringy in-game currently. Generates lift for power with leverage from his upright stance. Home-run power is heavy to the pull field but will go to center as well; approach is not consistently conducive to power, but will occasionally sell-out. Refinement with the approach could help the power to reach average, but limited physical projection remaining may prevent home run totals from crossing the 20 mark across a full season. Grade: 45

Field: Solid, average defender; smooth movements at third with comfort going to both sides. Excellent at tracking fly balls in shallow left or in foul ground; not as twitchy as desired for the position, will occasionally get eaten up by a tough hop or hot shot. Shows average range; will make the expected plays. Athletic enough to play anywhere in the dirt; glove may play up a tick at second. Grade: 50

Arm: Above-average arm; strength is sufficient for third with carry; throws with accuracy across the diamond. Arm could play anywhere in the infield dirt; not a cannon but strong enough to prevent infield hits and make throws deep in the hole. Grade: 55

Run: At projection currently; average running ability. Not a base-stealer, but good enough to go first-to-third or advance on balls in the dirt. Home-to-first 4.30; limited remaining projection figures to allow him to maintain current abilities. Grade: 50

Overall: Those who scout stat lines may not love India's offense, but he has all the ingredients to be an above-average hitter at the next level. Coming out of Florida, the expectations were sky-high and maybe justifiably so, but so far he has yet to meet those demands. The risk with India's profile lies in that he is nearing 24 and he may never make the necessary adjustments at the upper levels to attain his offensive projection which would play the profile to more of an infield utility-type, but at face value it is easy to see why he was a top-10 draft pick. He could likely handle third at the next level, but I would personally like to see him at second base long-term where I think the glove could play above average. Realistically, the Reds appear to have an average everyday piece to add to their lineup in the near future.

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-6
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Giant lanky 6' 6" 205 pound frame; long and lean; wiry build with fringe-average strength but solid athleticism and coordination. Square shoulders; average core and lower half strength; high waist; long levers. Quiet but confident and intimidating mound presence. Not physically maxed - plenty of room to continue to fill out and get stronger.

Delivery & Mechanics: 3/4 arm slot with a borderline high effort delivery. Long arm swing with inconsistencies in tempo and release point. Tighter more fluid mechanics from the stretch. Leg kick, hand break and good arm speed yield moderate deception. Long levers create extended release; unfortunately the arm angle limits the steep downhill plane his tall frame would naturally provide with a higher slot. Holds runners well; decent pickoff move.

Fastball: 91-94 t96; predominately low-90s; bumps mid-90s sporadically; holds velocity well deep into his outings. Movement is flat, with occasional modest arm- side life at upper velocity band; has some tailing action around 91-92; heavy sink when he pounds it in the lower third of the zone. Attacks all four quads; not afraid to climb the ladder or pitch inside. Above-average velocity; average command; lack of significant movement and modest deception saps overall grade a touch. Grade: 50

Slider: Sits 84-87 with late horizontal darting action and occasional tilt. Arm-slot wanders on occasion yielding less optimal slurvy depth and slightly reduced velocity. Effective as a chase pitch out of the zone, especially against same-sided batters. Shows confidence also utilizing the offering within the zone early in the count. Sits fringy to average; will flash slightly above-average. Enough occasional hard bite and late break to believe it reaches above-average with further pro instruction. Grade: 55

Changeup: Underutilized. Sits 86-88 and can get firm, lacking optimal velocity separation at times. Thrown with conviction; has feel; solid sinking action with moderate fade at its best. Slightly above-average equalizer especially against right-handed batters. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Confident strike thrower with plus control and average command. Advanced feel for pitching; attacks all four quads; shows confidence pitching backwards; sequencing can occasionally get fastball heavy; not afraid to attack inside or up in the zone. Lives in or around the zone; misses are predominately glove side. Control: 60 | Command: 50

Overall: Lodolo features a well rounded arsenal that's anchored by an above-average slider. His size, handedness, strike throwing ability and pitchability are strong enough attributes to potentially yield an inning eating stalwart. Overall there's mid-rotation upside with a solid backend of the rotation floor. The latter of the two being the more likely outcome unless he adds velocity or significant movement to his rather pedestrian fastball. A fairly advanced and polished product, Lodolo should move through the Reds system quickly and provide impact innings, regardless of the role he's given.

Physical Description: Tall, lanky build; thin frame with tapered shoulders; slim but well-defined arms with a trim waist; long, runner's legs. Room to add muscle throughout but not likely to make significant gains; near physical projection. Frame reminds me of former MLB shortstop Alexei Ramirez.

Hit: Open stance with a wide base; stands on top of the plate with an inverted front foot; thighs are shoulder width apart; legs go much further apart starting at the knees. Hands sit near the back shoulder just above the letters; slightly coiled upper body. Does not generate a ton of leverage despite a tall frame; bat speed is average but the stroke is quick to the zone. High leg kick early in counts but will shorten to small stride or toe-tap when behind. The approach is contact-oriented; short, compact swing through the ball. Wants to hit; will not force swings, but not passive on pitches in the zone either; pulls hands in nicely for pitches on the inner third; sees lefties especially well. Shows ability to lay off good spin away but will occasionally get frozen on breaking pitches in the zone. Overall, an average hit tool with limited projection remaining unless he overhauls approach. Grade: 50

Power: Swing is contact over loft; extra-base hits are mostly line drives down the lines and in the gaps. Home-runs come mostly on pitches on the outer third that allow him to extend his hands. Flashes average raw and the frame figures to help home run totals enter double digits as it fills out, but power is below average currently. Grade: 40

Field: Smooth fielder; above average athlete with capable range; comfortable with charging choppers and bare handing slow rollers. Does not move his feet enough to square up ground balls at times and will boot a ball occasionally; could be fixed with continued pro instruction. Moved around the field in the minors but profiles best at shortstop. Grade: 55

Arm: Plus arm strength; quick transfers from the glove allow a fast release but still gets something on his throws with minimal effort. Accuracy is less than ideal at times, but should have no issue making any throw necessary of a shortstop. Strong arm. Grade: 60

Run: Gliding acceleration on the bases with long strides; shows instincts on the bases, but not a base-stealing threat. Home to first times show above average times in the minors but will likely play average long-term. Grade: 50

Overall: Formerly known as Jose Garcia, Barrero was brought up to the major leagues at 22-years-old without any career games above High-A, speaking to the organization's belief and trust in his abilities. The frame is impressive for an infielder; couple that with his athleticism and he has the ingredients of an exciting young player. Despite the lack of a carrying tool, the sum of the parts for Barrero help mitigate his risk as a prospect and will help to keep him in the lineup on a daily basis.

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 225 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2015 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: On 40-man

Physical Description: Tall and built. A big man. Strong upper body. Muscular back and shoulders. Impressive forearms. Still has some room to grow. Ideal catcher's frame. Hard worker and a student of the game.

Hit: Slightly crouched stance. Little pre-pitch movement. Medium leg kick; has been toned down since reaching pro ball. Explosive hands that generate plus bat speed. Short, efficient swing geared toward line drive contact. Good eye. Shows an ability to check swing to lay off pitches. Good barrel control. High contact rate thanks to strong bat-to-ball skills. Grade: 50

Power: Ball explodes off the bat in BP. Possesses loud, plus raw power, but it has not translated to consistent in-game power. Gap power attributable to his focus toward line drive contact. Average exit velocity in the top half of the position in 2020 with a small sample; max exit velocity in the lower half. Capable of hitting the ball out of the farthest part of the park, as demonstrated by his first MLB at- bat, but power does not project beyond average without a more concentrated effort to drive the ball. Has an opportunity to better utilize his lower half in generating additional leverage. Has the underlying ability to see growth in the tool. Grade: 50

Field: Fringe-average receiver but has made strides in the past several seasons. Shows an understanding of framing but remains below average. Gets low to block pitches. Moves well behind the plate displaying particularly good footwork. Alert; high IQ behind the dish. Grade: 45

Arm: Strong arm with good carry. Average transferor. Pop times between 1.90 and 1.95 in limited looks this season. Needs to be more consistent getting the ball on target to maximize his natural arm strength. Grade: 60

Run: Showed above-average times as an amateur but a present below-average runner. Times down the line from the right side consistently in the 4.35-4.40 range. Moves well for a big man but not a base stealing threat. Grade: 40

Overall: Looks the part of a big-league catcher. Possesses an ideal frame and the tools necessary to be an above-average backstop, especially if he makes the adjustments necessary to generate more power. Has all-star talent if he continues to improve. Among the best prospects at the position.

Evaluator: Justin Lada

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: If you wanted to physically build a starter in the lab, Greene is the prototype. Impressive athleticism. Large frame. Wiry strength. Broad shoulders. Strong upper body, core and lower half. Mostly filled out ML body with a little room left to add strength. Tommy John Surgery: 04/2019.

Delivery & Mechanics: Clean, simple delivery. Standard 3/4 arm slot. Easy effort; impressive arm speed. Curiously works from the middle of the rubber. Chest high leg kick, gets into back leg and lower half well. Gets good hip and torso to shoulder separation. Has slowed down the start of his wind up over the last year from a very quick leg kick and break to a more moderate leg kick and better paced wind up. His long arm swing which led to inconsistent release point at times is now a much shorter, compact motion. Better lead leg action in 2020 bullpens compared to 2018. Very good extension with long back foot toe drag as he squares his body to home and brings the arm behind.

Fastball: Explosive pitch with elite velocity. Sits 96-99 consistently and can hit 102.Modest arm-side run, predominantly flat at upper velo. Downward plane low in the zone thanks to his delivery and slot. Extension pads overall quality of the offering. Overpowers in the zone; moderate swing and miss. Fills the zone with strikes. Misses are up in the zone and glove side. Grade: 70

Curveball: Low usage fourth offering. Inconsistent shape. 75-79 mph with 11/5 shape when he snaps it off correctly; mostly a show-me offering. Can throw it for strikes, but not a competitive pitch other than to vary looks. Average control; below-average command. Grade: 45

Slider: Best secondary offering. Sits 84-87 with tight two-plane break. Shows good vertical drop and late horizontal tilt. Thrown for strikes and utilized in and out of the zone, has impressive confidence back-dooring it on LHB. Grade: 55

Changeup: Sits 85-88 with optimal velocity separation from FB. Has feel; maintains arm speed. Features downward action and great fade. Tough swing and miss pitch against LHB. Sits average; flashes above-average. Grade: 55

Control and Command: Aggressive strike thrower; fills the zone with quality strikes. Command of secondary offerings lag behind FB. Moves the ball around the zone well. Deep arsenal and moderate pitchability avoid predictable sequencing. Shortened arm swing, clean, low effort delivery and athleticism should yield future above-average command. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: With the physical build, low effort delivery, and three potentially above-average or better pitches, Greene has the ingredients and projection of a top of the rotation starter, with ace potential. The more realistic future role is an impact mid-rotation SP. He's already had Tommy John, but the shortening of his arm swing and better pace of his delivery should help improve his command long term. The road back from injury won't be easy, but always bet on the athlete with high-end velocity and two above-average secondaries - especially with the kind of work ethic and character that Greene exhibits.

Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Mike Kinsela

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2020 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Athletic build with lean, athletic strength at present. Broadness of shoulders and general body type say there's 10-15 pounds of physical projection remaining-is more filled out than average "projection prep".

Hit: Hendrick was known more as a pull-happy power bat in his underclass days and into his summer on the circuit, but noticeable improvements in his lower half and loading mechanism allowed for better barrel control and increases in potential hit tool projection. 70 bat speed with lag in zone, lower half is under control, gains ground out of wider stance while holding coil in rear leg, barrel takes direct path and stays in zone. Formerly had problems with drift and posture, both have vastly improved. Something of a free swinger but knows the zone, his approach matured leading up to the draft as well. An average hit tool future is possible here, but the realistic outcome is a fringe hit tool. Grade: 50

Power: Plus raw power out of high school, capable of driving the ball out of the ballpark to all fields, with best juice working to pull-side still. Has shown impressive exit velocities consistently, plus-plus bat speed with violent intent, has registered triple digit exit velos the opposite way and back through the middle. Improved balance and overall body control during swing as detailed above lead to better in-game presentation of power. The raw power upside here is 70, could be even more than that but 70 is a realistic raw power projection. With the projection of a fringe average hit tool and solid-average approach, plus game power is certainly the projection here. Grade: 60

Field: Will likely profile best in right field, presently has the athleticism and foot speed to be tried in center field. Best run times down the line in solid-average range, has clocked in above-average 60 yard dash times and is better once underway, still most likely to have average range with above-average instincts in an outfield corner, with either right field or left field being potential landing spots. 1st base is a possibility depending on how big he gets. Should be neither a detriment nor an asset of a defender, but should play good enough corner OF defense to maximize offensive profile value. Grade: 50

Arm: Raw arm strength is above-average, velocity out of hand on outfield throws has been measured into the low-90's. Can throw, clean arm stroke with evidence of a former life as a two-way player in his younger years, cleaning up consistency of hip direction, stride length and timing, and overall feel in the outfield should lead to improvements in both arm strength and accuracy, as well as release time. Chance for this tool to be an asset for him. Grade: 55

Run: An average runner right now with rare flashes of 55 times down the line, Hendrick is likely to slow down into the fringe to average range in terms of quantifiable stopwatch times down the line. Aforementioned baseball instincts and better-when-underway speed give him the ability to be a good baserunner, though he's unlikely to be a double-digit stolen base threat. Grade: 50

Overall: The draw here is obviously the left-handed bat, and Hendrick was given $4 million dollars to sign out of a Mississippi State commitment on the hope that an impact offensive player exists long term here. The power stands out and the developmental trajectory of the hit tool and approach stand out as well over the past year-plus, and he's a good enough athlete and defender to potentially elicit value defensively in an outfield corner as well as on the basepaths. A left- handed version of Clint Frazier is not a bad comparison here, with a touch more upside in Hendrick's case.

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-6
Weight: 231 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 7
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Fully developed collegiate arm that has the frame to start and eat innings. Good, strong lower half. Any physical projection in the body would lean in the negative direction.

Delivery & Mechanics: His windup is a bit of a flashback to simpler times, with the windmill type arm swing that you see in the black and white highlights. He begins with a long stride back and the delivery really slows down, but then its a quick leg kick. The arm action is long, but still quick. It's a straight over the top release, which allows him to stay on top of the baseball and land over his front leg. The long stride and mechanics generate good extension. He struggled throwing strikes in college and as a result didn't see the mound that much. Cardinals took a shot on the untapped potential.

Fastball: Sits 91-94; likely nudges a bit higher in short stints. Heavy downward plane due to six-foot-six frame and aforementioned extreme over the top arm slot. Works more north-to-south rather than east-to-west and provides hitters with a unique look. As a reliever only I'd bump this up a half grade. Grade: 40

Curveball: Lives in the low-80s. It's a high spin offering that plays very well off of the fastball and with the over the top arm slot. Curveball has good depth. Will throw it for strikes. 12-to-6 break. Tunnels well off of the fastball up in the zone. Grade: 50

Changeup: Not a strong pitch, likely gets shelved if he goes to the bullpen. Slows the arm down considerably and the tradeoff is modest arm side run. Grade: 30

Control and Command: Command and control have both improved since he left UCLA. Those very same struggles limited his appearances in college, but perhaps the organization has found something as he's been able to throw strikes more consistently despite the high effort motion. Control: 50 | Command: 40

Overall: Ralston enters the stable of college arms that the organization hoards. His pitch data isn't as promising as some of the other recent college arms, so I have him ranked behind them. He's likely a two-pitch reliever that could move quickly when baseball resumes. Hopefully a switch to the bullpen unlocks a tick or three on the fastball. I see why the organization took a flyer here, as he has the frame, big breaking ball and high release point that they covet.

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 Draft - Round 1
RuleV: 2020

Physical Description: He looks smaller than the listed weight. Plenty of room for growth on his lanky frame. Long limbs, especially his legs..

Hit: Slightly open stance. Slight bend in the knees. Hands stay up by his head pre pitch. Modest toe tap. A dead red hitter at this point. Tends to struggle with breaking balls, whether that be whiffs or soft contact. Swing is pretty compact, but he's prone to reaching out of the zone. Fairly patient approach that can work a count. Power won't ever be his calling card, so if he is to make an offensive impact it will have to be through the hit tool Grade: 30

Power: There isn't much power to be had. He is getting stronger, but any power he has will come from extra base hits that stay in the park. With his speed, a ball in the gap can be interesting. Grade: 20

Field: Very smooth with the leather. Between instincts and speed he's got the 'wow' factor defensively. Inflated error numbers are a reflection, in part, of his range because he can get to many balls that most players cannot. There is also a tendency to lose focus sometimes, but all things considered he is a plus defender. Grade: 60

Arm: His arm is more than capable of making any throw from the six. Beyond the strength his arm is accurate too, which really helps him make fantastic plays defensively. Grade: 60

Run: Easily an above average. Isn't afraid to hustle for an extra base. Defensively he uses the speed well, increasing his range. The tool might push plus if he proves he's able to steal more successfully. Grade: 55

Overall: His game right now is built around running and defense. He can be a joy to watch with the glove because he can make plays that would be though impossible. That comes down to instincts. The biggest question mark will be what happens with him offensively. He's improved at the plate each season, but there's a lot left to be desired. Adjusting to offspeed pitches will go a long way in improving his offensive stock.

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 234 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 6
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Displays outward leadership qualities, the type of catcher that's very involved in the game. Pages has a thicker frame, a high energy fireball. He's fluent in english as well as spanish which is obviously huge in today's game, especially for a catcher. He's going to require serious body maintenance, and you don't see many soft bodied catches nowadays.

Hit: Starts with hands high, with circular gyrations at about the ear level. He's a very pull heavy hitter, but he will pepper the outfield grass just beyond shortstop with line drives. Will be prone to shifts, and since he doesn't run well, it's fair to assume low batting averages. Grade: 45

Power: Over the fence power is limited to the pull-side, but his swing doesn't produce natural loft. The high amount of line drives is a great result, but not being able to elevate limits the power ceiling. Does have some power to the right centerfield gap, just need to see it more often. Grade: 40

Field: Pitchers love throwing to him. Handles a staff extremely well. Doesn't move that great laterally, but is a strong receiver. Good, quiet target that really excels framing the low pitch. Grade: 55

Arm: Gunned down 68% of potential thieves so far in his pro career, which is an exceptional number considering how many more plus runners exist in the lower levels of the minor leagues. Quick feet and hands. Strong transfers and plus ability to get out of the crouch can slow a running game to a halt. Grade: 55

Run: Well below-average runner, not a threat to take the extra bag. Grade: 300

Overall: He's a defense first backup catcher for me because I'm not confident in the power emerging. The frame will also require a sizable amount of effort to maintain and improve. He handles the staff well enough to possibly fill the Julio Rodriguez role sooner or later, and he's got enough chops to be a future coach when his playing career is over.

Age: 27 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 235 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Draft - Round 30
RuleV: 2020

Physical Description: Older arm that was a senior sign and has pitched his way onto prospect lists. Pitched as a swing man that's earned rotation spots based on performance. He has a good solid frame that's well developed. He holds runners very well and will vary his timing pitch by pitch with runners on base. Moves very well on the mound, is flexible and fields position very well.

Delivery & Mechanics: Low 3/4 arm slot despite frame. Ball looks like it's coming from his ear during the delivery. Hides the ball well enough to get some funky swings despite below average velocity.

Fastball: Lives at 86-90, but gets good ride up in the zone. Pitch plays up due to deception, as he hides the ball behind his body during the delivery. Relies more on weak contact and living on the black, or just off the plate. Despite the low velocity everything is set up off the fastball. Might have the best fastball command of anyone on this list. Plus command and a good amount of natural glove side run/sink Grade: 40

Curveball: The newest pitch in his arsenal. Above-average depth and plus command. Works up in the zone off the fastball. Has different versions of the pitch, much slower version has tremendous depth. If he has a swing and miss pitch, this is as close as it gets. Grade: 50

Slider: More horizontal break than the curveball, obviously, and he will pair it off the fastball. He will throw a fastball away from a right-hander, and then follow up with a slider that looks just like the fastball they just saw before it breaks off the plate. On an off night when he lacks fastball command he can't really use the slider either. Grade: 45

Splitter: Plays well off the fastball. Will throw it for strikes at the bottom of the zone as opposed to traditional splitters that drop below the zone as a chase pitch. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Plus command of the fastball and curveball, average command of his other offerings. The carrying tool here. Four quadrant type command. It can be fun to watch him pitch. Control: 60 | Command: 50

Overall: Pitched well in the lower levels of the minors due to his elite command and feel. Pairs his pitches well and will sequence efficiently. Became more hittable in the upper minors and was homer prone in Double-A. A troubling trend, but fatigue looked to play a part in that. Interested to see what FaGalde looks like to start the season, and I think he can be a middle reliever long term.

Hit: Open stance. Slight bend in the knees. Hands are shoulder height.Toe tap on the load. Sprays the ball to all fields and goes with the pitch well. Covers the strike zone well. Patient hitter with good knowledge of the zone, which does translate to walks, but also makes him strikeout prone if he is too careful. His patience to get him in hitters counts helps the hit tool play up. Grade: 45

Power: Quick hands generate power. Likely to be more of a gap threat than anything else. He might run into some over the fence, but his swing is built more for line drives. Grade: 30

Field: His glove can play multiple positions.Works hard and doesn't hesitate to give up his body to make a play. Good instincts help him to cover ground. Grade: 45

Arm: While the glove can play anywhere, Robertson's arm is not as strong. It likely excels at second more than anywhere, but can be usable at short because of the accuracy. Grade: 45

Run: His speed helps his game on both sides of the ball. Defensively, his speed will show through a little more. Smart baseball player, and that helps the speed play up. Grade: 50

Overall: Robertson's tools play up because he is a smart player who works hard. He can become a nice utility infielder for a big league club because of his defensive versatility and ability to get into hitters counts. Physical Description: Round, long arms and legs. Major concerns with the body, but admittedly haven't seen much on him since the move to the Cardinals.

Hit: Strong ability to square up the baseball with a simple cut. Picks the foot up and sets it down before engaging. Small hitch in the swing, but makes up for it with good control of the barrel and keeps the bat through the zone for a long time. Was a switch-hitter, but has abandoned hitting from the left-side. Extremely pull heavy. Grade: 45

Power: Swing generates easy loft. Superb trunk rotation and quick hips; can easily see him out performing this power grade down the line. This is a developing skill that will likely be the carrying tool. Bat speed is only average right now, but that will improve as he gets stronger and in better physical shape. His power will come from the lower half though, and his hips fire very well. Grade: 50

Field: After signing with the Rays he moved behind the plate. All previous footage I saw was him playing first base. He doesn't move very well in the field, lacking quickness and overall mobility. Grade: 30

Arm: Lacks carry but appears accurate. Don't see it working very well behind the plate, but it's been two years and a lot can happen during that time. Grade: 30

Run: Well below-average runner. Lacks first step quickness. Grade: 30
