Welcome to the first edition of an extra PLIVE+ post outside our weekly update. In this one I've found three hitters through PLIVE+ who have interesting projections and have very low ownership on Fantrax. For those that are unaware, the PLIVE+ peak projections, built by Jordan Rosenblum, are in our 60 Tier subscription along with our prospect lists. You can find an explainer of PLIVE+ here.
POWER: Christopher Familia, OF, NYY, A+
Peak Projection: .249/.307/.460, 107 wRC+, 29 HR, 4 SB
Familia pops because he's got the 8th highest HR projection of all prospects, as well as the 106th best hitting by PLIVE+. Last year he hit 22 HR between A and A+ in just 294 PA as a 23 yr old. He was injured in spring and came back late May, rehabbing in CPX and A ball hitting 3 HR in 46 PA. He's finally back at high-A where he's likely to continue his success. Typically with these high HR old-for-level guys you see a huge K%, but that's not the case with Familia who has had a 20% K rate between 345 PA in '23-'24. Obviously Familia is a deep league play (400+), but he's likely to see AA this year and if he can put together a solid line there, you'll be in line to profit.
SPEED: Steward Berroa, OF, TOR, AAA
Peak Projection: .218/.295/.330, 74 wRC+, 10 HR, 42 SB
At first glance you might be tempted to skip over this one as a surface level speed only guy who really can't hit, especially when you hear he's 25 yrs old. However, something's clicked for him this year at AAA and he's already hit 6 HR in 182 PA to go along with his 27 SB. He's got a 115 wRC+ and plays CF where the Blue Jays are currently rolling out the struggling Kevin Kiermaier. Berroa has a legitimate chance at earning some MLB playing time this year. Circling back on those SB, that projection of 42 bags is 2nd among prospects sandwiched between Chandler Simpson and Victor Scott II. This is one of those times where potential short-term usefulness trumps higher ranked prospects as he could bring a return similar to what Bubba Thompson did for fantasy owners in 2022 when he stole 18 bags in 181 PA. [yes I remember this because I lost out on a championship by 0.5 pts to his owner]
POWER/SPEED: Jhonny Severino, SS/3B, PIT, CPX
Peak Projection: .241/.302/.447, 103 wRC+, 27 HR, 16 SB
The 19 yr old at is showing the loud fantasy numbers that everyone loves with 6 HR and 9 SB in 106 PA this year. He received a $1.23 million bonus in 2022 but was moved from MIL to PIT last year for Carlos Santana. Severino is the 5th highest ranked player at the CPX level by PLIVE+. Given he's on his 2nd go-around, albeit short stints, it's very possible he gets the call to A-ball sooner than later. This is the perfect churn spot add and he's just 1% owned on Fantrax.
