Spring Breakout is one of the best things Major League Baseball has created and its second rendition begins on Thursday March 13th. Each team puts together a team of top prospects to compete in one nine-inning game against another team of top prospects (two teams, the Nationals and Cubs will play twice since the leagues are uneven). It’s possible that this could grow into a tournament type event which, for us, at Prospects Live and you (our loyal readers) is incredibly exciting.
Greg (@greghoogkamp) has built a scoring system to rank the rosters based on our latest top 700 prospects list (7 points for 1-50 ranking, 6 for 51-100, 5 for 101-200, 4 for 201-300, 3 for 301-400, 2 for 401-500 and 1 for 501-700). Keep in mind that there are players left off these rosters due to injury, competing for opening day spots or other reasons so these rankings aren’t an exact representation of the farm systems. However, it does give us a good idea of what teams have depth in their systems and what teams will be producing fantasy talent in the coming seasons.
Drew (@drewisokay) has jumped in to recommend some players he is excited to watch in the NL while Greg suggests some players in the AL. We hope you enjoy this summary.
1. Chicago White Sox
Breakout Game Day/Opponent/Time: March 16th vs Rockies 5:05 pm EST
101-200: Jairo Iriarte, Grant Taylor, Sean Burke, Chase Meidroth
201-300: Jeral Perez, Samuel Zavala
301-400: Mason Adams, Jacob Gonzalez
401-500: Nick Nastrini, Caleb Bonemer, George Wolkow
501-700: Juan Carela, Aldrin Batista, William Bergolla, Wilfred Veras
Player we are excited to see: Noah Schultz might be the most talented pitcher in the minor leagues; he comes at hitters with his 6 ‘10 frame from the left side making for an extremely uncomfortable (and unfair) at bat.
2. Milwaukee Brewers
Breakout Game Day/Opponent/Time: March 16th vs Reds 7:40 pm EST
Fantasy Score: 77
1-100: Jesus Made, Jacob Misiorowski, Cooper Pratt, Brock Wilken
101-200: Eric Bitonti, Luke Adams, Yophery Rodriguez
201-300: Bryce Meccage, Luis Pena, Braylon Payne, Luis Lara
Player we are excited to see: I’m itching like Tyrone Biggums to see Jesus Made in competition against other Top 100 types; how good is this kid?!?! Let’s see it.
3. Tampa Bay Rays
Breakout Game Day/Opponent/Time: March 13th vs Red Sox 7:05 EST
Fantasy Score: 75
1-100: Carson Williams, Xavier Isaac, Brayden Taylor, Tre’ Morgan
101-200: Santiago Suarez, Gary Gill Hill, Aidan Smith, Chandler Simpson, Brailer Guerrero
201-300: Mac Horvath, Colton Ledbetter
301-400: Kyle Harrison, Jackson Baumiester, Cooper Kinney
401-500: None
501-700: Emilien Pitre, Will Simpson
Player we are excited to see: Chandler Simpson is as fast as any player in baseball and he can manufacture a run all by himself with his game-changing speed
4. Cincinnati Reds
Breakout Game Day/Opponent/Time: March 16th vs Brewers 7:40 pm EST
501-700: Zach Maxwell, Leo Balcazar, Peyton Stovall
Player we are excited to see: How will Chase Burns’ stuff play against the best of the best? We’ve seen him dominate the NCAA and look very good this spring…
5. Miami Marlins
Breakout Game Day/Opponent/Time: March 14th vs Cardinals 12:10 pm EST
Fantasy Score: 67
1-100: Thomas White, Robby Snelling, Agustin Ramirez, Deyvison De Los Santos
101-200: Noble Meyer, Echedry Vargas
201-300: Adam Mazur, Starlyn Caba, Jared Serna
301-400: Joe Mack, Andrew Salas, Carter Johnson, Javier Sanoja, Max Acosta, Graham Pauley
401-500: Keyner Benitez
501-700: Dax Fulton
Player we are excited to see: The twin-headed power merchant monster Agustin Ramirez and Deyvison De Los Santos are probably the direction the Marlins need to be facing in 2025, but where will Eric Wagaman, Nick Fortes, and Liam Hicks play?! I give it a few months before two very-close proximity prospects are in the show for good.
